I'm a huge Strauss fan, so I was shocked to hear that he wrote a violin concerto that I had never heard about. Even though this is an entirely different style than the tone poems and operas that I associate with Strauss, this is still a wonderful piece of music.
I have spoken to many people who dislike classical music, and most of them say that this music is terribly annoying to them. They say whenever they hear it being played, it is just a sound which makes them feel annoyed. I think we are quite blessed to have a love for classical music. I guess we have just been blessed with the ears to enjoy the beauty and greatness of it.
Most of these people probably enjoy music from films and videos games (most of which are orchestral music) - direct descendants of western classical music. The name "classical music" is sadly often unjustly hated.
Great Henri V, how beautiful this concert! You created the first electronic violinistc encyclopaedia in the web. All the artists should be grateful to You for this great service You are carrying on. Sincere thanks.
@alienalienss Then again, Mendelssohn wrote his octet when he was 16, and it's one of the most famous pieces of chamber music in the world. I really don't know why people don't play this one.
@IZachDallen haha. i agree that people should play this piece more often. the thing is it's super difficult! it has got to be one of the most technically challenging pieces. everything is so high up and fast. the first 20 bars of the solo are already absurdly hard and the soloist is expected to carry this level of technique throughout the whole piece. it is undeniably a masterpiece though!
@IZachDallen the famous version that everyone knows is a revised version. the original is actually quite different. but yes, i suppose the creative artistic element is still there
does anyone know if there is a full video of all three movements of this concerto played by Dejan Bogdanovic? I can only see the second movement uploaded... thanks for posting this!
"I am the best second-rated composer", so said Strauss. No wonder he didn't promote this concerto. No wonder I've never heard it before. However, don't expect me to spend time practicing this piece.

Interessanterweise akzeptieren und schätzen viele Filmmusik, die sie als klassische Musik niemals anhören würden. Hehehe😁

I don't even play violin... but damn! Those chromatic double stops look insane!
Wonderful music. He had not yet found his own distinctive voice but who cares? Absolutely beautiful. Very beautifully played, too.
Such a nice concerto. I can only imagine why this is so rarely played and recorded.
How can anyone not like music like that?
Thanks Henri. This is insane. Like violin fireworks.

I think this is awesome
Richard is the best strauss
Reminds me of Vieuxtemps (and that’s a good thing).

You have never heard it before because you do not know the violin rep very well, perhaps?
Paige Greene it’s a quite obscure piece to be fair
I never to play it,oh it's too difficult.
