16:25 No, you are wrong. You seem young and ill-traversed, let's say. The world is not America. You don't negotiate with terrorists. This film does give us a heart for the antagonist. General Francis X. Hummel. One of the best villains of all time, because he is not evil. An action film in the 90's with Bond in America, with a great villain. Of course peps love this film
YES!! One of my favorite action movies as a kid! There were talks of a Sequel, but it was cancelled as Sean Connery, RIP, retired from acting, Nicolas Cage was too busy working on the National Treasure movies and Michael Bay was too busy working on The Island, BAD BOYS 2, and TRANSFORMERS.
Apparently Connery's experience filming "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" was so bad, he refused to act full-time anymore. I've always held a minor grudge against the director Stephen Norrington because of that, although truth be told, Connery was probably on his way out anyway.
If you fancy yourself a journey of Sean Connery begin with the early James Bond movies, The Presidio and end with his Oscar winning performance in 'The Untouchables' .
This film is such an adrenaline rush. Watched it countless times because it did everything right with a action movie blockbuster. Same feeling i have when i rewatch a Diehard film.
That part at the start in the gas chamber was the most scary to me , all that tension , and telling him to put that big as! needle into his heart , yikes, double yikes !!!! I hate needles and any medical procedures they freak me out totally !!
Honest! $100 million was more in the '90s than it is now. But it's about the principle that if you pay a ransom to a terrorist organization. others could come and ask for money because you know the government is paying. I love Michael Bay! He's a great popcorn director!
Well considering the money is from illegal arms trading WITH foreign terrorists nobody would know. It doesn’t exist because Congress doesn’t know about it. The reason they wouldn’t negotiate is because the government would have to admit that they let soldiers die for nothing. That they, the government fucked up.
Right!, never negotiate with terrorists. Sidebote: I use to be a corrections officer and we had to sign a form agreeing that if there was ever an uprise by the inmates and we were taken hostage that under no circumstances would they ever pay money or ever agree to release a prisoner to save our lives. Basically, we would die. The main reason is, if they did it once, then it would set a precedent and weaken the entire pineal system, knowing they could gain power and control by killing or threatening to kill an officer. You know I really enjoy this channel aa well as a few other reaction channel but it has become abundantly clear that there is a huge lack of understanding of the real world works and why. Their saying he's a good man and he just killed a bunch of American soldiers that he claimed to love and represent. Or and I forgot about the innocent American civilians.
Really?!..A forgotten and trampled honor doesn't cost $100 million within the country?!And this not from budget!!.. The main terrorist are politicians!!!
I think the major reason for "The Rock" being so good is a long pre-production period which gave the actors a lot of time for rehearsal and time to perfect the script with input from the actors. It was Nicolas Cage's idea that Stanley Goodspeed doesn't swear. That's why we get so many creative expletives from Goodspeed.
General Hummel was a good man with an honorable cause. But he made two grave mistakes, One: On a mission like that you need a crew you can completely trust but in addition to his long time team he brought other marines with whom he worked for the first time. Two: If you expect your men to show unwavering loyalty, trust, and sacrifice, then you must inform them of all aspects of the operation and hide nothing from them. Hummel knew that even this "small" amount of only one hundred million would probably not be paid, since it would have fatal consequences for an incumbent government to negotiate with terrorists.
I see lots of people not understand why they don't pay the ransom. If they just pay it essentially signals to everyone "hey if you can come up with a good enough hostage situation, you can milk a lot of money out of the government because they will pay" and invites more hostage situations like this. Better to do as much as you can without paying, to send the message that this will not work out for anyone thinking of trying to do the same, rather than risk more people endangering innocents because you rolled over and gave the terrorists what they want to take the easy way out in the short term. Of course that has nothing to do with whether the terrorists might be kind of right, in this case it was very arguably a righteous cause but regardless of the cause and them paying being probably the right thing to do it will still essentially show that all you need is enough leverage to get the government to make you rich.

I just realized that Sean Connery's character Mason made the worst possible gift to Stanley Goodspeed when he gave him the film roll with all the US government's dirtiest secrets. They would put Stanley and his wife in prison just like they did with Mason because of their knowledge of all that highly classified information.
Hey you guys. Great reaction as usual. I am ex combat arms military and they do deserve the money. The issue is that we don't negotiate with terrorists. If you give in to hostages today, you will have 100 more terrorists tomorrow. Also, if that was SEAL Team Six, it would have been a short movie.

One of the greatest things about this movie is that VX gas really exist 😊 sure it doesnt melt your skin off ,but everything else checks out lol 😃 was suppose to be a pesticide but was to powerful 😅 so they made it a weapon instead 😂
And this movie's plot with the VX gas was the basis for the British MI6 to believe and rely on regarding Iraq's WMD program which also eventually led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Internet theory: Johan Mason is a fake name. His real name is Bond, James Bond. The British left Bond rott in jail because they wouldn't admit he was working for them. Actually, I really like the idea.
David Morse and Ed Harris are an incredible team. You really buy that they've known each other for decades.

This, and Faceoff I think are Nick Cage’s best acting roles. Some of his work is a little overboard and over acted, but there are still some gems like Moonstruck. I know this is a unpopular opinion but I LOVE ConAir. Most people think it’s trash, but it’s a cult classic that I watch every chance I get.
Are you guys sure you like movies? Rocky, Rambo, Indiana Jones and now the rock. All first time watches? How?
I absolutely love some of the one liners from this movie
Another Nicholas Cage film suggestion: Con Air
Where’s The Rock at?
"The Rock" is the nickname for Alcatraz prison in San Francisco. It's in the middle of the Bay, so that's why it's called the rock.
Should check out the 2000’s “Italian Job” movie remake underrated gem.
24:43 This is the man you follow
DOUGRAY SCOTT got noticed by TOM CRUISE in the Welsh movie TWIN TOWN it's a cult classic in the UK it cost 1.7 million to make in 1997 it's 1 of my favorite films I watch it a couple of times a year. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it
I forgot to mention that it's been uploaded to RUclips so you can watch it for free. I watched I BOUGHT A VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE on RUclips a couple of day's ago and it was just as good as I remembered
Yessss. So many great one liners!
Entrapment with Sean Connery is awesome also
I love the ending part, the seperation way
The best movie of Michael Bay.
Do not miss the movie FACE OFF, which is the other great classic action movie by Nicholas Cage
Entrapment is another good movie with an older Sean Connery in it. I had a quick look and can’t see any results for it on RUclips.
5:00 Thank you. a great question.
Volume warning 34:25 , especially headphone users. That one hurt.
Actually, you can hold someone without trial, apparently. We're doing quite a bit of that today.
When it comes to incredible voices, Morgan Freeman is up there with Sean. I need to see if he’s done any reading for audio books.
Note: Sean Connery was first offered the role of Gandalf in Lord of the Rings but turned it down.
Interesting that Steph said Sean Connery looked like Gandalf and if i'm not wrong he was the first choice to be the wizard but refused.
FYI, since the channel didn't show us. Sean Connery plays Mason, a British MI6 and SAS agent ;) This is Bond before Bourne was hot.
Yes, Bourne is said to have shaped later Bond. But... 0 0 Who came first 7
You can't hold someone without trial? Have you ever heard of a little place called Guantanamo Bay?
Entrapment Sean Connery Catherine Zeta-Jones amazing movie
If you haven't yet, please watch The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent because it is AWESOME!
I just realized that Sean Connery's character Mason made the worst possible gift to Stanley Goodspeed when he gave him the film roll with all the US government's dirtiest secrets. They would put Stanley and his wife in prison just like they did with Mason because of their knowledge of all that highly classified information.
Hans Zimmer writes the best music. The score is half the movie.
29:19 There is no Superman, No Thor, No Ironman
I watched Face off, Con Air and this movie for the first time all in one day.
How about you two watch “the league of extraordinary gentlemen” the movie that had Sean Connery finish doing live action.
Fun fact, Connery was considered rill for Gandalf
11:18 What you Forget, He his not Bond
He is SAS, elite tier 1 unit and MI6 = Bond. To Americans at this time, a unicorn
My two other favourite Nicolas Cage movies are Lord Of War (2005) and Matchstick Men (2003)! ✌🏼
If you liked Sean Connery in this, I highly recommend CinePals look into the James Bond franchise for future movie reactions!
guys did you know there is a hindi remake of this film called qayamat; city under threat by ajay devgn, suniel shetty, arbaaz khan, sanjay kapoor, riya sen. it was a good film
One of my most fav movies
Nice to see this movie making a comeback.
It's funny u said he looked like Gandalf because he was offered the part first and he turned it down.
