    Been playing Captain Claw since I was a kid, and still to this day it's a quality game to play through. In my opinion, it had lots of potential to become a great ongoing franchise that sadly was lost in legal trouble.

    • @alexandrewvice6845
      @alexandrewvice6845 6 лет назад +9

      ProClifo I still don't undeerstand where the trouble came from, monolith pretty much made the game and out of nowhere an obscure studio claims that the game is theirs.

    • @claw2002
      @claw2002 6 лет назад +14

      The trouble came from the acquisition by Warner Bros in 2004, which left several games, most notably the No One Lives Forever series, basically in legal limbo where no one is sure who exactly owns the rights.
      Questionable as their claim might be, WB's lawyers are unfortunately more than happy to shoot down any efforts towards releasing these games again, as was the case with a NOLF remaster by Night Dive Studios a few years ago.

    Something I've learned recently is that there's no such thing as a truly dead franchise. Anything can be revived with a bit of public support from people who have a bit of money.
    And sometimes that's not even necessary... like with the Bubsy 1 Remake.
    So who knows? Maybe we'll eventually see Claw 2 - and maybe this video could even be the catalyst for that to happen.

    I remember seeing this game at a friend's house around the same time it was released, in 1997. I thought it was just an average platformer back then and never got the chance of playing it myself or even remembering its name. I was impressed to finally discover it again after all these years and after so many years I can appreciate how good the gameplay looks, and I take the word of Clint that it's a great platformer without the need of playing it myself.
    I was amazed to see Monolith developing it. Monolith sure has some varied library of works, and each one is fantastic. Too bad they became victims to corporate greed with all that Middle-Earth: Shadow of War microtransactions fiasco.

    In Blood II: The Chosen, there is an easter egg poster of Claw in the Cabal's headquarters displaying the cover art featured on the big, glossy game box. I've played The Chosen countless times and was always curious about this game. Looks pretty sweet, and I never knew it had such a big following.

    I love the irony in saying Claw wasn't an "excessive violent" game, meanwhile you shoot the bad guys, explode them with dynamite, slash them up with a sword, drown them and so on... I guess Jason Hall has a very _interesting_ definition of violence.

    Damn, I've never heard of this game and now I really want to play it! Sadly in 1997 I was wholly obsessed with 3D and Tomb Raider and I probably wouldn't have cared about Claw even if I knew it existed. They need to re-release this on Steam so I can buy it.

    Claw was a game of my childhood! It was fully localized in my country and simply hypnotized me and my friend.I will never forget those magical, snowy evenings we spent playing this game .And indeed, in our country, it was released as The Captain Claw. I remember some sentences from the game till this day :)

    Gee, I WONDER why the big box physical version of a game about anthropomorphic animals with art of anthropomorphic animals on the cover is extremely hard to find and/or expensive.

    "Claw... delivers a high-quality game experience without resorting to excessive violence"
    _Proceeds to stab, uppercut into a pit of spikes, set on fire, throw into acid pit, freeze and explode enemies_
    Unless that little blurb up there was written by Ed Boon himself, this makes no sense, considering that this game is just a bit of blood short of being basically a Mortal Kombat platformer.
