So I would say it's not cheating. It's a very risky strategy though that depends on your opponent not discovering your pattern until it's too late. It only works if the opponent doesn't expect it and their guessing pattern doesn't check the corners. A less risky alternative would be to have 1 or more of your smaller ships away from the cluster, so if the opponent finds the cluster early you still have a chance.

See this is the smart way to play this. My best friend and I made the terrible choice to have two different alcohols in each shot. You took one of the shots if you missed and the other if you hit. This backfired on me because I would miss her and have to take one shot, then she would hit me and I would have to take the other shot right after. The game lasted two hours and I took so many shots that I ended up throwing up.
