    What a completely enjoyable vidoe! One of my favorite videos ever! I compose and work with scrap wood, but this maker is a very high quality craftsman. You can tell by the way he uses the chisel with such skill and confidence. I think the look on his face after the couple expresses frustration that his fine work is wated on them.

    Fantastic beyond belief!!!! amazing how light the construction.. I love when you flex the instrument at 2:05 amazing!!!! no corner blocks, and the top doesn't look like spruce!!

    Consider, for an instance the richness of tone. The overall extension from high to low, this my friends.. this is an instrument not of the past but of the future. This is the pride of Europe, along with many others. I enjoy this video highly. If I may suggest making more of these? With the music of the instrument overlaying the manufacture?

    Très beau travail. Surprenants assemblages qui ne comprennent pas de "coins" internes dans les angles, mais ils ne semblent pas utiles contrairement à ce que disent des siècles de tradition ! Et le son est remarquable ! Merci.
    Sorry, I will try in english : Very beautiful work. Surprising in that it does not incorporate "block corners" to build and inforce these. But apparently, they are not needed, on the contrary of "rules" of centuries of tradition. And the sound is remarquable. Thanks

    Lutes have really functional-looking peg boxes whereas viole da gambe have curved ones with decorative carvings, yet both date to a similar period. I wonder why one was decorated and the other not.

    • @adampasztor6187
      @adampasztor6187 3 года назад +1

      there are sime instances, where the lute's pegbox is higly ornated (inlays, or wine like motives) but the tension of the strings and the way of playing decides on how the pegbox will look.

      They're historical. It's just cloth for structural reinforcement without weighing the instrument down.
      Historical instruments are typically a lot lighter and have a lot less pressure on the strings because of it. Makes it sound warmer, but with a bit less projection.

      Linen fabric. The hide glue dries to a crystalline hardness. This was also used on harpsichord soundboards in the backs of lutes

      der gesamte Korpus ist aus cedrelata ordorata, ein südamerikanisches leichtes Mahagoni ähnliches Holz. Das Vorbild für dieses Instrument und zwei weitere von Michel Colichon, Paris um 1685 sind aus diesem für Streichinstrumente aussergewöhnlichem Material, aber es funktioniert auch!
