Nomad is great… a few tweaks and it would be perfect… I use 3D sculpting to make references for some of my paintings, I used a brush for awhile and got nomad when it came out and cancelled my zbrush sub… being able to use zbrush on my iPad would def be a game changer… I’ll be watching for this!

Zbrush mini core should be on the iPad first. Free or under $20 so everyone wants to try out. Get the interface and basic tools right. Then offer other features at a subscription. Curious If Maxon wants to basically just keep current subscribers and feel a nearly full functional version can work on the iPad. Also hope using Nomad or Zbrush becomes a choice of trying and using different types of clay.

I just got back from the ZBrush Summit. The energy was palpable. You know I absolutely adore ZBrush, and have built a business off of teaching it, so I'm super excited to see a version on the iPad. That being said, I really hope they take the opportunity to streamline some things and make it even more user friendly. Touch navigation would be very welcomed! I'm concerned about UI real-estate to be honest. I'm not sure how they will solve that issue. That said, I'm a huge fan of Nomad, and I agree that competition is good! I can actually see myself hopping back and fourth using features of both. Exciting times for sure!

I like starting the core sculpting wiht the comfortability of the iPad and then continue it on the Desktop. If Maxon comes up with an updated UI and can keep all the main features that is gonna be a gamechanger.

Very interesting news. I'm a newbie to 3d Sculpting so I've only got so much skin in the game right now but:
I think it'll come down to both the price and how easy it is to use on Ipad. Nomad has a fantastic user interface as well as being very value-priced for the power it brings. Zbrush may be the sculpting standard but that may not be enough to break into the mobile market.

Not a ZBrush User, but it will have a hard time IMO.
The iPad does not need yet another Sculpting App, It needs a competent suite of tools, that can handle everything 3D.
(I'm still missing Poly modeling, composition, rigging, animation, and actual rendering.)
This will most likely be a "Core" or "Lite" version. Otherwise, it would have the same issues as Blender
The main interface does look nowhere near touch-optimized. But who knows, the company has enough money to pay its way around Apple's guidelines and the Novelty of using a "Defacto standard" Professional tool will probably be enough to make most people pay even the most ludacris of prices.

Digitally, I’m more of a hobbyist than a professor, though I can use Zbrush professionally in the right circumstances.
I’ve loved Nomad as a “Zbrush”-like app and it’s been phenomenal. But there are definitely some Zbrush specific things to be desired.
As more of a hobbyist, the switch to subscription based with the Macon acquisition, I’ve had a hard time justifying it. So knowing the app will require a subscription, I’m hoping it offers a reasonable entry point for iPad users. But am worried it will only be compatible with the most up to date version of desktop Zbrush… so it will be interesting to see how that lands.
I’m hoping it’s not just sculptris for iPad. With the jam packed features that nomad offers, it really needs to be competitive on some level.

Also I use Silo more than Blender these days, I got into it years ago thanks to your tutorials. I tried Zbrush but the UI threw me off, but there are some features of Zbrush that could make it worth a look in the Mobile version.

I think it would be amazing to have Zbrush on the iPad. I’ve used Zbrush for years and Nomad as my on the go “sketch” software. I’d prefer a system that can flow between desktop and iPad. But as you said, it can’t be a dumbed down version of Zbrush core or Scuptris, it needs to be very robust and more powerful than Nomad in my opinion. Hopefully that what we get. Otherwise, why switch from Nomad, it’s already a great app that is very powerful. Honestly, I’d love to be able to do 90% of my design work on my iPad, including renders, high level measurements for 3D printing and get away from a desktop almost completely at some point.

After using nomad for about 3 years now. I can say it has taken all the best bits of other sculpting apps and made those tools in very intuitive and easy to use way. You can give nomad to a kid without prior 3d background and they can immedially pick it up and start sculpting stuff. I just can´t imagine anything similar happening with zbrush. It will be interesting to see what they will do in this mobile space. But i doubt it will change anything personally. Nomad is already doing stuff better than zbrush on many things and i can´t wait to see it on desktop later this year.

To me it sure seems like Autodesk (Maya and Max) are not as hungry as Maxon is. The linkage they have with Adobe and the fact that the Giant Adobe wants to get into 3D, I would not be surprised if they purchase Maxon's products and merge with Adobe products. As to the iPad, planning to buy one as soon as ZBrush is available for it as well as for the motion capture linkage that IPad will have with Character Creater and IClone.

ZSpheres for sure, and ZRemesher like what is already in Forger would be amazing. These two tools would make sculpting on the iPad a dream! I currently use Nomad Sculpt and only use Forger to remesh my models since it is the most affordable quad remesher (and most decent for the price..), and depending on how much they'll charge for ZBrush on iPad I *may* consider using it, but since I am a hobbyist currently it may not be for me til I'm doing more business in sculpting/printing models.

    • @Bekkocho
      @Bekkocho 10 месяцев назад

Adding onto this, I really think that Nomad Sculpt needs to add an equivalent to ZRemesher/Quad Remesher in order to compete now that ZBrush is coming to iPad (I see that Stéphane has considered it recently, in April this year).
As someone in a sort of weird middle ground between hobbyist and someone who sells models/prints, it would be the thing that keeps me with Nomad Sculpt. Instant Meshes (current Quad Remesh in Nomad) is not good enough for high quality models - it just doesn't do a good enough job for me to make my sculpts as it causes bumps (clusters of triangles in the model) no matter how you try to adjust it.
I am begging, I *really* hope that Quad Remesher is added to Nomad Sculpt 🙏

Hopefully the UI won’t be the horrible mess that the desktop app has.

My one and only concern about this announcement is the price. The desktop version is very expensive. I guess this app is gonna work as a subscription based service.
On the other hand, nomad is cheap and an overall good option but the lack of its own zremesher feature, no zmodeler/low poly/box model tools and the fact that the app is not able to keep multiple subdiv levels makes it still look like a toy. Also, is it forger gonna survive? A lot of questions to be answered by maxon.

Yet another subscription model is a nope for me. I'll just stick with Nomad.

i hope they still make it able to use 3dconnexion “space mouse” - we have USB-c and with M3 ray tracing cores.. so maybe Redshift GPU too.

It will probably be the subscription model, and i don't think that they'll offer more than Nomad actually have at this point.

I see no reason that 90% of zbrush wouldn't work on the newer Ipads. As long as you have a keyboard and use multi touch for viewport navigation. Zbrush is primarily a CPU and RAM heavy software, so there's a good chance it has almost every feature.

Interesting… does zbrush run natively on the M series Mac’s or is still using an emulation layer? Rosetta? I think if not then the more interesting story here will be the possibility of “full” zbrush getting natively supported on Mac’s alongside the iPads.

I’m mostly an amateur iPad sculptor. Mainly I use 3d to make my own reference for drawing. Having said that I’m very happy to see ZBrush coming to the iPad. I do use Forger and Nomad as well as Blender for a few things like uv unwrapping. I would want to see a working zremesher, not working very well in Forger, and uv unwrapping. If we could get insert Multi Mesh Brushes that would be amazing as well. I don’t use zbrush so I have no attachment to the interface and would like it to work similarly to Nomad as far as touch input.
