Affirmed won the battle on the track BUT Alydar was by far the better sire.

    AFFIRMED....OUTSTANDING TRIPLE CROWN WINNER.....!!!

I agree, Affirmed was OUTSTANDING!!!! I am a Secretariat Fan, LOVE him!!! But, I LOVE Affirmed, Seattle Slew, and ALL of the other Triple Crown Winners!!!! I LOVE Affirmed's rival, Alydar, and so MANY, MANY other Racehorses!!!!!!

@@xtbum3339, yes, he did. It was the first time, EVER, that two (2) Triple Crown Winners raced each other, which was in 1978. But, keep in mind, that Seattle Slew was (4) Four-Years Old, and Affirmed was (3) Three-Years-Old. In the world of Horse Racing, that makes a Huge difference. Also, Affirmed kept Winning against his rival, Alydar. They raced (10) Times, and Affirmed Won (7) of those races. This is why Affirmed was the 1978 Triple Crown Winner......well deserved. Seattle Slew, was the 1977 Triple Crown Winner.......well deserved. Personally, I would have loved to have seen Seattle Slew, Affirmed, and 1979 (Almost) Triple Crown Winner, Spectacular Bid, raced against each other, in 1979. Seattle Slew, would have been 5-years-old, Affirmed would have been 4-years-old, and Spectacular Bid, would have been 3-years-old, in 1979. That would have been a Great race! But, they were all OUTSTANDING Racehorses! However, Secretariat, will ALWAYS be my Favorite Racehorse, and My Favorite TRIPLE Crown Winner, which he Won in 1973!!!!

If only alydar was born a year later, he would have had a great chance against spectacular bid. if he was born a year earlier, i dont think he could have beaten seattle slew. That horse was a freak! 1979 would have seen 3 consecutive triple crown winner if alydar was born a year later than he was

i have the bloodhorse magazine of his belmont win and watched it live on T.V. but i was at belmont park june 10th ,1978 when affirmed beat alydar.(still have my $2 win ticket). went to secretariat grave at claiborne farm. visited affirmed and holy bull at jonabell farm.had a private showing of seattle slew.i could go on but because i was at the affirmed - alydar belmont it will always remain special to me.

Have to feel sorry for Alydar in his 3yr old campaign losing to Affirmed in 3 close races & their 2yr old campaign was 4-2 & I thought Alydar was the better horse BUT the Unbelievable Steve Cauthen ( The Kid ) 18yrs old rode like a seasoned jockey. That's why he was my favourite jockey when he came to England & paired up with the LEGEND Sir Henry Cecil, Steve had a clock in his head. That's why he was my favourite because he was the best jockey at riding/pacing a race. R.I.P Sir Henry 🙏 Hope Steve gets all the LUCK he deserves. Steve ( The Kid ) Cauthen =with Pat Eddery👍
