- The long-lost seventh iteration of Ford Simulator has been found! Not that anyone cares but me. Still, these digital product catalogs were fun in the mid '90s, especially when they're as full of FMV as this.

I've uploaded the CD-ROM to Internet Archive complete with scans of everything it came with. Enjoy the 90s FMV!

Aahh 90s FMV, what's not to love about it :D
wow! tanks!
one of the many reasons to love this channel.
would you ever consider uploading wizzards n' warlords? apparently you have the only copy in existence.
Thank you so much!
Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you for sharing it!
YES YES YES
NOT A CAR
Oh HAI RCR TEAM. We've been expecting you for a while. In fact quite a while...
LGR/RCR collab Gran Turismo 2 for Bleemcast review when?
I remember LGR commenting on videos of yours YEARS ago.
And this is proof the Ford Aspire wasn't a hoax!
8mb of ram? do you think I work at the NASA? calm down there
My 1996 PC had 48MB RAM. Windows 95 ran beautifully on it.
Before anyone thinks I was stinking rich, I had this machine around eight years later, when a local school wanted to get rid of a number of old classroom PCs. I was allowed to pick what I wanted, so I combined half a dozen more or less working old PCs into one machine. The 100MHz 486 made it a fun retro machine, as DOSBox ran terribly on the PC I had at the time. No USB though, which forced me to either burn games to CD or use floppy disks. Running through the house back and forth with floppies turned out to be a good workout.
And a 486?! Hold your horses Mr. Gates
😂😂🤣😂😂
I Once got a steam game that would not run because it needs 512Mb or more RAM. I Have 16GB ram. I Tried it in a VM and it worked until i set the VM's ram to anything above 8GB, Then it would throw up that 512Mb error
NZZN or you could have just removed some ram for a bit
Props to the hardworking copywriter who managed to give the narrator something positive to say about the Ford Aspire. You know a car is an absolute rotbox when even the name is telling you that you can do better.
ass pyre
Gakk 86 yeah like my Acer Aspire it is not aspiring at all it has a faulty hard drive
Yeah, no kidding - that car was a dumpster fire.
You could say it was Aspiring to be a car.
(The preceding statement was an actual joke from my actual dad around the time of that car's manufacture.)
Meanwhile Europe got a perfectly serviceable Fiesta. Like it wasn't the benchmark fun small car it is today but it was a lot better than this Geo looking mess.
"Fewer features than previous releases." Wow. Ford was way ahead of the video game curve. Make sequels, but have less stuff!
Thought this was a Regular Car Review.
Silvermania lol you came in from Patrick George’s post didn’t you?
B R O W N
N O T A C A R
My Mustang's best Mustang because I have a toy car, that looks like my real car.
Is this LGR’s million megabyte zip drive?
"I ended up with a copy of Ford Simulator..." ENDED UP. I like that. Because you clearly would not buy this, you'd have to end up with it. ;) Also, THE MEEEERC. Gosh, I miss my Grand Marquis...kind of.
Haha, it's the truth as I have no idea where it came from. Just kind of ended up on the computer one day :D
Roses! i love your videos and your collaborations. gotta say i was pretty stoked to see we both once owned the same model car (Grand Marquis). i miss my Marquis too, (i still have it but it's immobile (it is a '89)). thanks for all the laughs.
Bought a clapped out one of them from Las Vegas for$800 and drove it to New York and back a couple years ago. Great cars
Bought a '97 Marquis in 2016 as my first car and still driving it. Mechanically held up like it just came off the lot 21 years ago.
That's not a Merc.
The text in the Brazilian shareware catalogue says:
"Try your Ford model
How about driving a Ford car without leaving the computer? Interested? Then take the opportunity with Ford Test Driver II, a more recent version of Ford Simulator, already reviewed in MS.
Beyond driving one of the 16 models available in the USA, you can also check out the performance of the automobiles in the shopping demo, where every car details are shown.
The forte of this software is marketing the manufacturer, in the detailing and animation of the most modern technical aspects of the cars.
Compatible with CGA, EGA and VGA, it uses few graphical resources from the EGA/VGA cards, which is unforgivable in a software like this. It is worth it more for the curiosity than its games."
I'm not sure why I took the time to translate it, but I did anyway. Great video as always, Clint!
You took the time because you want to help niggas who don't understand Portuguese. I'm niggas 😂😂
0:58 I really hope the forum poster 'Earl' discovers this video, it would make his week I think!
Vladdie777, sadly the Dixie Chicks got him.
And if they comment they must get pinned!
Vladdie777 especially after *15 years* poor guy just wanted a really cool advert

I'm sorry but I think you missed the aspect of the candy bar and soda pop that: they're delicious
Christ, I laughed all stupid at that.
General Motors had their own competing software: Buick Dimensions, released for the IBM PC and Macintosh.
If you crochet a pentagram and sacrifice a VHS machine and at least 6 Readers' Digests it opens up a portal to the Buick Dimension.
The Game Over screen is an explosion?! THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PINTO.
Akriloth2160 considering it was 20 years after the pinto I'd say yes.
Probably knew about the Kuga / Explorer as well.
chrwl007 or the crown vic
Fitting for their whole lineup.
@@9HighFlyer9 I wonder if having a metal pole positioned between the bumper support and the gas tank is a great idea
Am I the only one that thought that Mercury looked luxurious?
Travis Kraft I was looking at the old fiesta.
That’s what Lincoln is for...
I had one of those it’s a very much a luxury car especially for 96
It looked grey. Just greyness all over.
My first car in high school was a 96 Cougar XR7. It had the 4.6L V8 and was incredibly comfortable. Especially considering I later had a 06 Mustang GT and while it was way more fun overall, it was nowhere near as comfortable as the old Mercury.
Micro Sistemas, the Brasilian Tech Magazine ! My father was one of the writters for it :D
I've never seen a Ford Aerostar Wagon in really pink Iris Frost Clearcoat Metallic on the road.
Martin Kronström I once had a gray and blue two-tone Aerostar, paid $50 for it. It would run precisely twice a day.
I have but it was the mercury
Ahaha, those years when Pink turned to hue of rust.
I used to own a green Aerostar. Wound up selling it to a junk yard once it got to the point that it was costing more than it was worth to keep it running (they gave me more than a dealer would have if I used it as a trade-in).
I commuted every day for over a year with three other guys in a white and gold two tone Aerostar back in '05-'06. It hit 400000 miles without much trouble. I think fuel costs put it into early retirement. I've owned a few Ford products from this era and have nothing too bad to say about them.
The Desert Bus BETA has been discovered!
eRock _ how long before it ends up on bgdq?
"Who'a, what the heck is wrong with your face" Hahaha!
As someone with a listening comprehension disorder, I greatly appreciate the effort you put in your video subtitles. Thank you ♥
LoL ur deaf!!! L0ZER!
And I thought I knew about the viewer demographic of LGR...
“I made a video about it almost a decade ago!”
Me: RUclips wasn’t around in 2006, at least not like it is now.
(Realizes it’s almost 2019)
Me: OH GOD.
Even then, he was part of RUclips since 2006 anyway... He's one of the early RUclipsrs.
the thumbnail got me confused, i didnt know if it was a LGR video or a Regular Car reviews video
Haha same here.
same haha! Love both channels, though.
Pulled over for driving 4 miles over the speed limit?
Must be driving in Virginia.
Videos like this are why I absolutely adore this channel. A fascinating piece of technology that I've never even heard of dug up from the past and discussed in an entertaining matter. Seriously, this video was just a good time all around.
Strain42 You really nailed my thoughts. I‘m into game consoles since 1989 starting with an Atari 2600 and into PCs since 1993. Pleasant retro feelings watching this channel.
I remember grabbing a free Sony demo DVD in 1998 but I couldn’t actually test it until 2002 when I bought a new PC with DVD drive. But I actually kept the DVD all the years just for that moment experiencing some free stuff.
watching that IBM thinkpad in 4K is pleasingly nice
I disagree. I thought it was nicely pleasing.
1sonyzz at first I misread that and thought you were watching this in 4k on your IBM ThinkPad and I thought "What monster ThinkPad do you have and where can I find one?"
The POW meter made me laugh far more than it should have done.
You, sir, are a digital archeologist!
Just finished watching the C64 Mini review by 8-bit Guy and BAM! New video by LGR pops up! This is a good day.
I agree!
i know, right?
Yep, and I think the videos were the best way to experience both products.
I see You're a man of culture
I watched that today too!
CD-ROM's full of videos like this sooner or later will become a point of agonizing explanation to the younger generation born into this current world of high-speed internet video streaming and on-demand services. There should be wings set up in libraries or museums with mid-90s PCs and a selection of things to run from floppy or CD-ROM so people can sit their kids down at them and say "GO AHEAD, TRY AND DO SOMETHING." Just sit back and watch the comedy ensue.
Whenever I see 90s car video (like the clips on the disk) my mind is drawn back to "F- YOU, BALTIMORE!" :D Thanks as always, Clint :)
Also, you never owned a Ford?! What young man can refuse the freedom of owning a flesh-colored '86 Ford Aerostar van?!
You could have owned a white F-150, where everyone thought you were either a contractor, or driving a company/fleet truck..
thedungeondelver That Big Bill's Hell memory-triggering happened to me a couple of times yesterday when I was watching the latest Caddicarus vid. The DVD's interludes had that same blue-to-black gradient.
A Young man with the Option to drive pretty much any other car
Since you mentioned that brief moment when things came on CD, perhaps talk about Encarta? Microsoft's foray into the digital encyclopedia world.
I just found an Encarta CD among all the junk left in the house I've bought. Haven't tried it yet, needs some cleaning...
@@MetalTrabant What year?
6:54 Sounds like an accurate simulation of the steering on my old Ford Festiva (an Aspire in the US).
This and WinTrek were my favourite games on PC in the mid 90's. Upon reflection, I should have just gone and played outside.
Fun Fact: My 1996 Ford has a POW! Meter on the dashboard.
I am up to 3 POW!s so far. Do I get to take it back to the showroom and test drive another model?
POW ! POW ! POW ! POW !
KABOOM!
WHAMO!
OOFF!
PLEASE tell me you'll upload this somewhere! I love this kind of nonsense!
archive.org/details/FordSimulator7
Awesome!
I didn't know Ford made a car simulator of its own. This game is interesting.
I love how the only time you see these 'exciting' and 'desirable' vehicles these days is as rust buckets, headliner hanging down, and muffler booming.
This could totally be a Phillips CD-i game
Dim Nimrod what about legend of zelda cdi.
Featuring this in a What You Missed News
So in other words the driving experience is like driving a real ford.
I disagree, my Ford drove straight and true and was fairly reliable. Mind you, I drove a european mondeo so I might be seeing only one side
Billy H. Got em'
No crowds in this game sadly. But physics are accurate.
Was thinking the same thing. Only, my thought process worked liked this: It's pulling to either side of the road, because that's what Ford does! They're just getting you ready to head for a shoulder and get ready to push the stinkin' car LOL!
If you like this, LGR, then try out Street Rod (old DOS games.) It is the pinnacle of the genre of faux 3d driving games from this era. You will not be disappointed, and it WILL make a good video.
Nothing makes you feel more like a man than a Thunder Cougar Falcon Bird! Oh wait, that one's not available yet.
Waldimart Less than a thousand years away!
Handling seems accurate, lots of steering wheel play back then :p
At least there were some cars available in BROWN. I'd love to hear Mr. Regular do the VO work for this.
8bitguy and LGR, it's a good day
The game portion reminds me of the legendary book titled "Unsafe at any speed" by Ralph Nader.
Siana Gearz a book full of crap, just like Nader
A book full of crap just like this free Ford CD. Here, fixed this for you, evilkillerwhale.
"Unsafe At Any Speed" showed DEEP lack of understanding of engineering. It was yellow-dog journalism at its finest. ruclips.net/video/NI9Hq0_Mhy0/видео.html It's a well-known bout of stupidity.
I'm quite aware that it was factually flawed. And yet it catalysed an important debate that might have saved some lives and left a cultural and historic impact. I don't have an opinion on the personality of the author and I think it's not so important - many good books were written by bastards and bad ones by good people.
I just wiki'd this. I don't see how it's full of crap? It lays out perfectly things we take for granted now in terms of safety, cost, quality and environmental concerns.
So.... Basically, it IS like driving a Ford 😂😁
"Ford Simulator"
Sounds like those playable memes that have been poking up on steam since Goat simulator
I used to own a 1985 ford mustang lx 5.0. The best car I ever had.
There's a neighbor who owns one in brown. Damn it's ugly.
Michael500ca Good taste good sir.
Why do I have the screaming impression that this was made with Macromedia Director - probably on a PowerMac?
Looks like the type of thing that would be on the CD-I
At 1:05 the description translated from Pt-br for those who care: "Experience your Ford Model. What about to drive a Ford car without leaving the PC? Interested? So enjoy this opportunity with Ford Test Driver 2, an updated version of the current Ford Simulator, already analysed in MS(not sure what is MS in this case!). Beyond driving one of the 16 models available in USA. you can also observe the performance of the automobiles in the showroom, where every car detailed is showed. The highlights of this software is the marketing of the maker, in the details and the top notch animations of the technical characteristics of the cars. Compatible with CGA, EGA and VGA, it uses few graphical resources of the EGA and VGA cards, witch is unforgiven in a software like this. It is worth more for the curiosity than for the game itself."
Im a native Pt-Br speaker, but not an english native speaker, so sorry for any mistakes! :P
MS = Micro Sistemas
Ford Simulator 7.0 is the Citizen Kane of driving games.
Holy crap, I had a Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer edition lolz
LGR, I live in Brazil, and I don't know why, but this version was widely distributed here, through those magazines that came with a cdrom.
Kids, back when we only had 1 or 2 megabytes of video memory, we often had to get by with 256 colours on the desktop. Even for full-motion video and photos, which gave results that looked like this. And we thought that it looked GOOD. Seeing that dithering now brings forward an odd blend of nostalgia and cringing; I used to wait twenty minutes to get a postage-stamp sized video (in glorious 256-colour Quicktime format) that showed a preview of the next week's episode of Star Trek: DS9 or Voyager. The video quality was nowhere near as good as this CD-ROM was, but I still thought it was wonderful and glorious!
remember the infomercials to sell multimedia PC's where they kept showing the same postage stamp sized video of the Saturn V rocket launching over and over? It comes with a video encyclopedia!
You see, 24-bit color graphics cards did exist in 1996, It's just that most people in 1996 didn't use the 24-bit color at all, also 4-megabyte graphics card did exist in 1996, so was that right?
The menu is way too good for a 1996 game.
"Molasses and snot" - love it !!!
I HAD THIS!!! Once I saw the eisel and cars.. I recognized it right away.. I got one when I bought a used mustang in 1997 in the glove box.. I ended up dropping out of the car deal, but I kept the CDROM.. (oops)..
"easel" is a three legged painting stand, "palette" is the thing in the screenshot that holds blobs of paint
The game part: its not that the game sucks and that you can't stay on the road its the fact that your driving a ford and fords drive like crap so I guess its an accurate ford sim
OMG, I laughed so hard when that excited gas attendants face popped up! Your verbal confirmation execution was perfectly timed! I must have replayed that bit like 10 times. My wife came to check on me because how loud and hysterically I was laughing.
Good to see your IBM Thinkpad in action again :)
This is cool! It's essentially the predecessor to modern "build your car" programs that almost every car company has on their website nowadays.
I had a promotional disc from Pontiac that came out around the same year. No game included though it did have a screensaver.
Bryant Mitchell Was the screen saver a Trans Am?
Oh the 90's. To make anything mildly interesting just put it on CD
Imagine being able to simulate driving a ford owned vehicle from 1996 that would be crazy. Also I think for the game part, to select a vehicle I believe it is whatever one you were previewing on the main tab like the video tab
All Ford Vehicles that it could be used in Coliras Aurora from 1950s to 2000s
Just add a ZING! and the driving will turn into a stand up routine
"even at low speed you're frequently but inconsistently being pulled over from one side to the other". That seems like a very realistic simulation of how those early 90s Fords drove
You are on a roll lately, Clint! I'm loving these frequent sub popups from you!
I've had the same schedule for many years, nothing's changed ;)
Glad you're enjoying though!
Well that shows how much I pay attention. :D
Either way, I push through my seething jealousy of your PC box collection to thoroughly enjoy your videos. They are the highlight of my week. Especially when I get a Tech Tales to watch!
In this modern age of widespread crappy "simulator" adoption it's clear that ford simulator was ahead of it's time. RUclipsrs of today would love a modern version of this lol
so the simulator acts just like a Ford
Being as cars are my first passion, followed by electronics AND I'm a Ford guy, this video was stellar. I'm weird and dig 90's cars. All of your content is superb and informative!
Always look forward to new LGR!
I didnt know you guys got the aspire, here they were called a ford laser, built in japan alongside mazdas 323
5:47 - SHO sighting!!!
acvieluf if only it wasn't SHO slow
fo' SHO. And it was 3rd gen. The car nerd in me was thinking, "a 96 SHO didn't have the option for manual," when he was selecting it, haha.
2nd gen, however. Sweet cars for their day.
What an interesting little piece of retail history ☺ I do miss the odd little promo things like this the companies used to make.
LGR, The 8-Bit Guy, Techmoan
I drive a Ford and I can confirm that Ford simulator is 100% accurate
Jaguar xj
I think the X300 and X308 variants of the XJ's were the prettiest ones ever made. And it was probably thanks to Ford, rather than in spite of - since X300 was the first XJ produced entirely by Ford. I own a X308, and it's such a sweet car. Same nice red color as in the picture.
I own a X308 it is one of the prettiest Jags ever built
I played an older version years ago. I think v5.0. the SHO Taurus was the fastest car in the game.
Come to florida where it's technically impossible to get a speeding ticket for going over 4mph the speed limit, also drug addicts that will eat your face off.
Gotta say, if most of those cars aren’t rusted out and broken by now I would get one.
Ford simulator: the emotion of driving in a commute
Woa.. games sure were fun back then ;d
“a few technical details which include some details of the technical variety.” 😂
"Oh boy, I can't wait to drive that foxbody Mustang!" - no one ever
Bizarre. So you just unveiled lost media you found on eBay?
The narrator on the Mercury Video sounds like a Disney world voice
All vehicles in my family growing up were Ford. 1985 Ford Ranger, 1984 Mercury Topaz, 1989 Ford Ranger, 1979 Ford F150 Custom, 1995 Ford Windstar (what an utter piece of garbage the Windstar was!). Both my sisters first cars were Ford, one had a Taurus (1991 I think?) and the other a 90's era Escort two door. And I'm driving a 2004 Ford Ranger lol. Interesting, I had no idea car manufactures made CD's like that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They gotta do advertising and marketing any way they can.
lance ripplinger I agree about the Windstar. My family owned a 95 and three years later we traded it for a Dodge Durango
So this is basically one of the rarest items in your collection now?
"Driving in this is atrocious"
Well, it's a Ford simulator...
This is the most coverage the Ford Aspire has seen in two decades.
Okay I’m just gonna say that SOME Ford made (or licensed) games are actually pretty good, like Ford Racing 3, I still play that game regularly to this day. Albeit mostly because of nostalgia, but it was and still is fun.
I remember after I bought my Escort in the mid 90's Ford sent me one of these- don't know where it went 0_o
Well, better than a GMC, right? lol
Nope, never got to mess around with any of these, I knew about them and I had seen this one before (it was many years back and it wasn't exactly a place where I could of just hopped on the computer and perused the software).
So, soon I'll (maybe) be able to at least, have a look at 7.0 (if it runs on Windows 7).
>inb4 we find ford simulator 8 developed by sega or something
Ahh, the Ford Aspire... as in, “I’m Aspiring to drive a better car than this dog!” 🤪
Hey, that was my first car and it used to do surprisingly well driving on 4wd roads that it had no right to drive on (I guess because it was to light to notice the bumps or get stuck in the mud). Also, it was called the Festiva in Aus.
Ooh, and only a year before Gran Turismo was released.
Dat sweet Aerostar Wagon tho. UNH!
Nice that u keep revieving those dead games lol
