You should not be trading cars (of any brand) every 2-4 years because it wastes so much money. I don't know who convinced people to do this, I'm sure it made THEM a lot of money but it not good for ordinary men and women.

I bought a 2nd hand Tesla that already had a battery replacement so I could ease into the new era of EV’s and learn the ins and outs and get on the environmental bandwagon of responsible earth stewardship… FAIL!! The 2nd battery died within 2 years (just after the warranty expired!) and then the motor died, too, after I had sunk more money into upgrading the onboard computer, suspension (Tesla wouldn’t safety-check otherwise), 12v battery, new door mechanisms, as well as tires, etc… So I will also never buy another Tesla! Their trade-in offers were insulting and they would accept no blame for the terrible build quality of their vehicle… Did I just get a lemon? Perhaps, but still..

Prices on EV will continue to fall- Tesla stock skyrocketed because they reduced the cost to manufacture by 20% in 2024. The cost will be even lower in 2025...2026. What appeared to be an anti Tesla turned out to be a solid endorsement of the products from a keep them long term perspective. We also have 2 Tesla's at home. A 2024 refreshed Model 3 DM and a 2018 Model X 100D. We had both leased Tesla's in 2021 (M3, MY) and so were not impacted by price changes or value depreciation for those cars. We purchased my wifes 2024 Model 3 and I bought the Model X from Tesla's used vehicle site. My wifes M3 refresh DM was actually less expensive that her 2021 single motor.
The amazing deal was the Model X. It is a 6 seat X with 49K miles in great condition for $39,900. It had EAP which I upgraded to FSD for an additional $2K. That's $43K all in for a vehicle that sold new in 2018 or over $150K. It carries a 1 year full warranty and another two years for the battery and drive motors. I love driving the X and it is by far the best deal I've ever had on a vehicle in my long life of vehicle ownership. I feel for the individual who paid what with all the options was actually closer to $160K (6 seat, upgraded wheels, EAP) and lost over $100K in the trade-in to Tesla. Most non-Tesla people who have been in my X have thought it was a new car. It is certainly a lot of car for what I paid and like you, my battery is in that 93% capacity or 275 miles of range.

I sold my model Y last year and I’m selling my model X next week. I used to be all-in. Two Teslas in the garage, power wall, solar, Tesla stock portfolio. The main reason I won’t be buying another Tesla… They have become uncool. I’m actually embarrassed to drive it. More importantly, they haven’t launched anything interesting in several years. I love my 22 model X, but they could have done a lot more to differentiate it from the 2017 model X that it replaced. It was a lazy refresh and it’s clear that Tesla is no longer interested in their premium vehicles. If the design of the cyber truck and taxi is an indication of their next wave design approach, then I’m out for good. Car design should seduce, not repulse. The design looks silly, and the quality has taken a massive step backward.

Paid $56,300 and today its worth $28,000! What is the cost today of a new model Y? Its not the cost at purchase, it's the rapid depreciation that is the problem. No matter the price, 50% loss of value in a year and a half is not normal. Especially when we know the cars popularity. Its telling me there is very little aftermarket for used EVs perhaps due to the battery life expectations by an ignorant public. EV buyers are a more intelligent group VS the gasoline mouth breathers.

Forged carbon inserts, UP lowering springs, hubcentric spacers and I’m loving it. And I come from a garage with Ferraris and Lamborghinis and I’m absolutely loving this for my daily. Not to mention it’s probably the quickest car I have off the line. We can’t get a plaid here in Australia but I think the new model 3 performance looks way better especially with the mods I’ve done. It’s literally the perfect daily so I think you should just get one.

    Americans suffer from two syndrome:
    FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out
    GAS: Gear Acquisition Syndrome
Both of these are huge factors that drive the “need” many have to buy the latest of whatever.
I’m fortunate that I don’t have either of these (to an unmanageable degree). Sure, the new and shiny is always attractive. But I can resist.
My ultimate question is this: Is there anything I need to do that I cannot do with what I have?
My ‘21 M3 SR+ works great. It just crossed 50k miles, so no more warranty on the car (battery and power train still have many miles to go). But I’ve been on many 1,000 mile trips (including a 5,500 mile r/t to Louisville), and the car has reliably, capably, and comfortably made each of those trips! Plus it is absolutely amazing as a daily driver around town.
The s/w updates, as you mentioned, constantly refresh my car, making it feel new and up-to-date, and the tech of the Tesla world make me feel like my car is not a 2nd thought of the OEM. This is who they are and what they do. Full stop.
My feeling is that, if/when this car needs a new battery, I’m definitely going to buy a new battery instead of a new car. I’m hoping by then, Tesla would simply let me keep the old battery to use as a power wall.
But yeah I’m not really tempted to get the latest and greatest - I already have it!

Nice vid, but underwhelming... I thought this was going to be a disparaging vid, but instead it's a vid telling why you're keeping what you have. I can give you 10 reasons why I hate mine with number 1 being range, or the lack thereof! My 2019 SR+ has a whopping 15K miles on it and out of the 240 mile range it supposedly came with, I am only getting 140 actual miles, oh I can charge to 100%, but doesn't come close to showing 240, more like 200.

I have a 22 M3 RWD with 27k miles on it. Published range by Tesla 272 when new. I have the LFP batteries that are recommended to be charged to 100%. My car never charged to 272 miles at 100%. It now shows at 100% charge 254-256. I think the real world range is about 240. Of course depends on outside temperature and speed. Tesla warranty the batteries to maintain 70% of range for 8 years and 100k miles. depending on model this warranty has different parameters. If your range drops much more, you could qualify for a battery replacement.

Gosh. Your trade-in estimates are real stingers. We’ve had 2 2018 M3Ps and recently sold them. Tesla’s trade-in offers were low. One of them with 94,000 miles was offered $16,800. The other with 16,560 miles was offered $19,500. We sold them to Carvana ($18,800) and Carmax ($23,000) respectively. The two were sold to make way for the Tri Motor Cybertruck (Cyberbeast as it came to be known) I had on reservation since 44 hrs after reveal and delivered recently. The other was sold to make way for a much more practical MY AWD (Quicksilver!) where we took advantage of Q4 incentives, the Fed Tax Credit ($7,500) and the 0% interest 60mo loan. Couldn’t pass this up. Free money for 5 years!!!

One reason I won't buy a Tesla ... if I had the money for a Tesla, I'd buy a 2022-2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport. I love driving and Tesla numbs this experience. I've never cared about 0-60 speeds. Most people don't give a single care about this. Can it merge with traffic, check and move on. No trolling but let's keep in perspective we don't all want an appliance we feel will be replaced every two-four years. Give me a car which brings joy and I know I'll want to own 15 years from now (and will still have some resale value).

Here's the real list of reasons not to buy a Tesla:
      1. Everything creaks and rattles when driving. Quality is subpar
      2. The car is glued together. It doesn't fell stable like other cars
      3. It's not refined like other similarly priced cars
      4. Maintenance/repair costs are realized on the backend when battery needs replacing
      5. Interior material is cheap akin to a Kia Rio
      6. Range vs number of charging station make no since
      7. The battery can't take low outside temps or high outside temps
      8. Needs constant charging for any real world use
      9. Too many bugs in software that require frequent updates
      10. MSRP for Model S should be $30,000 not $80,000
I sold my Tesla and bought a Toyota 4Runner and bought my wife a Lexus GX. Both can withstand extreme conditions, has high quality parts, very rugged and extremely reliable. Both vehicles are built like tanks and can take extreme abuse with ease. Teslas will fall apart if treated with any abuse. Stay away from Teslas if you value refinement, durability, reliability, safety, and comfort. Just buy a Toyota or Lexus.

The dacia can have problems to start when its below -30c, i think its because the diesel doesnt flow but the batterycar is much easier to start in cold weather. And if you preheat with the app its even better
