I'm too young to have witnessed Ian live. I don't know why he doesn't get mentioned as One of the all time English League Division greats. He's clearly got amazing range as a striker. Can play and shoot accurately with either foot from short and long ranges, loves to lob the keeper, lightning quick in short spaces, seen of moments in the video of him dropping deep, has a bit of flair and superb dribbling skills, likes to get forward and be as close to the box and run behind defenders, has great anticipation and reads opp defenders well as it shows in mins 1:35. And best of all he's got that apex predator instinct in the box. Really a complete forward.

Sometimes you watch the highlights and goals of old strikers and think “good for his time”. But with Ian Wright you think “holy shit what would this guy have been worth in today’s market”. 185 goals in 280 appearances, many of them beautiful strikes. And this in an era when Arsenal were not a creative force and only scoring 40/50 goals a season.

I grew up in South London and had the privilege to play against Ian, Danny Wallace and David Rocastle throughout our school years. Ian was in another class and no one could understand how at 18 he still wasn't a pro.

What a player! King of the diving headers. Ian Wright and Romario were my biggest inspirations.
They were similar in playing style. Although Wright was much quicker I would say. Left foot, right foot, header it didn't matter they were completely strikers. They were incredible dribblers too. 1:50 - 2:17
Two different ways of playing overall, Romário in his pinnacle did those things, built plays, had an incredible explosion (see his second goal vs Uruguay in 1993).
But he also was a winger, especially on the right side in his early days.
And towards the end he said "f it. The ball runs, I don't".
Ian always played the same way, being a threat from basically anywhere.
Romário got his flowers on the field, Ian was criminally underrated.
Us Gooners have been spoilt with quality forwards over the past 30years, but this guy was hugely Underrated. Long before Sky was around you could almost guarantee when checking teletext for latest scores that the name Wright would be under the Arsenal score. The passion he has for Arsenal then has never changed. LEGEND! Ill almost guarantee if we never would have had the GOAT (Henry14) there would be a statue of Wrighty outside the Emirate's.

4:00 I was at Plough lane watching that as a kid. I remember Plough Lane was more like a non league ground, no seats only benches and the roof of the stand was quite low - so low that when Wright took that shot I couldn't see the ball until it came back down into the net.
So many great memories watching Wrighty for Palace. Makes it all the sweeter that he seems such a good dude.
Ian Wright is easily one of the best all round forwards to have graced the game of football. The best aspects of his game were his enthusiasm, work rate and finishing. For my money an Ian Wright and Romario front two would be bloody lethal. Peace.

The best part of the first goal is the way you can see the WHOLE crowd get up in excitement as he double volleys it over the defender only for him to finish it with a looping shot into the net and then watch the crowd go f***ing wild over it.
