    Meticulous attention to detail makes you stand out from the rest, especially the tidying up at the end of a job. Brilliant result from a 'taxing' job, which is fast becoming the norm for you two guys - well done fellas. BTW, don't expect those lightly-toasted bacon and egg sarnies at every job Al, it ain't gonna happen! Which may be good for your waistline! Onwards and upwards - let's hope for good news re your hip soon Steve. Thank you again for sharing.

    Have you ever thought about using 90mm celotex in the walls with 10mm gap. Better and works out so much cheaper. You don’t lose 50mm internal space, PIR works out at £12m2 and the ditherm32 is £20. Then the cavity lintels are so much cheaper as well as cavity closures. It’s a win win win 🙌🏻

    It looked like you connected the roof downspout grid to the kitchen grid, which I assumed was on a different foul drain system. Is it okay to connect rain water run off to the foul waste system when doing extensions?

    • @RobBaynton
      @RobBaynton 7 месяцев назад +1

      Suppose it depends where you are and on your building inspector. They definitely don’t let us in wales rain water can’t go into the foul over here

    Doesn’t that extension leak. No attempt to install a cavity tray with stepped flashings above the new rafters. The water from the cavity on the existing wall will run down the inside of the outer skin, straight into the room.

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild
      @SteveAndAlexBuild  7 месяцев назад +13

      There isn’t any water in the existing cavity , did you see any ?
      It does leak though because it hasn’t got a roof on 😬

    • @davidconnolly7346
      @davidconnolly7346 7 месяцев назад +4

      I really don’t understand your building methods in the UK. I’m a builder from Australia. We were taught that the external brick skin isn’t waterproof and that water that does penetrate runs down the back of the external brick down to the dpc and out the weep hole. Now I see you guys bridging cavities everywhere???? How do know there is no water in the cavity, you can’t see inside it????

    • @martin2466
      @martin2466 7 месяцев назад +6

      They must have some right old leaky brickwork on those Australian builds, if they are getting that volume of water running down the back of the face-work...
      What are you doing - deliberately leaving the perp - joints open?

    • @davidconnolly7346
      @davidconnolly7346 7 месяцев назад +4

      Steve I’m just trying to understand this. Yes we do leave open perp joints, I’ve never seen those plastic inserts you use. Water can’t enter a cavity through a peep it’s the other way around it acts as a drain. We do get a lot of rain. So are you saying that your cavities don’t get water in them, if so why are you using dpc and perps above window and door openings? In building a new build we leave clean outs at the bottom dpc which the bricklayers hose out every after to make sure the bottom dpc has no droppings and debris too.
      You certainly couldn’t build an extension like that without a new stepped cavity tray system above it.
