I hope so too Jerry. The truly sad part is that the average age of viewers on my channel are between 55-65 years old. I appreciate you watching. Thank you
Took up the sport at 66. 72 now and my first traps were presents. 3 Bridger #3 double long springs. I've built a setter but am working to perfect it. (May take a rebuilt) Anyway, rastling them is more effort than I want now. This was the perfect info I needed. Thanks and keep 'em coming. 🙃
Another good one! Thanks for the explanation of why I sometimes have trouble setting some of my traps. From the start I’ve just always favored long spring traps, any size. I’ve center swiveled some of them, yea it adds a level of difficulty to setting. But after watching this video, with your reason for staying ol’ school with the chain mount, makes sense. Hadn’t really thought about it that way. As always thanks for mentoring us, stay safe out there!
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 I’ve been learning things from you for some time now. Always good common sense stuff. I owe most of my success to you. Your beaver sets are making me a popular guy, just flat out love making them! Understanding why I should do things is what separates your videos from the rest of the pack!!
Dale, I like seeing you hold that spring down with your leg. I do the same thing when setting my big coil springs for beaver. I have some of the old CDR 7.5 traps that are pretty stout. With the type of setters that really just extends the length of the spring arms, I can set those traps with one hand. With the trap on my right knee tilted a little bit to the left, put the left side setter behind my left knee and then all I have to do is push down with my right hand on the right side setter and that kind of rolls the trap over and depresses both sets of springs at the same time.
Another good video Dale, I’ve been adding to my number 11 DLS traps, they are very versatile. I’ve opted for a larger pan and replaced the twist link with numerous 2 machine chain and an added swivel giving 4 swivel points like you had suggested in a previous video. Can’t wait for the upcoming season. I’ve made a lot of needed modifications hope it pays off.
@@maxpinson5002 my k9 sets have 7 swivel points, it’s just something I hadn’t considered for smaller target animals. But I honestly never cared for the twist link chain.
Good advice. Just me- I now weld a baseplate on every foot trap I get that does not have one. Took me a while to figure out about the frame flex and how bad it kicks you in the teeth. You can buy flat stock at the hardware store and cut some out, or trim some length off a commercially offered base plate and weld it on. I like to put a small bead on the frame and cross frame junction as well Thanks for the video
Thanks for another great video! I have been leary about getting longspring traps from yard sales but think I'll pick some up and try them this fall, mostly #14's with teeth for beaver. Around here they say that you can't get a better beaver trap.
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 I'll be collecting them as I find them from now on!! Thanks for the input and thank you for being so hands on with your replies. I'll be making an order with you before the season starts this year.
Maybe might have helped Dale to show how to level up the pan for some newer trappers. Just a thought maybe next time. Great video as usual my Friend. PS keep the gnats down there, hate it when their out flying in your eyes.
Great video .I grew up with #11 and 2 long springs.Had to learn all those tricks the hard way. Hope them yunguns are watching.

@ferengiprofiteer9145 stay after it. And I'll do the same.
Excellent Brings back memories from when I was a kid. Struggling to set anything with 2 springs. Ugh if I ever forgot my vise grips. Lol
Yes that's right Kevin. Thank you for watching

Thank you Paul. Thank you for watching too.

Not saying that my thinking is the right way Mitch. But in my mind it makes sense. Thank you for watching

Yes sir JW I've seen guys do that before with big coils. I appreciate you explaining it to others who read this. Thank you for watching

It will Doug. I honestly believe that you're no better than your equipment. The more you do too it the better it is. Thank you for watching
Yes
Adding a good swivel is a must. A couple of kind old
timers taught me that some
years back. Best advice I ever received.

Good job simplifying it. I've seen people fight those.
So have I Jeff. I hope I explained it well enough. Thank you for watching
Thanks dale !

Oh my gosh Mike!! If you have a chance to buy 14s on yard sales you should be buying them!!! Thank you for watching

Yes I'll do that in another video soon Hoyt. I hate these gnats and the season of suck. Thank you for watching
Guys don’t underestimate the holding power of these #11. There isn’t much they don’t catch.
That's a fact Scott!! I've held everything in them. Thank you for watching
Thank you for sharing Dale! Are you going to be at the NTA?
Yes Mark I will be there. Thank you for watching
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 See ya there my friend!
Look forward to seeing y'all Mark
Not a fan of center swiveled traps. Great video!
Thank you Bill for watching
So a #11 is just a #1 with 2 springs? Never used long spring. Excuse my ignorance. Thank you.
Yes Archery first that's what it is. Thank you for watching
You should have shown folks how to set them when we were kids ! 🤣
😂 too hard for me to bend over like that anymore Otter Cat. I appreciate you watching. Thank you
With my hands, number 4s are easier than the number 1s. That's why I collected a few number 2s.
Yes I understand that completely big buds
