I really love your sketchbook compared to a lot of other calarts sketchbooks, simply because it isn't a regurgitation of perfectly finished drawings on every page. When I watched this video I could feel that you made the sketchbook and the embodiment of your personality shone though. It's no surprise you got accepted.
I was about to comment the same thing. A youtuber i follow (her name is Meppity, check her out she's amazing) also got accepted into calarts and her sketchbooks are... Immaculate. Every page is a finished piece. THIS sketchbook, however, has a much more casual atmosphere which i looove. They both have the same amount of talent, but different approaches to the sketchbook, and i love how this is a more relaxed, real feel to contrast Meppity's sketchbook of polished, finished pieces
I must say, I'm super addicted to sketchbook tour videos, specially the ones from CalArts and this one is one of the most amazing I've ever seen. Your style is incredible, I love the lines and the way you explore things. It's very noticeable how the sketchbook was for you a place for exploration and learning and not just something cute to get accepted. It leaves you speechless. You deserved to get in and I hope that you are enjoying the experience of being in CalArts and keep making this amazing art
Oof, I feel out of breath just watching this. You've worked hard! And it really shows: there is so much creativity and confidence and experimentation in your work already. I hope you slow down a bit at CalArts and enjoy your stay while you're there. Hard-working people tend to fall into a default setting of working hard. When there's no need, because you have already built such a solid base. Have fun, explore, make memories. You're amazing.
Whenever I have a streak of bad days, and I feel like I want to end everything because I don't have more strength to continue. I come to see this video, because it always encourages me :)
Hey how did you learn anatomy and gesture drawings ? I’m trying to teach myself but it’s really difficult. Did you take a class or look at stuff online ?
I basically copied a bunch of artists and practiced a lot. Copying helped me more than i thought it would. Figure drawings a tough thing to tackle, good luck!
I admire you so much! I really see your growth and I’m excited for you to develop! In high school I had the dream to apply to cal arts but I just didn’t have time to create such an expansive journal. After finishing my B.S. in kinesiology I still want to apply, but I’m old …22 …today you inspired me to keep going! Thank you
this is such a great sketchbook! i love your gestures. and just wondering, is this a moleskin? if it is, how does it hold up against paint, like acrylics or watercolor?
Hey there! Excuse me for the sequence dancing poses what’s your process for doing them? Do you watch a video and pause it and begin to draw? Or in slow mo? Do you sketch first and then ink it? Cause for being gestures they’re super clean! Thanks
Your best bet would be to watch the entire dance first, to get a feel, then watch it again (in slow mo) and then draw. If you feel nervous about it, take the time to pause after every move, but use a timer so you don't spend too much time on one pose. Sketch lightly at first, then ink.
