    Love, love, love that you’ve made a curtain dress. I’ve collected so many pairs of beautiful curtains over the years with the sole intention of making clothes from them. I remember being very young and seeing The Sound of Music for the first time on Telly one Christmas. When Maria makes new clothes for the children from the curtains I think my eyes almost popped out of my head! I think it’s my earliest memory of being totally inspired by something. I would even go as far as to say, now that I think about it, that that one scene could be responsible for my love of trawling Charity Shops and finding alternative uses for the treasures that I find - making use of the resources that we have around us. Seeing this video and your dress has given me such a thrill this afternoon that I feel I could cry and I just want to give you a massive (virtual) hug. ❤

      😊👍
      I actually have a pinafore dress that I call The Sound of Music dress as it was the first one I made from a pair of corduroy curtains!
      Then I have the Joey dress. That was made from the duvet cover that used to cover my Mam's parrot's cage 🤣

      @@marionsworld24 Yes!! Using your imagination and your own hands brings these objects to life in a way that no new shop bought item ever can. They all need names to go with their stories. 😁

    Marion I wait each week with great anticipation for our next 'chat'. I tell my friends I feel I'm in the room with you learning, as a fellow stitcher. Love following your trips..places I would never get to see. I live in a small country town in Western Australia, 200 km from Perth city. I've been Uk 30 years ago but am 'touring' with you. I Was so happy to see you add a fabric leaf to your tree. I had already added 3 to mine and loved the variation. I haven't yet tried the chain stitch with the French knots, so that will be my next leaf. I thought I'd finish off with a few tufts of grass. The embroidery has been an education, not all as beautifully executed as yours, but I'm not changing it, as its a journey to look back on.
    I'm excited to see how you get on at the show in my home town of Birmingham. I'm don't get to see these wonderful events as I get claustrophobic in crowds. I hope you enjoy it .
    By the way, your curtain dress is lovely.

    The dress looks great Marion. Made me smile though as I have the same Laura Ashley fabric as curtains in my sitting room. I have a different colour though, Autumn shades of gold and tans. Not forgetting all those different leaves you have sewn on the tree. So many new techniques to try out. Oddly I have been sewing a small embroidery using net over the fabric and embridering on top of the net. I painted the net with intense colours. Have a wonderful time at the show. Looking forward to seeing how you got on ...perhaps on Sunday evening. 😊

    Love the curtain dress. My Mum was a great seamstress and made all our clothes. Lots of them were made with curtain fabric because it’s usually a better quality than many dress fabrics. She didnt use second hand fabrics, (no thrift shops in those days) but curtain remnant pieces were cheap and often dress, or at least skirt, length. Though dresses in the sixties were pretty skimpy so didn’t take much fabric. And of course I was …ahem… a lot skimpier too 🙄. My boys especially see photos of me from from the sixties and are very critical of the length of my skirts… hehe. Oh to be young and skinny again 😂😂

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  7 месяцев назад

      Agree with all of this 😊 I was trying to think of what was there before thrift shops..🤔
      In the UK at least there were church jumble sales. Which usually meant the church hall filled with all sorts of everything that people wanted rid of. I can't remember whether people sold their own stuff or whether it had been donated to sell for church funds. I was was when I was little.

    I can’t tell you how beautiful this tree and the leaves are turning out ❤❤ I recently finished washing all my fabric fragments that I’ve been accruing since the fall and ironing them up, tearing crooked edges and pulling the threads. I had quite the stash of different colored threads - that and all the snippets from a monthly embroidery project that I had accumulated, that I actually tossed literally the week before I saw your video where you made the tree. I’ve never been one to save remnants, but I now have a container to save them so I can try to make a tree comparable to yours.

    Hello Marion
    I missed out on last week, being on holiday with my daughter, so now I'm catching up your stitching. Love your tree, especially the leave with chainstitch and knots.
    I hope you enjoyed your stay in Birmingham and I will watch the video tomorrow.
    Warm wishes, Karin

    Adorei as folhas da árvore, ficou lindo e trouxe-me boas ideias. Adorei o vestido, ex-cortinado. Parabéns 💜💜💜
