He ran 1¼ miles on a dirt track in 1 min 57.8, broke a 30-year-old record of 1'58.2" set by Hall of Famer Noor carrying under 130 pounds in 1950.Spectacular Bid’s time still stands as a record, faster than Secretariat's best time over that same distance.
His overall body of work is a testament to not only the horse's speed, but also durability and quality management Very few horses have all 3 All 3 elements come into play when it comes to great horses and their legacy
@@jm1657 He set many records and a WR, which affirmed and Seattle Slew didn't, Ron Turcotte spoke well of him, I think he could have been super horse in the right hands, I have him as Great
I wish spectacular bid would have won the Triple Crown. As a kid at that time I thought for sure he was going to the Triple Crown. You got to remember they were popping one off every other year back in the 70s. And I thought the bid was every bit as good as Seattle Slew our Affirmed. But none of them where as good as Secretariat. And I think if the bid would have won the Belmont he would have been number two or three greatest racehorse ever.
Actually Seattle Slew's race record is similar to Secretariat and Spectacular Bid's overall record is superior But they're all great horses who also threw in the (very) occasional clunker, I prefer to enjoy their best performances without getting into which one was better

Actually he Broke Swaps record 158 1/5.
All of this true, and not taking anything away from Bid, but he set that record as a 4 year old. Secretariat never ran past the age of 3.
@@aaronnarsavage3640 I didn't realize Secretariat was so immature.
Actually he Broke Swaps world record 158.1
@@aaronnarsavage3640 are trying to compare Secretariat to the Bid...that's ridiculous. Secretariat would never come within 5 lengths of the Bid
RIP my friend.
The best there ever was.

5:50 terrible call by this announcer. He said nothing as Bid passed 5 horses to go from 7th to 2nd!! Forget Blind Paster, Bid was even with him.
Truly spectacular!
If Ron Turcotte had been on board the Bid would have been a super horse as it is i have him as very good in my top 5
Bid was absolutely a Superhorse, Belmont Stakes win or not. What a career!
@jm1657 you can't compare kid Ronnie to Sir Ron
Nor buddy delp to the genius Lucien Lauren
@ a Superhorse, as I understand it, is defined by a horse’s superior ability & his won/loss record.

Franklin was a stupid young kid...complaining aboutvthe other jockeys, when he should concentrate on his own race
