    Such an eye-opening and instightful breakdown. Can’t believe I’ve seen the film so many times and not been consciously aware of some of these points. Always knew it was a masterpiece, but now I understand why all the more. Thank you :)

    When landing at Jurassic Park, Grant can’t find one of the straps (the male part) of his safety belt, so he grabs another strap (a female part) and ties the two straps (both female) together. He found a way.

    This was a special episode! Jurassic Park for me was the movie that changed it all. I was 11 when I saw it up on the big screen in 93. As the credits rolled at the end with that iconic Williams score I knew one thing, I wanted to be a filmmaker! I actually wrote to Spielberg following the movie, to my surprise Amblin replied to me on his behalf… I still have the letter! Thank you for this video 🎥🙏 🦖 🦕

      @The movie kingdom T.L.G they explained the filmmaking process to me articulated in a way that an 11 year old boy would understand. They also said Spielberg loves to hear from his fans thanking me for the letter. I’d love to think he read it :) 🎥

    A few years ago when Hollywood was dry from lack of ideas, Jurassic Park & the Matrix came forth to bring new life into movies. The book 'Jurassic Park' was one of the few books that I had to read in one day. For some, reading that book was too slow, while others feel it was too fast. I enjoyed that reading as if I sat down to enjoy a seven course meal with fine wine. I love how you have broken down the film. It has inspired me to finish a film I've started (and paused) many years ago. I really appreciate this video. Nice work...

    Omg this was effin genius. I just got Save the Cat and writing a movie in 21 days or whatever the title is (as I’m dabbling in writing and animating shorts) and man, this is far more entertaining and engaging than books. This is still one of my favorite films of all time and I’m glad it’s one of yours as well. Thank you for the eye opening view.

    Nice breakdown. I often find little moments in films and wonder if it was intentional or if it was coincidence. Because I personally experience more "happy accidents" than actually planning things out in a certain way haha.

    This was excellent.
    As a composer this inspired me greatly. I took a year off of making any sort of music to focusing on studying film and how pacing works to hopefully understand my craft more.
    This was one of my favorite films growing up as a kid and as I took a break I began to understand why it was through music and film.
    Thank you for this video

    You should seriously consider doing breakdowns of "Westworld" & "Futureworld", (both old & new versions), which Michael Crighton ALSO wrote! It would be interesting to see your take on the corellations between all of his stories, including what you think of as the flaws & saving graces of each aspect.

    I love this break down and even though this movie was from 30 years ago it still to this day blows me away every time. Ryan do you believe that movies today aren't following this structure or are sacrificing good story telling for spectacle and CGI?

  • @TimDownsAnimation
    @TimDownsAnimation 2 года назад

    How's this for a good structure example: Speed (1994). Perhaps most obvious 3-act structure with Act 1 being the elevator, 2 being the bus, and 3 being the subway. However, the minute marks might be a bit off, but I like how it manages to escalate the stakes or advance the story practically every minute, or at the end of every page. It's a page-turner movie. It doesn't have a whole lot of strong theming like Jurassic Park does (which isn't saying much since JP's themes are so dang well executed), but it has such a perpetual and seamless flow from beginning to end without becoming a huge mess.

    I love that you did this, it may be my naivety but I hate the paint by numbers way to think about a movie. I know it’s produced great movies but to have expected thing at every expected moment just makes the story feel less organic to me. I know it’s about keeping the story interesting and on track but do we cripple our ability to feel it if everything is so calculated? Maybe there is some middle ground. Great video!

      @Aryan Toon Hi Aryan, I couldn't care less about "plot holes" and "inaccurate science." I was making a joke in reference to the original Film Riot opening from way back in 2009 when I started watching the show, in which Ryan says "In the beginning, Adam bites the apple. In 1903, the first narrative film is made. In '93, Spielberg says FU to evolution. And in 2009, Film Riot is released to the world!"
      In conclusion, please chill out.
