Thank you for putting this together, after only a little over 2 years my mic stopped working and Jabra refused to take it under warranty. For a 300 Euros device that just isn't right! I followed your procedure yesterday and now it finally works! So thank you!! Only thing is, now I had a little less sound in the left ear compared to the right. I must have screwed something up somewhere, but at least I can use it again. So thanks again!
Thank you for this! This is a clear example of planned obsolescence. I have the same problem on mine after 2.5 years. And before that on the Evolve 65 I had the problem that the cushions dissolved and fell apart after around the same time. And this is for a premium company
The 65 is worst XD mine is broken now just where they pivot, is impossible to fix because is all glued or melted, I have 2 ways to do it and that is make the entire enclosure or break it to full open that and rebuild later. I think I go to take the second option and make the pin from metal.
This happened with mine exactly after 2,5 years. Coincidence? I don't think so. The company has really good planned, that their premium headset breaks just after warranty is over. I hate when this happen, but this seems to be planned. Due to that nearly 100% working headphones for a lot of money enter garbage pile...
Great video, very skilful. The reason for the planned obsolescence can be seen at 20:24: The black mic wire has to pass and bend around one of the inner posts with the screw in it each time the boom is moved. This is what causes the stress and the mic wire to break. As a permanent remedy I would recommend to cut this one post away and use only 2 of the 3 screws. And; keep as much length of the black mic wire as possible. And finally: take care about the two loudpeaker wires. I admit, I messed it up on this side...
Thank you for the Video! I got mine working again! I didn't want to glue something on the microcontroller and solder on it, so I just used shrinking tubes on each wire and one to shrink all together. Than I used new hot glue to fix it on the housing.
Once you get inside, there are 7 screws you can remove. Make sure to remove only the 3 you need (check the video, it's clear there). The other 4 screws loosen the microphone assembly from the headphone chassis, and getting it all in correct position to be able to screw it back on is not easy.
Thank you for the video. At 1:28 I'm really struggling to open up the other side. Is there a picture of the mechanism holding the other side or some more details? I can't get this other side open. I have trying with it for the last 15 minutes.
Have done it another way. I had only two thicker wires, that did not fit the one hole together. So i used one of the srew holes to put my cables from the back to the front. I had no board connector, so i put the wires together with solder and isolated the spots with two shrink hoses. does not look very pretty but it works. thanks for this vidoe. the work took me round about two hourse. the most tensing part was two find the tiny little red wire inside the microphone cable. that was a real heart surgery... Short notice: bought this headset nearly 3 years ago.
Thank you, I will try this fix. My headset is just 2.5 yrs old and as with the others, without any warning it quit working. This is a design flaw and the manufacturer should replace the headsets at no cost. Bad Jabra reputation with this model.
Thank you for this. It was very helpful. In my own case the PVC sheaf was worn but the wire wasn't broken so assume the exposed wire was shorting. I glue gunned the wire in the hole and glued to pcb and all still working a week later. (So didn't need to do bread board pcb and rewire.)
Man, I tried this, but messed it up hard -- I really appreciate this video, though. Shows all the details of what to do, though I wish I understood what I broke. Now the "muted/unmuted" doesn't work as well as it used to AND the microphone picks up nothing -- I assume I connected something incorrectly. Tried hard, though! Must've been on the inside when I had to solder them to the board. I used heat shrink to join the wires to the boom on the other side, and I think I did that well. Just didn't work on the other side. :(
could it be the part at 17:32 when seperating the wires ? i feel like this part is the only tricky part that if you missed a simple single small wire among the hundreds, the signal (microphone audio or mic control) will be badly mixed and leads to unexpected result.
Thank you sir - it did not come apart or go back together very well but in the end my problem is fixed. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video.
Brilliant details. Thank you so much! In my case, I did not use a breadboard to connect the two sets of cables, as the cables from the microphone was too short. I used some alien tape (which is very sticky, soft, double sided tape) to provide isolation of the termination but then be able to stick it directly onto the circuit board, giving just enough cable for the boom mic to move (it was still 'tight'). This arrangement from Jabra is the poorest design I have seen for a long time or, it is designed to fail after a given period - pretty poor Jabra for $200 headset! Also, at the 18 minute mark on the video, RTechRepair shows the separation of the microphone cable. In my case, there was a red'ish cable and bare copper cable (seem easier to separate than in the video). I twisted the bare copper together but had to carefully with a knife, clean the red insulation off, before being able solder the wires together. I think my repair is fair, may get another 6-8 months before I suspect the mic cable will break at the join due to the tightness. Hey, it was good to get this done and great video again!
Which Screw Driver you have used to open to screw (T4/T5/T6 or something else) for Jabra Evolve 75.? Any link for good screw driver which I can get from Amazon.?
Hi and thanks for a great video! I was wondering if you could help with a solution for them becoming too easy to rotate, it seems super flimsy to me. Thanks!
Man That’s a great video but must have the right tools. Should we open up after about 2 yrs and exam it and try to hot glue around the hole where the wire go through to prevent rubbing and completely break it. Preventive right after warranty over.
Thank you for the video, i was able to fix it with the instructions. i just added two new little long wires and added fluid tape on the hole for it to survive.. if it breaks again probably i will do your method.. I can use it now.
They must've tried to fix this in later versions of the 75. I have one where the hole that wire passes through is actually filled with an adhesive to hold the wire in place. However the wire instead broke on the other side of the PCB where it's fixed by the glue. Ultimately this design with the loose wire being pulled back and forth every time you drop/raise your mic is just not very robust.
Maybe you could give me a hint what cable you used. Mine is 0,08mm² and on the outside possibly something around 1mm in diameter. So I can get one of those through the hole but not a second one. I also tried to find a way to pass the PCD on the side, which seems to be impossible...
I used an old phone cable and pulled conductors from that. I had to bore out the hole a little with a dremel tool. Looking at the PCB I didnt suspect multiple layers, just double sided. I inspected both sides and there was ample ground around the area and decided to give it a go. They have some really fine metal dremel grinding bits just be careful not to let it jump and hit the nearby resistor or you'll need to deal with that.
Thx. Althoug the part with the extraction of the speaker is a little foggy, I had shaking hands as well, everything went ok. I wonder how long it‘ll work. Would be nice to see someone to exchange the entire wire up to the microphone.
What do you expect? They want to sell another headset after 3 years. That’s modern business. They have inserted this weakness deliberately. By now all big companies have this strategy. There is no way to buy devices that are built to last for a long time. Before watching this excellent video, I thought that I were able to fix it. But this is all too small. I would have to buy new equipment and maybe destroy it anyway… Now I just buy a new one.
Hello everyone ! Quick question : my welding seems not working, no electricity going cable to cable. Are you using a specific tin ? Are the orange and red cable covered with something i need to remove ? Thanks
Hi! New to soldering so sorry if this is a stupid question. At 4:48 where you show where the friction damage happened; couldn't you just repair it there?
You want to anchor the wire from the mic movement prior to passing through the pcb. Otherwise you're in this boat again after some use. Anchoring the wire to the top of the smaller chip is a perfect solution. Only thing I'd do differently from the video is pre-populate the small pcb insert that is used to anchor the wire with the solder balls, then glue it in place. keeps you from having to worry about any glue pushing through.
The cable where the friction damage has occurred is not broken but the insulation between the two cables is damaged. Therefore this fix of introducing two other cables and soldering it to the original cables. Just soldering the original cables at the damaged spot won't help.
I´m having problems with the stage at 1:04. Can´t understand how I´m supposed to release the "hook" under det loop?? Are you pressing hard and turning or what? Using The Force?? Seriously frustrated about how easy it looks. Otherwise great tutorial :)
@@pablonunez4397 I actually managed to release the hook. Just jiggled it back and forth and pressed it down at the same time, like the guy shows in the vid. Thought it would break, but it was ok. Good luck!
Just open it a little further there is a "little"latch on it what locks in a hook. also when reassembling you need to put it almost at 45 degree to place it back.
Does this video help? it is with the Evolve 65 and person takes the outer cover off to then push the cover off from the inside: ruclips.net/video/_ooYvIwPdkg/видео.html
i cannot get the first compartment off .... unscrewed the very first screw, but the part won't come off. and from the video I cannot see, what to do. fear to break it. any hints?
Let me give you a hint; When you open the Headset, right after removing the first screw, MIND HIS WARNING! I ripped of the connection of the Headphone part...both cables. Have to resolder. The mechanism however is perfectly fine. Don't be like me...;)
And additional to that: The headphone part has 2 cables but 4! connections! And I have no idea where I shall connect which cable...seems I have to throw that thing away after all.... Or does anyone know of some solution? I am really out of ideas now. Stupid me...
It's not mandatory, you can heat up a piece of metal with a lighter and use it to melt the glue in place. As for removing it, you can scoop it out with a piece of sharp plastic.
I love my JE75 headset! Sucks that this wire breaks at exactly 2 years. My office replaced it with a Jabra 85h which is more expensive but I hate it. It squeezes your head and it lacks the boom mic. The boom mic is what's excellent about the 75. Also, you can use it with 3 devices at once (one with the 370 dongle, one on bluetooth and one by wire.) Anyone able to recommend something different? Maybe there's another excellent mic out there? I'll try the soldering work, but I don't know that I'll succeed, so I want a fallback plan... Thanks!
My cheap hotgun, on its lowest setting, was more powerful than anticipated. Half of the plastic encasement melted. So now I'm two experiences richer: 1) Don't buy Jabra 2) Don't skimp on the tools. I really liked my headset until the microphone failed.
I wasn't too confident with repairs, so I had my neighbour fix it for me (I mentioned this video to him, great guy). However, I think he must have tripped another issue while fixing and he can't figure it out. The boom mic no longer says unmuted/muted when you swing it up or down. Anybody know what mechanism I can look at that might fix this issue? I can't see a physical switch that might point to the issue. Is there something I'm missing?
There is a small golden ribbon cable routed from the spinny mechanism of the microphone (can be seen in the video thumbnail), maybe he forgot to connect it or he did not place it right, and the small button is not making contact well.
Might have been nice to explain how to unhook the opposite side of the earpiece after removing the first screw instead of the pointless music, but oh well. I can see you wiggling it for quite some time, then it eventually just comes apart. There is another other video that does have someone talking but he doesn't really explain it either, he just says angle it to unclip it, then he skips ahead past it. I don't want to break the clip and it would be nice to have one video actually explain that part so I don't break it.
Use this video for teardown, Remove the whole PCB from housing (if possible remove all connected wires, make sure you take a picture before), then use any other "replace micro-usb" videos from RUclips.

1min 23sec - I’m struggling to take it off and don’t want to break it! Isn’t there an easier way? My on/off button just slides, doesn’t stick so therefore doesn’t work anymore unless it’s wired in! Can anyone help me please???
as so many mentioned here, the life of this microphone wire is 2 to 3 years... It is a faulty design... For such a costly device it is not acceptable...
Anyone knows where I can fine the small pin button that puts your headset on mute or unmute whenever you lift or lower your microphone? You can see it at "11:55" the the one attached to the orange foil, near the silver ring.
I got one... they are piece of **. after less than I year the mic start to mute and unmute by itself and the power button start to misbehave and powers on the headset while its off.
I took mine some evolve 75 to repair the charging port, but the technician screwed up the microphone, now it is useless and loose, since he doesn't want to take responsibility, so I repair them myself.
Hi Sanat, thank you for writing. However, I found a friend with necessary equipment, bought some beer and fixed it together 🙂 It was not as difficult as I expected. Good luck!
Yea tried this on my first one- broke it more- bought a used one and the same damn thing just happened again. So annoyed!!! Anybody wanna fix it for me? lol So cal
Hello @radu mihai.. can share your contact since i also have same problem but dont have any skill at all to fix it. Perhaps you can help to fix mine with cost involved of course. Thanks

easy to replace cushions with better quality on amazon for the 65, but for the 75 ... no ribbon cable ... it's a joke from jabra :(

What gauge wire did you use? I tried 30 awg and it was too big.
What size are the two wires you pass through? A single 22 Guage wire takes up the entire hole.

what kind of glue is this? i'd really like to use this on my projects and buy it somewhere.

I used 2 wires from a CAT5 ethernet cable. I applied some gentle pressure to bore out the hole a bit with a razor blade in order to fit both cables.
Thx. Althoug the part with the extraction of the speaker is a little foggy, I had shaking hands as well, everything went ok. I wonder how long it‘ll work. Would be nice to see someone to exchange the entire wire up to the microphone.
What's the secret for that part though? Will I feel when I can pull it?
Is the pcb connected via soldier where you connected it, or is it just use as a barrier between the moving and non moving wires?
How long after this problem occurred to you? Mine after 3 years...wasn´t expecting this on a $300 headset kit
Same here. I had the headset for about 3 - 3.5 years and the cable just broke. Definitely a shortsighted design decision.
What do you expect? They want to sell another headset after 3 years. That’s modern business. They have inserted this weakness deliberately.
By now all big companies have this strategy. There is no way to buy devices that are built to last for a long time.

My on/off button just slides, doesn’t stick so therefore doesn’t work anymore unless it’s wired in!
Can anyone help me please???
Can someone please tell me how he glued the breadboard?? Crazy glue?
as so many mentioned here, the life of this microphone wire is 2 to 3 years... It is a faulty design... For such a costly device it is not acceptable...
Can someone guide me which screw driver i need to use please?

Anyone knows where I can fine the small pin button that puts your headset on mute or unmute whenever you lift or lower your microphone? You can see it at "11:55" the the one attached to the orange foil, near the silver ring.
after fix the microphone I can't connect headset by bluetooth.
I got one... they are piece of **. after less than I year the mic start to mute and unmute by itself and the power button start to misbehave and powers on the headset while its off.
Please tell me screwdriver name or size
I used a Torx #5 for the ouside screw & Torx #6 for the 3 inside.
I took mine some evolve 75 to repair the charging port, but the technician screwed up the microphone, now it is useless and loose, since he doesn't want to take responsibility, so I repair them myself.
Same issue on my headphones. Is there anybody in Europe who can fix it for me (for money of course)?
