Thanks to the covid time. Working from home (way better speakers than at work) 200 cantates from Bach can easily keep me happy.

Recorded 20 August of this year. A concert from the future! I always knew déjà vu was real.

Marvelous music played fantastically. Although in the opening chorus/recitative i prefer the "solo" parts to be sung by solosts, I must say this works just fine. Love the arias and especially the final choral.

Bach probably expected the whole thing to be sung soloists -- not just the so-called "solo" parts. Normally I enjoy it very much both ways (i.e., with concertists only or with a choir in the modern sense); but here, I'd prefer it in the original scoring.

Today is February 18, 2022. JS Bach was good in the past, he is good in the present and also in the future, as shown here (concert on August 20, 2022).

I share your opinion, the stability is certainly a sign the climate must be good inside this ensemble, despite the huge work to carry out for each cantata.

Very nice, that short interlude in the choral! Reminded me of Monteverdi's in his Maria Vesper.

interesting choice of making the section of the choir to sing the recitativos in the middle of the first choir instead of the soloists. I actually prefer the latter because it gives more dimension and differs the two parts (I like the idea of individuals within a congregation giving their own point of view among the crowd). Apart from that, very muscular performance, which is nice on a cantata that can be a bit sedate in the execution. Lutz clearly went for the theatre here, see for example the long harpsichord flourishing before the tenor recitativo. Also excellent idea to use a more extended version of the final chorale (is it the Rosenmüller version?), which gives the piece an archaic taste.

excellent technically perfect workmanlike but incredibly boring performance unfortunately they do not realize that the words are secondary to the musical phrases....bach was paid for the words as it were, but above all he was bach revealing something way beyond the religious words..
