Incorrect. He is well known for being a cheap shot expert. Ever watch him play live? I've seen him for years sucker punch the Sedin twins. He is most definitely not who I'd ever want my kids to follow as an example. Joe Sakic would be that person.

Trevor Linden’s final NHL game was against Calgary. Iggy brought the team back out to shake his hand. Linden told him he was the best player in the game. That was the 2008 season when he had 50 goals. Iggy was such a class act. Love how he had his teammates show that respect.

Iggy played 1/2 of the most productive years of his career being the best player of the “dead puck era”. Had he played in the 70’s or 80’s or had his career start a decade later like ovechkin he would have eclipsed his already impressive totals. He also had no elite forwards to play with and help his numbers get fat. And he did it all as a person of colour which added additional challenges we can only guess at. If I had to build the perfect player from scratch I would get Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla. I met the man at his arena dedication in Edmonton and he was gracious with his time and you could tell how much hockey and his fans have meant to him. Iggy is a champion in every sense of the word and deserves the accolades.
The Stanley cup may not have his name on it….but his fans know the puck was in and his name is on it in our hearts.

I am die hard Canucks fan, born and raised in B.C, which makes me a natural rival of the Flames and boy do I ever hate the Flames. Always have, always will, despite the fact Calgary is a great city. That all being said, Iginla was one of those players who rightly earned universal love and respect from all hockey fans, including his opponents. Such a wonderful person in multiple ways, he was a major asset to the teams he played with both on & off the ice. And we all remember the moment when Crosby yelled “Igy!” to which Iginla made one of the most famous passes in hockey history.

As a flames fan there are a ton of players that I've called my favourite current Flames player but there is only going to be one that I will call my favourite all time flame and there's no doubt that it's Jarome Iginla. The guy was so impactful on the ice, he was an offensive beast, he took his team to places we had no business being in and his determination was incredible. He wasn't the flashiest players, he wasn't the most skilled, but fuck was a beast on the ice. If he seemed invisible on the ice, the opposition better keep clear of him because you don't want to wake up that monster, because he'll first fight you on the ice and then he'll beat you on the scoreboard. He is exactly the type of player you want on your top line and he's the exactly what you want as a leader, everyone in the league respected the shit out of him and no one wanted to fuck with him because even though he was one of the best players during his time he'll still throw off the gloves and rarely if ever loses.
When I think about the perfect hockey player I think about that one picture where he's got his mask off, he's got blood under the one eye, the mouthpiece is hanging out of his mouth and you know the other dude is probably not looking to go ever again with Iginla. He was a beast and probably still is.

It's so weird how he lead the league in goal scoring twice, had 2 50 goal season, but as scoring was lower before the lockout, his 41 goal season was his 2nd league leading goal scoring season. 50 in the 08' season had him 3rd. 70 points guys in the late 90s, early 2000s were elite. Nowadays, 70 points is first line material but not considered as a star. Also, in 2004, with 41 goals, Iginla, Rick Nash and Ilya Kovalchuk were tied for the Rocket Richard. Kinda hilarious to have 3 guys that owns the trophy, and with "only" 41 goals each. lol

The respect he showed for Trevor Linden in Trevor's last game really showed me what kind of person and player he was. If more players played like Iginla, regardless of talent level, the NHL would be a lot better league to watch. He was the prototype for the kind of player I've always enjoyed watching. I think if Iginla stayed in Boston - there would not been a drop-off in points. - He played very well there; played on a very good line and had that swag in Boston.

Will never forget how close he was to winning the cup in 04. Game 7 lost by 1 goal.

Morgan Klimchuk busting as the 1st rounder traded for Iginla really doesn’t feel nice as a Flames fan from Regina. He was the Pats’ next good player after Ashton and Weal didn’t really make the league and I was so excited for a Regina born Pat to go to my favourite team. And then he didn’t pan out, and it made the Iginla trade officially horrible. Not a good time

I still believe that had he stuck with the trade to Boston, the Bruins would have won it with him in 2013

It's amazing what you can do in EA sports haha. In my Season in NHL Slapshot on Wii where my Canucks 2011 roster won the cup I scored 52 goals with Edler.
