This is very true. Especially when the height difference is like 2'', proportions will matter more. But ultimately at the end of the day, taller person is still taller and more popular unless proportions difference is significant.

yup, i’m 5’7 and have had two girlfriends my height or an inch taller and hooked up with plenty girls the same height or taller that didn’t mind the height. it’s always the 5’1 and below girls i’ve noticed that are more picky about height

I'm 170 cm (5'7") and my husband is just 3 cm taller than me (he's 5'8"). When I wear heels I'm much taller. In fact all I have to do is wear a shoe with a slight bit of heel to look taller. I remember seeing a study on how height matters in the workplace and how CEOs are often above average height. Our preference to choose taller people is probably a primal thing built into us which we can and often do override these days.
The CEO heights used in the stat papers are self-reported. You can find below 6ft males in leadership positions all the time, even in the States, which seems to fixate on height more than other places. Anecdotally, the wealthiest CEO I personally know is 5'7".
True attractiveness in a man comes down to multiple things: Natural looks (facial features); physique; grooming (shows that you make an effort); finding clothes that fit well and go well together and are clean and crease-free (again, it shows you make an effort); how you carry yourself, i.e., your posture and body language; intelligence; a great sense of humour; drive, as in being driven to achieve things, even if we're talking non-financial things e.g., learning a language, writing a book, learning an instrument - it basically shows you are not just going to chill out and slob around, and so it probably is to do with being a potentially good provider. Oh and a bonus point for being honest, good with vulnerable groups, and having strong ethical principles that you won't break for anyone.

I'm a 6' tall woman who likes shorter men, not exclusively, but it's kind of interesting cause it's different from me. There is this theory that when a woman is really tall, what you described will switch, because she doesn't wanna have to press out huge babies. I don't know about that.
In my experience tall women usually either don't care or like shorter men, but shorter women always seem to fangirl all over tall guys. As a tall guy (6'4) I personally don't care, but I'd say that too much of a height difference is just damn inconvenient

I'm 5'7. The tallest guy i've dated was 6'3 and I hated craning my neck to kiss him and always having to look up at him with my neck in that awk position when we were next to each other. Now I've been with a 5'9 guy for over 5 years and I've never felt more comfortable. I really do like being with someone I can "see eye to eye" with.

It comes down to protection and safety for the woman - it’s primal. Shorter women feel more vulnerable in society so they choose a much taller partner to compensate for that. Whereas taller women are less vulnerable therefore they are more willing to compromise. A 5ft woman in society is vulnerable to literally EVERYONE.. short men, average women, average men, tall women and tall men (the only exception being other short women). Whereas a tall woman, let’s say 5’10, isn’t going to feel nearly as vulnerable. She’s much bigger than the short women, she’s bigger than the short men, she’s bigger than average women, she’s roughly the same height as average men (in the west obviously) and she’s the same sort of height as other tall women.. so she’s only really vulnerable to tall men. So statistically speaking, she’s much less likely to need a man to protect her. The psychology behind it all is really interesting.

I think the correlation might actually have more to do with IQ than tall people being promoted for being tall. There is a correlation between height and IQ. The IQ is probably the major factor.

I am 5'8 and live in an European country and feel sometimes sick to the stomach of being judged "not a real man", because essentially that's laughable. Made myself fit and even if coming from a relatively poor family, I'm way above average in financials, because of hard work and proper risk taking. I absolutely crushed it the last years in all disciplines a man can do, especially if (and one shoulnd't!) compare the outcomes of my desicions to my taller male friends (all of them are taller than me or way taller). Of course I know first hand how some other people treat short men. A 6'3 friend of me for example in the club: standing there, doing nothing. Women come to him like flies, every 10 or so minutes another (usually short ;-)) woman. Life on easy-mode. Does this breed hard, capable men? I say, certainly it doesn't. So this is an example of a man, who gets handed everything for free, while the struggle for the short man is real and I am instead of complaining, proud of it, because this is what real men do and this is why I am successful, while others are mediocre! You can tell me, how I'm "compansating", but I know the truth for myself: I'm doing the best I can for me and my family. I'm getting the results and as I don't get the free meals, I will take myself what is my right to have and I certainly won't care if you like it or not and how you "feel about judging me" of "what I should have or should do or not".
The best thing is not to think about it too much. Although some countries are obsessed by it, like South Korea. Parents will put their kids on growth hormone if they are projected to reach 5'7. Being below average is associated with impoverishment and is just not acceptable. Don't know the deal is in Europe, but I remember my time in Korea constantly being reminded of being short, while in America almost nobody mentioned it, as I'm only marginally below average.

many factors are involved. A certain type of face fits better to a certain height and build but the whole of appearance and proportions are the most important.
Am 5’9 next to my friend who is 5’4 it feels pretty close. His eyes is the same level as my neck. My other friend who is 5’1 is like below my shoulders when i stood next to her. Even if i compared myself to 5’11 or 6’3 it’s not too insane. I prefer someone the same height or even shorter. The lowest i can go is 4’11 guys. I don’t really like super tall guys. Maybe like above 6 foot. It’s too tall and out of proportion. You look good when your outfit matches and so does your height. Too tall you will have skinny legs. This study dont apply to tall women. Im 5.11 and was always going for shorter guys. @37471 No, your name was 37471 on my screen. I just "averaged" your mom and dad's heights, subtracting 8 from your dad and adding 8 to your mom (giggity). It turns out you are bang on in the middle at 5'11. I don't know how this actually works, I've heard the mom's height is more relevant, but there are trends that buck this. When I see "short mom/tall dad" pairings, it seems that they usually tend toward the middle. For reference, my mom is 4'11, while my dad is 6'0. I came out at 5'10 (it was a hard birth). Only 1 inch shorter than you, despite a much smaller mom. It's possible my mom's height may have been slightly stunted, but her sisters are barely taller. I'm guessing it's just within nature to default toward the middle/average. Height is good, so maybe there's a trend to pull toward the taller dad, but only to an extent. Average is average for a reason. It's good to be average, or only slightly above it. Has it ever occurred to you that, maybe, your dad's height is actually a disadvantage at such an extreme, and nature has just done what it does and produced a more viable offspring? Actually it depends on shoulder width. Ive seen a lot of tall guys without large shoulders. Do not get in an height operation. Your shoulder width will stay same and it wont make you look attractive.

I had a very short lady friend, and she said she thought it kind of looked funny next to tall people. I have to agree on this. It is more natural to choose near your own height, or what is average height in women the guy will be best, but funny to choose someone with a giant height gap, unless the guy is basketball height, all women will be quite a bit shorter.
What I find more interesting is that people can be the same height but look completely different, some people have longer torsos, and shorter legs, and other longer legs and shorter torsos yet same height but one may look more attractive, women with longer legs at 5'4 are precieve more attractive then some one with shorter legs, and probably goes for men, as well. Michael Phelps has legs of a 5'10 but a torse of a 6'7 which makes him ideal structure to be a fish in water. We all are different body sizes, love your self we are all different.

It comes down to protection and safety for the woman - it’s primal. Shorter women feel more vulnerable in society so they choose a much taller partner to compensate for that. Whereas taller women are less vulnerable therefore they are more willing to compromise. A 5ft woman in society is vulnerable to literally EVERYONE.. short men, average women, average men, tall women and tall men (the only exception being other short women). Whereas a tall woman, let’s say 5’10, isn’t going to feel nearly as vulnerable. She’s much bigger than the short women, she’s bigger than the short men, she’s bigger than average women, she’s roughly the same height as average men (in the west obviously) and she’s the same sort of height as other tall women.. so she’s only really vulnerable to tall men. So statistically speaking, she’s much less likely to need a man to protect her. The psychology behind it all is really interesting.

That explains it! I used to think this whole height difference thing was overrated because I've always felt attracted towards short guys. I think the correlation might actually have more to do with IQ than tall people being promoted for being tall. There is a correlation between height and IQ. The IQ is probably the major factor.

I am 5'8 and live in an European country and feel sometimes sick to the stomach of being judged "not a real man", because essentially that's laughable.
Made myself fit and even if coming from a relatively poor family, I'm way above average in financials, because of hard work and proper risk taking. I absolutely crushed it the last years in all disciplines a man can do, especially if (and one shoulnd't!) compare the outcomes of my desicions to my taller male friends (all of them are taller than me or way taller).
Of course I know first hand how some other people treat short men. A 6'3 friend of me for example in the club: standing there, doing nothing. Women come to him like flies, every 10 or so minutes another (usually short ;-)) woman. Life on easy-mode. Does this breed hard, capable men? I say, certainly it doesn't. So this is an example of a man, who gets handed everything for free, while the struggle for the short man is real and I am instead of complaining, proud of it, because this is what real men do and this is why I am successful, while others are mediocre!

The best thing is not to think about it too much. Although some countries are obsessed by it, like South Korea. Parents will put their kids on growth hormone if they are projected to reach 5'7. Am 5’9 next to my friend who is 5’4 it feels pretty close. His eyes is the same level as my neck. My other friend who is 5’1 is like below my shoulders when i stood next to her. Even if i compared myself to 5’11 or 6’3 it’s not too insane. I prefer someone the same height or even shorter. The lowest i can go is 4’11 guys. I don’t really like super tall guys. Maybe like above 6 foot. It’s too tall and out of proportion. You look good when your outfit matches and so does your height. Too tall you will have skinny legs. I’m 5’8” and most of the men I’ve dated have been that height or shorter (my husband is 5’2”). At the end of the day a good face and body is still a good face and body. Tall men are often tall and thin which isn’t my taste.

That's not true. The devils is in the detail. An AVERAGE woman would prefer an 8 inch taller man. Many tall women are less obsessed with having a much taller man, while many smaller woman might think 8 inch are not enough.

This study dont apply to tall women. Im 5.11 and was always going for shorter guys. Ended up with husband 6.7 but it was just an accident I didnt persue him, he persued me at the beggining because he felt more comfortabe not having to bend so much :D

It turns out you are bang on in the middle at 5'11. I don't know how this actually works, I've heard the mom's height is more relevant, but there are trends that buck this. When I see "short mom/tall dad" pairings, it seems that they usually tend toward the middle. For reference, my mom is 4'11, while my dad is 6'0. I came out at 5'10 (it was a hard birth). Only 1 inch shorter than you, despite a much smaller mom. It's possible my mom's height may have been slightly stunted, but her sisters are barely taller. I'm guessing it's just within nature to default toward the middle/average. Height is good, so maybe there's a trend to pull toward the taller dad, but only to an extent. Actually it depends on shoulder width. Ive seen a lot of tall guys without large shoulders. Do not get in an height operation. Your shoulder width will stay same and it wont make you look attractive.

I had a very short lady friend, and she said she thought it kind of looked funny next to tall people. I have to agree on this. It is more natural to choose near your own height, or what is average height in women the guy will be best, but funny to choose someone with a giant height gap, unless the guy is basketball height, all women will be quite a bit shorter.
What I find more interesting is that people can be the same height but look completely different, some people have longer torsos, and shorter legs, and other longer legs and shorter torsos yet same height but one may look more attractive, women with longer legs at 5'4 are precieve more attractive then some one with shorter legs, and probably goes for men, as well.
