I'm from California but I live in Alabama now and the spoken part doesn't sound to me like Tom's Welsh accent. But let me you that it is a pretty convincing southern accent especially at the beginning of the song. I've heard so many terrible fake southern accents in movies and for some reason the closest to the real accent seems to done by British actors. Tom is just awesome. When he sang Long Time Gone with CSNY blows me away every time I see it.

I guess his Vegas years took him off my radar. Now i see it was such a loss to me as I now binge watch and catch up on what I missed.

When he got rich and famous he demanded his father stop working in the pit as Tom Jones knew it would it eventually kill him. His father refused reasoning that while he still had a mortgage to pay he had to keep working and he wouldn't take money off of his son. So Tom Jones went and paid his dad's mortgage off to stop him from having to work downt pit.
