    As far as the SEAL team leader essentially putting himself and his team in a no win scenario? If he surrendered, now Hummel has more hostages. I also look at it like this. Michael Biehn, the team leader, gave that speech hoping to maybe convince the Marines to change their mind. Also, if him and his men are dead, they can't be leveraged as hostages. Also, if by some MIRACLE they maybe managed to kill Hummel in the ensuing gunfight, maybe the other marines would have stopped with no leadership? Wild conjecture I know but I always saw the scene as a no win scenario. Maybe he knew the marines were going to kill them anyway if they were willing to break their oaths to take a whole entire city hostage.

    • @KHAOE1
      @KHAOE1 Год назад +5

      I just thought that they took that oath to die defending their country at all costs and so they did. The young one as well. He didn't want to be the one who the brass would probably think "chickened-out" on the fight because he was the only one who came back alive.

    Michael Bay's 2nd film sandwiched between Bad Boys (1995) & Armageddon (1998). The first of the Nicolas Cage 90s action trilogy followed by Con Air & Face/Off the year after. One of the many Die Hard scenario movies of the 90s along w/ Speed, Air Force One, Cliffhanger, Broken Arrow, etc... The best thing about this though is that it feels like a crossover between three main characters: Goodspeed, Mason, & Hummel. Each of whom can easily carry their own prequels.

    I think the fact the main villain actually had a sympathetic cause was an interesting and smart choice. He wasn't a bloodthirsty killer, just a misguided good man who wanted some justice for the families of the soldiers who served under him. Evil baddies are generally a dime a dozen, and often forgettable. But when you can empathize with the villain, it can deeply enrich a story.

    I do like that Michael bay was getting yelled at by the studio and Sean Connery told them he was going a good job and to back off. The studio backed off after this and let him create his movie.

    The going theory amongst fans of this movie. Is Mason is James Bonds real name. That at the end Connery's run. The UK decides to retire him and basically let's the US bury him and assign a new person to the Bond persona.

    Great movie. You should see Sean Connery in The Name Of The Rose (Still as an old man) beside his James Bond movies . Also Nick Cage has some great movies beside Con Air and Face Off. movies like The National Treasures movies (Which are both great), Snake Eyes a great thriller. 8 mm a really dark and powerful movie. The Sorcerer Apprentice a really great fantasy comedy movie.

    Another great reaction from you guys! Would you two consider reacting to a couple fantasy/adventure movies from the '80s? I'm not sure if you to have already seen these, but they were my top favorite '80s films during my childhood. First one is the Neverending Story, and the other is the Labyrinth starring David Bowie and he even wrote the music for that film as well, GREAT soundtrack!

    Only two of the SEALs in the shower scene were actors, ALL of the others were active duty SEALs from SEAL Team Six. They argued there was NO way SEALs would go into such a bad location, but Michael Bay argued it was needed for the movie. They went ahead and did the scene, then promptly left the set. Every one of them was piss mad.

    LOL I love how you guys reacted to this phone. Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage work so well off of each other with their sarcasm and action antics. I know how you feel about the shower scene room. Along with the speech before. Speech wasn't meant to hype them up, it was too humble his man because they had an attitude going in like they were badasses that couldn't be touched. They were going after men who had anywhere from fifteen to thirty years more experience than them wanted them to understand not to go in thinking it was going to be easy. Now the speech in the shower room was his ridiculous way of trying to convince them that he had respect for what they were fighting for but you sell your soul to the government basically as a patriot to defend this country no matter what. Yeah I didn't go along with that idea either. There were actually a lot more scenes cut from the them being picked off but this is what ended up with a film focusing on Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. Still holds up as a classic film

    In the morgue, you can see the shift back and forth between them. In the firefight, Stanley cowers and is overwhelmed while Mason is in his element, he's been killing bad guys since he was a pup probably. As soon as the shooting stops and the defusing stars, Mason is somewhat timid in the face of such a colossal agent of destruction, and Stanley is cool and commanding as he is in _his_ element.
    Stanley owns what seems to be a fairly classic car at the end of the movie, even if it is in rough shape. So I wonder if he wasn't a car guy in his younger days and so knows how to handle himself behind the wheel.
