@@anaelivillarreal8830 I don’t think so at this point :( unless there’s an injury I believe thats the only way. I knew they should have chosen Myk for the all around.
Tom had no strategy when selecting this team. He arrogantly believed the US would win no matter what because of Simone, so he didn’t bother trying to select the highest scoring team. That was a huge error. The 2 individuals were looking more consistent than most people on the actual team. This just proves how wrong he was. Simone is one person, and is human, and cannot guarantee the team a gold medal by herself. The rest of the team also has to be capable. We need everyone on the team to be consistent as well. Team USA has lost that.
I still think Mykayla should have been on the quad team and McCusker in the specialist spot. I love Grace but Mykayla will score higher. Sure...Simone made UB finals but with the other competitors she won't make top 3...at least with McCusker there is a chance for a double medal with Riley and Suni
I really don’t want to jinx anything, but the fact that Jordan’s mom is turning herself in to federal prison the day of the team final can definitely play a huge mental factor for jordan… and not to mention the pressure of already performing poorly during prelims. If I were Tom, I would highly consider swapping out Mykayla for Jordan for team finals. I think it’s too much of a gamble considering Russia has a big cushion on bars and USA doesn’t have much of an edge on vault besides simone.
Rebeca Andrade in second place at All Around is a victory for anyone who has THREE KNEE SURGERIES. Brazil does not value gymnastics as much as the Americans. Here we don't have colleges like UCLA that have gym competitions all the time. We Brazilians feel victorious knowing that a gymnast, even not receiving as much recognition as Americans, Russians, Belgians, manages to get the second highest place in All Around.
@@usagtea8072 And it's in final of Vault and Floor! We are very happy! Now we are apprehensive about the problem with Flavia. She had a problem with her ankle. But she will have a week and a half to try to recover for the Beam final!
Congratulation to Rebeca! I think it is phenomenal for her and Brazil! As and American, I salute her hard work and her heart for the sport and wish her every success!
I'm rooting for Rebecca and Flavia. They're both tough women who have gone through so much, yet keep becoming stronger. Rebecca should win AA, it will be groundbreaking
All this talk about how Marta would have done a better job is making me so freaking angry! NOTHING is worth abuse. No gold medal in the world is important enough to allow years of sexual abuse. Do I think Tom was right with picking this team. No. These qualifications were a slap in the face. A much needed one. I truly truly hope the USA will pull it together and preform to their actual best abilities in the TF! And one other thing, Jade is a LEGEND! I am so happy she had the meet of her life! She and her dad showed all of team USA what SMART training can achieve.
I agree on the first part of your statement. However you have to take other things into consideration. 1. Jordan has never been on a world team, and her mom is being escorted to prison so you can't imagine what's going through her mind. 2. Simone, she was off and there is no justifying that. She still placed pretty well. Mykayla. If mykayla was on the team, she most likely would have been a huge help and put team usa in first. Same thing with jade carey. I think it was poor planning by Tom Forester.
Personally I would have switched out Jordan for Myk. Why? Myk has international/Olympic experience, and Jordan has zilch. Now I know Jordan has the issue with her mom and yes it likely affected her gymnastics simply because she does not have the experience to know how to not let it rile her.
See I don’t see the actual team being over confident. I think it’s the media portraying them as not humble. Yes, they are the reigning Olympic champs BUT gymnastics is never a sure thing. Anyone at any time can make a mistake as we saw with USA. I knew this Olympics was going to be a hard one because of all the changes and all the stuff that has happened. I don’t feel this is our strongest possible team to be honest. I support them and will cheer for them. Based on the little I saw, if Jade and maybe Myk had been on the team the team score would have been higher. BUT it is what it is and I will be cheering for them during team finals.
I absolutely agree with this. The media loves dramatic narratives that play fast and loose with reality. It's been a hard road to these olympics on so many levels that if anyone thinks anything is a sure thing and only gold medals matter, I can only shake my head. I didn't totally agree with team picks either but I want them to perform well. I am not going to get caught up with the rampant catastrophizing of the US or denigrating talented gymnasts on the US team or others. Lets just see what happens...
Please stop speculating about who should have been on the team. It is irrelevant at this point and is fast becoming toxic. If you look at the combined scores from trials, this team is capable of winning. There's no need in going on for the next 3 years about how well Mykayla would have done, when she could have easily fallen on the same skill she fell on multiple times the past few competitions. She did well to get elected to make an appearance as an individual. If you talk about anything, it should be about how she should have made a final or how someone who could make a final should have been in her spot. Instead, she's being promoted when she's incapable of doing well in the position she's in. As far as Jade goes, she and her dad made their decision 4 years ago. I seem to have heard a lot of talk about her achieving 2nd place behind Simone and competing AA. That didn't happen, and yet people are wanting to promote her to a team position as well. Jade and her dad made their bed. They have to lay in it.
All of this, exactly. Based on last night's scores, if Jade had been the fourth member we would have beat Russia by a whisker. I'm sure Tom has done that math, and has big egg on his face now. (Myk's scores would have increased the score by a little overtwo tenths, not enought to beat Russia in quals, but those tenths could really matter in the team comp. Even if you rule out Jade entirely because of the individual spot, the calculation was always that Myk's vault scores would help the team more than Grace's, but Tom decided that a few tenths didn't matter. Which is crazy.)
@@mjamitche5245 International judging is more strict than American judging, so you can't use trials scores to prove anything. That said, I do think they're capable of winning, but they have to be on, and that remains to be seen. I also don't think you can blame people who felt very strongly about the team choice, when their opinion was really vindicated last night by both Myk's and Jade's performances. People do need to move on, but a) it just happened, people are going to have their reactions, and b) the one person that shouldn't move on is Tom, because he really made some bad calls and needs to learn from them. As far as "Myk could have easily fallen on the same skill she fell on multiple times the past few competitions," she hasn't fallen once since before US Championships. She had a few very uncharacteristic falls early in the season, but so did literally everyone except Jordan. Myk is known for hitting when it counts, and is known for almost never falling in competition. Yes, of course, anything can happen in the end (for example, Myk's vault landings last night were a little worse than usual, right when it counted), but that is true for absolutely any team you create, and isn't a reason not to make the best team you can!
This team is not the reigning Olympic champions, they are a new group of athletes, unfair to put that pressure on them to start with. It all comes down to who is "peaking" at the right time.
Great comment, problem is that when they come home the emphasis will be on what medals were won. They can't really enjoy themselves until after the event. All the talent is there, so much to be proud of.
Amen sister! That's exactly what I said and then your comment came into view. I am so pleased to see it and to see some compassion and empathy from a supporter towards these girls, instead of seeing them as medal manufacturing process. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
At the Olympic Trials, I was aggravated how the commentators acted as if there's no way the U.S. could lose the gold. Au contraire, it would be all too easy! This year, they can't drop a low score, which makes a HUGE difference! I hope the American girls come back strong and do their very best, no matter where they end up. And I hope the American commentators will finally stop acting as if only American gymnasts are worthy of our viewing time. I want to see ALL the athletes and hear details about them!
It was a sign of things to come...Today they were beaten again. And no! You can't send team B and beat Russia. You win when you PROVE you are the best, not when you THINK you are the best. There is a big difference.
Nah Russia straight up has a great team and we gotta admit that. Saying the US had an off day, whilst maybe true, discredits just how strong these Russian girls are and thats not fair to them. Saying that I do hope the US does better in the team final, I hope Jordan gets her head together because we all know she is better than she was during qualifiers and I feel quite bad for her. Russian qualifying in first makes the whole thing way more exciting for me honestly. Also shout out to Grace for being solid af and also for being a great team player- you could see her hugging everyone after their routines and talking the routines through with them after, you could hear her giving encouragement and advice and I think that is one of the reasons she is on the team!
Can we all just congratulate and show respect? Everyone who is at the Olympics deserves to be there, no matter if they medal or finish first. It's okay that we finished 2nd, it's okay that Russia finished first. Everyone wins because they've all made it this far. It's truly an accomplishment. Let's all be unified and supportive of everyone.
At this point, I want every Olympian to return home safe and healthy. I cannot even give my best energy with the cloud of Covid spraying over this Olympiad.
TRUEEEE!!! Personally, I am just happy the Olympics are happening and athletes get to perform after training so hard for years. Many athletes also expressed their happiness and contentment at just being at the Olympics that medalling would only be an added benefit. Being at the Olympics and having the Games happen are the rewards in themselves. So yeah, super happy for all of them.
@@eiraremejeene Absolutely, they're all gold medal winners in my book. This is an accomplishment that is to be celebrated, regardless of medal status. They're phenomenal and I'm proud of every one of them.
Yes! I almost cried at her beam score. I did not understand how they could score it so low! I’m glad for Suni, Jade fought really hard and I was rooting for them both.
Yes I thought Jade would’ve edged out Suni Lee the way the rotation went! I’m glad Mykayla is going the hell hone! I don’t want a racist having no medal at all!
This is Team USA's off day, This shows that they aren't perfect and they make mistakes as well. They looked so tired and off that day, maybe still getting used to the time difference and not getting enough sleep. Hope they're going to be getting enough rest for the finals and do what they usually pull off. And I'm happy for Russia, seemingly they're starting to become a stronger team compared to their teams in recent years.
She's too cocky. She needs to simmer down. I think these and other girls ie Jade, do not trust usag at all. The Nassar stuff runs very deep. Maybe jade wanted to compete on her own for a reason. And maybe it's embarrassing for the whole world to know. Either way. These girls will get it done. Simone will pull through. But when she retires. It's gonna go down in flames the whole program for a bit. I know I don't trust my daughter training with USAG.
@@TM-ly9gy Spot on. As a former coach I can confirm that USAG is awful. In fact all the politics of the sport that get brought in unnecessarily are awful. I left because I couldn't handle it. Blatant ignorance and coaches who should never be near children.
Am I allowed to say I told you so? Too soon? Nancy Armour and her social media army bullied Jade from trying for the team. If they had her scores, they'd be AHEAD.
Jade killed it and I’m very happy for her. I think if Jade and Myk had been on the team the total would be higher and they would be leading. Jade was smart taking it slow this year. She didn’t need to do everything at the first half. Save your best for last and she has. Good for her.
@@suehayes7254 Forster thought Simone plus anyone else would be enough to win. What a fool! Marta always doubled down on her strengths. On vault alone, Forster chose 1 Cheng + 2 DTY's over 3 Chengs. Stupidity like that deserves the shame of losing to Russia.
I have a feeling they will choke. Our American announcers were saying that it doesn't matter if someone steps out of bounds during team qualifications, but it does matter. It all matters now. Plus, with their new rules of who gets to be on the team and then who gets to move on once they're there is a joke.
It’s Jason Biitch Which is why MYK should have been on the team the girl hits under pressure. Lol...This is what Tom gets for not choosing the highest possible scoring team.
My feeling is that they won't. I'm British and we don't have a chance at a team medal so I have no horse in this race, but I genuinely believe USA will win team final. I think Simone will get her jitters or whatever out of her system, Suni will be rock-solid and either Grace or Jordan, whichever event they're chosen for, will put in a better performance.
Actually, the 2012 Russian team was stronger, and the US team of this year is stronger than the 2012 one. But the girls had made some uncharacteristic errors today. Let's hope all the gymnasts perform consistently and give their best shot in the finals.
On paper Russia's 2012 team was way stronger. But today's Russian team was the most consistent in a long time. They weren't relying to just one on two gymnasts.
This team is stronger! Did you see the margin between Melnikova, Urazova and Listunova? They all hit all their routines... In 2012 it was Komova and Mustafina, this time there are 3! This team is stronger.
I was mis-proven actually, the US can definitely lose if they arent consistent, russia definitely had the meet of their lives but still its weird to see US in second, they screwed up tonight, tom forester should be out of a job regardless for his poor team choices
@@kdlee3316 because Jade didn't put up her actual routines, just some easier versions. Jade outscored Grace, Jordan and Mykayla in the AA today. She would've been the better choice. Even Mykayla, who performed better than Grace and Jordan.
@@Candyfloss701 I was really sad for Jordan because it's definitely been difficult for her in view of everything that's going on in her family. But I have to agree that Myk deserved the place on the team because besides having the experience she is more consistent than Grace or Jordan.
@@indakgalak yes! Myk is consistent and in stressful situations she can deliver solid routines and for sure having her on the team would make them rank first over Russia.
Simone almost always goes out of bounds. I don't know why people are so surprised by this. (The fact that Simone went out of bounds, not that Russia beat them in qualifications)
Simone goes out of bounds, but not the way she did in her 3rd pass during qualifications. That was uncharacteristic. She was practically off the floor. It was a much larger deduction than she normally gets when stepping out with one foot or having a small jump OOB.
@Sheron Edge Honey, you needa leave. If you personally don't like Simone, fine. But what it's not ok to do is come on this channel and spread hate comments about her.
@@potocatepetl Penalty is just for the Out of bounds (two feet). The rest of the deductions came out her E-score. She was deducted 0.8 in total for that pass.
@@moneyneeded9979 That IS the issue here. Consistency is performance overtime. They lacked consistency and that is because they did not consider performance overtime they considered performance over 2 nights.
@@moneyneeded9979 Picking the correct team would have gained us 0.233. That wouldn't be enough to beat Republic of Cheaters in quals but maybe it will in finals. if we lose by a tenth what will you say then?
The USA team just looked really off and spacey. I also feel like this team isn’t as gelled as the past 2 Olympic teams for USA. Simone is just continuing her “disappointing” performances from Trials. I love Jordan Chiles but she had virtually no international experience before heading to the Olympics. I think that there was so much internal pressure in the USA team, meaning that in there own team they were fighting each other for Olympic finals spots, that the team has just sort of deflated. I hoping that this qualifications has sort of humbled them a bit and that they get there heads screwed on straight for finals. Also, I know that this experience is unlike anything they pictured as little kids; no screaming flags, no family (you can even here after bars saying my parents are watching), this has been rough. Finally, team Russia was just better, consistent, a lot of difficulty and seemed to not be as nervy as they normally are. I think Melnikova’s personal Olympic experience has really turned her into a secure and patient gymnast. Well, at least there is going to be a real fight for gold.
agreed i think Myk or Jade should have been picked for the team because they have more international experience. also this is now down to simone to captain the team together!
Yeah... who would think that a monumental scandal, the loss of their national performance coach and training facilities, and the overall implosion of USA Gymnastics could have had an impact on this Olympic season. Go figure!
@@justlina2769 You know what, I know all the hardships that they’ve been through. I’ve been an avid gymnastics watcher for nearly 3 years. This is just my opinion on what happened in 1 competition. I have NOTHING but respect for those girls . Because, in retrospect, they really are still just girls. But they didn’t have it together on Sunday strictly in a gymnastics way. How dare you believe that I have a compete disregard for the struggles these girls have endured. But on a completely factual level, strictly in a gymnastics performance way, they were no the best. And just like you were able to leave your “opinion” here for all to read, here is my diatribe on your “opinion”
I feel like the nerves got to some of them as this is the biggest stage. Maybe this will show people that they are human and that things happen under pressure. Maybe USA should look at how they pick the team. Maybe more competition or more high pressure experience would of prepared them better
I can’t believe USA is going into the team final with 2 DTYs plus Simone on vault. Such a waste to not have Mykayla or Jade on the team. Jordan really should have brought her amanar to this olympics.
The new format this year definitely had the team feeling off. They showed up to qualifications looking nervous and missing team unity, excitement and spirit. I am not sure of the dynamics behind the scenes with coaches and staff, but something is a bit off this year.
Agree! I didn't see that usual fire from team USA. I also feel like they are missing whatever vibe Aly brought last time. Hopefully this second place finish lights that fire and they pull it out in finals.
well, everything has been different this year. I wonder how a pretty much empty arena felt; it had to be an odd competition feel. When it comes down to it, anyone can hit or miss on any night. I hope they can pull in together for finals, but the biggest concern is that every score counts - a lot of pressure on every routine. At least it will be interesting.
@@roachums123 I dont think it was just aly that brought the vibe. They had 2 vets: aly and gabby...and the freaking GOAT and the second best bar worker in the world and laurie a solid all arounder. This team is not as strong as last quad nor as consistent. The mental toughness is def missing...they all looked terrified.
I think it’s the empty auditorium. Team USA is used to big crowds and some athletes like Simone and Mykayla seem to thrive on it. I don’t think it’s ONLY the no spectators, but I don’t think it helps... I was watching the men qualifying yesterday and thinking how weird it would be as an athlete and how do you differentiate when you’re training and when it really counts.
This was qualifications for the events, that's all. Everyone starts from zero including the team. I don't know why everyone is attacking individual athletes. You have to factor in mental toughness, ability to think quickly and adjust and physical readiness. We will see the day after tomorrow how everyone is doing.
@@leykimayri Seriulously! What are you talking about? Oh, but now it's supposedly an issue? It says more about the subjective judging than the actual skills. It does a disservice to gymnastics overall.
Anyone who saw Russian nationals this year could see that team was deep and could challenge or even beat the US. I don’t have the same confidence I have in this group as I did with the last two US teams.
Whoever wins I’m gonna be very happy for. Qualifications are one thing and the girls on every team know they have to be concentrated and step up for the finals. Anything can happen.
They felt untouchable (not in a “better than everyone” way) and we thought they were, but Andrade qualifying over Suni in AA, Russia on 1st place, Ferrari ahead of Simone and Nina Derwael qualifying in 1st has proved otherwise. Besides it must be tiring for Simone to know she has the team on her back all the time if the rest fail or even if they don’t fail and maybe is catching up with her on later competitions.
It is crazy how expectations can have such a drastic impact on performance. Russia came in believing they needed their best for silver while Team USA believed any hit competition would have them leading
They thought other girls would make an average pool of scores and Simone would boost them up. In fact Russian girls brought good enough and even performance on bars, vault and floor that gave them higher average. US officials forgot that team must be a team. In Rio their "weakest" mate was a silver medalist on bars. Just for comparison.
@@queenofnevers6990 The team in Rio was unbelievable. They were a step ahead of the competition and it was undeniable. I don't think people wanted to accept there was holes in some of the routines this year and it wasn't going to be the dominance they were expecting
Say about her methods what you want, but that was Marthas doing. That team would look quite different too, cause she would have made the decisions based on math (the highest possible team score).
They were terrified of making mistakes to be honest. This year is just hard on everyone to be honest. You are correct in that we need consistency and we always had that before. I don’t like how Marta did it though because it was just flat out abusive. I think this is a transition time for our ladies with everything that has gone down. What changed is they aren’t terrified of the coordinator. They had an extra year and Jordan has never competed on the world stage before. This is her first BIG international meet. Granted Laurie H was in the same spot in 2016. So eh…had they added Jade and Myk to the team they would have had a team that had been in front of international judges a lot. Yes, Grace has been too. I know that. However, Jade and Myk have higher starts on vault. In 2012 & 2016, team USA had the lead in the beginning because of vault. That set it up and covered for some lower scores on bars. Not this year. Tactical mistake leaving Jade and Myk out. Especially since Jade killed it in qualifications.
@@JJuliaSmile I agree with you, somewhat. I think it's an absence of a strong general, the new heads are too soft because the cloud of the K's still hangs, the coaches are afraid to be publicly cancelled for abuse, and the gymnasts are probably cheating themselves and getting away with doing stuff they know an old general like Marta wouldn't approve. The U.S. team is also going through a transition. I was never as confident in this team as I was with 2016: lead by strength, experienced world talent, and a fierce junior-turned senior. This team is talent deep, but they aren't the soldiers of yesterday, and superbly lacks some key components that made the Final Five a juggernaut, and yet still USAG/SS will get time to prove themselves. @@JJuliaSmile Leanne would have been on this team if Martha was around and Riley would’ve gotten the Individual spot. Imo International judges would’ve loved Leanne
USA needs to tighten up quickly. All along they have been hyping Simone...calling her the queen and the GOAT...praising her difficult routines, etc. However what has stood out to me all along is how she does not stick her landings. She always hops back or wobbles and seems careless about it. Now she gets to Tokyo and landings are causing her major defections. Don't sleep on the competition. They are out for blood.

@@viktoriaironpride4977 You’re right! Its a tumbling contest. Nothing artistic about it. Very few gymnasts are artistic. Riley was. Cara, Suni are but thats about it. Maybe a few more. But definitely not Simone.
Although I’m American and am rooting for team USA, the narrative that America was so much better than everyone else was getting tiring and felt disrespectful, and it’s nice to see them get taken down a peg. I hope everyone is on their A game for finals so we can have a real competition for gold!
honestly same. I love the U.S as an american myself but this was also a good wake up call for the entire USAG. Hopefully they can pull together for finals. But also i feel like the U.S really thrives off of pressure so the no crowd thing has to be awkward.

but even if myk was on the team they would of still got 2nd. grace was consistent and jordan was the lowest score even if they replace jordan they still would of been second. Either way you cut it, the team is not a big of a lock without simone hitting all her performances.
It is worth noting that Simone did not pull her hardest tricks yet, and has much more difficulty that she can add. The consistency has to last both competitions, and that tends to be where Russia has often failed. Yes, historically, Americans have failed as well in the finals, but, the meet isn't over til it's over. It all starts from zero for the finals.
@@leykimayri nah if she does a YDP in the team final like the one she did in podium training, even with that big step back, she’s scoring very high. Like a 16, maybe a 15.9. It’s a 6.6 vault. @@AshleyKarys Oh I just meant when you said that "Simone can't make up that full point difference alone", she actually could because if Simone hadn't had those bad landings team USA would be in first place. @@leykimayri Simone was holding back, and therefore had too much power and her landings were all over the place. I stayed up all night watching these scores. Those judges were really on something. The standard execution score for every athlete was literally an 8.00. It was insane!! Don’t believe me? Wait and see until they post qualifications scores. On some clean routines with hardly any bobbles the e score was 7.50! Not only for Americans but for everybody! I was angry!
@@leizhang8423 I think there are judges, depending on which apparatus, have stricter rules now when it comes to execution. With beam, I think most especially, they like to see full extension with the leaps. See more fluid combinations with the dance and difficulty.

I PERSONALLY would rather have happy silver medalists than miserable golden girls..but we can have both....all I"M saying is the US girls are not invincible as they are human afterall--and the pressure put on them is off the charts...if they were going to have a "bad day", this was the day to have it..may the best team win but GO USA!!!! tough coaching is not abuse and Tom is clearly way too soft. Coaches need to be tough and assertive you cant make champions with silk gloves. Soon if this ''PC'' coaching continues Russia and China are happy to be back to controlling the leader boards but hey if yall want to sabotage your own athletes go ahead
Simone didn’t just fly out of bounds...she went off the podium! MyKayla is on her way home sadly but her Chang ended up so close to the table that she would have hit it if she fell forward. Jade’s vaults were beautiful. Best of luck to the USA ladies...they’re going to need it😔
Um....second is still amazing people. Why do we feel the need to be first or we are a failure? Maybe Russia needs first more than we do...gymnastics is a community of girls with dreams...I hope to never see another country like Romania that just seems to give up.
Yeah...it's quals. Why is this disloyal bunch moaning about quals if they flopped the AA? If I had to choose I would rather they scratch first in Quals.
Tom Forester isn't responsible for how well (or poorly) the women perform. He's responsible for WHO he picked for the team. He needs to be "out of a job" not because the USA looses to Russia, but for picking MyKayla for the individual spot instead of having her be on the team, putting Grace on the team instead of MyKayla, and leaving out Riley for the individual spot in favor of MyKayla. None of that made any sense considering MyKayla is more valuable as an all-arounder than Grace, but less valuable as a specialist than Riley. MyKayla was never going to qualify in an all-around spot as long as Simone and Suni are healthy, and she was never going to qualify for vault or floor as long as Simone and Jade are competing. So what was the point of having her be a specialist? Meanwhile, Riley could legit outscore everyone except Suni on bars. So it was a poor decision in my opinion to select the members the way he did.
Not sure why MyKayla wasn't put in as part of the USA team, seeing as she scored higher than at least one team member in every event o.O Gutted she's not part of any event finals due to the 2 per country rule 😣
You have right! Myk would be more useful in team event then as a solist... Selection mistake that was pointed many times. Also 2 per country rule is totally unfair.
The 2 individuals were more likely to make an even final in every event than the actual team members. As far as I can tell Grace and Jordan didn’t make a single EF
@@vissennav the Americans are the ones who proposed the 2 per country rule after the Romanians swept the podium in the 2000 sydney games. Well the I guess the Americans got a taste of thier own medicine haha
@@popeekai.m6368 The 2 per country rule for event finals has been around for wayyyyy before 2000. You are thinking of the AA, which used to be 3 per country when they took 36 gymnasts. They now take 24 so brought the AA to 2 per country as well. Has nothing to do with any country proposing the rule.
He just placed people on the team based off their standings after trials which is sad and disappointing, if he was given the job then he should do it well not lacking common sense.
As long as Forster is around, we're back to the way things were done before the US started winning as a team. Before Marta, the goal was not winning as a team; it was getting your gymnast on the team even if that was bad for the team. Picking the top 4 all-rounders was the most political thing Forster could have done. It even righted one of Marta's wrong's --- not picking Maggie. I am sure that made her coaches happy. When the individual coaches are "happy," the US usually loses.
I am going to disagree. Forester has restored a sense of fairness and transparency to the WAG team trials. The gymnasts on the team are there because they produced the recent competition results. No playing personal favorites, no reward for butt kissing. Good for him. This is good for the future of U.S. WAG in the long run.
@@aerocoaster3252 I don’t know, I’m somewhere in the middle... I think Tom tried really hard to be over-political and make a big show about Trials and AA scores... But I also think Mykayla got picked for the individual spot because she was a favorite. I love Mykayla and want her to be there, but watching her vlogs, you can see Tom favors her. And it never made sense for him to put her in that individual spot to bring her there not to medal (even if she scored higher than Jade on vault qualifications, Jade is a member of the US and can medal on her own so Myk is not needed). But it could be political after all, because he knew a lot of people would be mad if Myk didn’t go again and with Riley falling, it was a throw away spot anyway... Don’t come for me! I just got into gymnastics recently, but this whole situation just seems so weird to me. I’m not sure what to think of Tom...
I just finish wasting the Quals ... Jade and Myk were so so solid on all four events. Simone completely flew out of bounds. Jordan seems nervous. Suni missed a connection on UB. really hope they can shade the nerves and clean everything up for team finals. Super sad that Myk didn't qualify for anything. She worked so hard to get there and has been solid. Such a shame
I knew this was going to happen. If anyone has been watching the other countries before coming to the Olympics it was easy to see that the other countries are here to medal. We need to get it together.
As a fan of US gymnastics, I definitely feel like team USA was overconfident before the competition. Partly because of Simone's dominance, they felt like no other country could possibly threaten them. That's why TV commentators have gotten totally comfortable with Simone systematically stepping out of bounds on floor (and even falling on other apparatus!) as if it was no big deal. Everyone will have to be cleaner and more consistent to make sure to get the gold next week.
Because Tom Forester didn't think math would matter...

Olympic Gymnastic 2020 is much more exciting than 2016. Team USA not too dominate in qualification like 2016 UB: Qualification: Nina 15.366 (6.7D), Suni 15.200 (6.6D) BB: Guan chenchen 1st 14.933 (6.9D), Simone only 14.066 FX: Simone 14.133,....
Scoring was way off on beam with the highest execution score being an 8.2 (at the time the USA competed, I couldn’t figure out how to watch the rest)! Suni score at trials was too low but here she got an 8 with a routine that had 1 wobble. I’m also very sad with the Netherlands and for Sanne, I really would’ve liked to see her in the beam final.
To me what this says is that we were really good at putting together a team of event specialists. One of the reasons the Olympic committee switched to this 4 team and 2 individual members in the first place is because they were worried about it becoming more about specializing than a team of all around gymnasts. Yes one amazing vaulter or uneven bars gymnast will help your overall score but when 3 scores count of a 4 member team you have to have strong all around athletes to follow up that specialist. Now, USA can absolutely pull off a win in the finals, no doubt, but Russia is out for the gold back and they may have the squad to do it.
Those benefits them perfectly!! They have motivated them selves to gold. If they beat every one by a mile in qualifications they might be cocky coming into the final and/or lose focus. Now they have something to prove.
When I heard Simone didn’t qualify 1st in floor, I was like “what on earth happened?!?” I thought she must have fallen on her face. It really wasn’t as bad as I originally thought lol
Yes. I feel so bad for her. She has worked her butt off to improve and she did all she could do. I’m so sad she won’t get a medal. I was hoping she would. Sigh.
I mean this is still the qualifications so if USA get it together in the finals they still have a big chance in getting the gold since the scores will be reset to zero.
I Love this evaluation: honest and right on the money. The US better clean up their act and get rid of the self-imposed hype that they are the best gymnastics country right now and Simone being the GOAT. We need to see a more focused Simone and Jordan. They are being challenged on both the team and the individual efforts and it should not come as a surprise if the US is humbled home including the GOAT.
‘We need to see a more focused Simone’ What do you mean?! She is under so much pressure, has the twisties and is training the most difficult skills in the world! No wonder she was unfocused. Don’t judge her, stress affects everyone differently.
Everyone is trying their best. There's tremendous pressure on these girls, and whoever made this video, is only making matters worse. Be supportive people.
I’m glad you have made this videos. As mentioned in the other video comments people thought it was impossible and that it wasn’t even worth discussing. But now people see the wisdom that the Russian coach has which is that you don’t ever know what will happen in life and you shouldn’t count anyone out, or as a definite in. I watch all of the Games and though I am not a gymnast I have seen that Simone and the selected team have made serious mistakes at nationals, trials and now during qualifications. In hindsight people will have to acknowledge that this should not have come as a surprise. And it’s not all on Simone, the whole team seems weaker than the precious Olympic teams.

100% agree!!!
I still think Mykayla should have been on the quad team and McCusker in the specialist spot. I love Grace but Mykayla will score higher. Sure...Simone made UB finals but with the other competitors she won't make top 3...at least with McCusker there is a chance for a double medal with Riley and Suni
Well said.

We called it! I don’t know why people weren’t talking about Rebecca Andrade!

Amen
@@cy_lanix130 I totally agree with you. I also feel like the mental aspect played a huge part in these qualifications.
it is not marta that is the issue, they gymnasts just did not perform well and that is okay they still are going to finals
Wish all of the ladies success. You are all Olympian's and nothing will ever change that. Just enjoy yourself!

Simone goes out of bounds, but not the way she did in her 3rd pass during qualifications. That was uncharacteristic. She was practically off the floor. It was a much larger deduction than she normally gets when stepping out with one foot or having a small jump OOB.

I said that about Jordan! She needs that Amanar!
@@jacobbaker4545 ALL of that!!!
This was qualifications for the events, that's all. Everyone starts from zero including the team. I don't know why everyone is attacking individual athletes.
This is the nature of competition. You never know what's going to happen and you can't count anyone out until it's over.
WOW! but its good thing that this has happened. Its good to know that others do stand a chance and the us isnt automatically going to win everything.
I agree
I'd agree if Republic of Cheaters wasn't the one in 1st.

VERY!
Idk what's changed but as a team I feel we've lost our consistency. That was our strength. Our girls used to be so solid.

Team USA not too dominate in qualification like 2016
UB: Qualification: Nina 15.366 (6.7D), Suni 15.200 (6.6D)
BB: Guan chenchen 1st 14.933 (6.9D), Simone only 14.066
FX: Simone 14.133,....
That true
Suni qualified in beam?
@@kiersontitus7322 yes. Shes in 3rd with 14.200 (6.2D)
Maybe the Russian coach was right all along."Simone Biles is 70% of team USA"
Wasn't in Rio. But now they definitely put the major team weight on her.
ALL I WANT TO SAY IS..THIS TEAM FINAL IS FIREEEE!!! OMG IT LOOKS LIKE WILL BE LIKE TEAM FINAL 2012 SO EMOTIONAL 😭😭😭
Those benefits them perfectly!! They have motivated them selves to gold. If they beat every one by a mile in qualifications they might be cocky coming into the final and/or lose focus. Now they have something to prove.
Be kind. Give team USA a break. These women worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to be in the team. They do not deserve the negativity.
When I heard Simone didn’t qualify 1st in floor, I was like “what on earth happened?!?” I thought she must have fallen on her face. It really wasn’t as bad as I originally thought lol
I already said USA is beatable months ago lol and the stans were coming after me 😭
"USA would still win even if we had 2-3 falls" 😭
@@MultiChantal22 we can send our Z team and it would still score higher than the rest of the world 😭
Do you know where we can see the qualifications? Thank you so much for the update and information!
NBC!
@@usagtea8072 Thank you!
@Or Grimey, as he liked to be called they didnt as it was so late for the US, the US showed the australian commentators
There was no commentary on the NBC app version. It was very nice.
@@danasuperstar I don't think I would miss Tim's perspective haha
So Mik has finished behind the US girls and won’t qualify for anything? So much pressure on these young ladies.
Yes. I feel so bad for her. She has worked her butt off to improve and she did all she could do. I’m so sad she won’t get a medal. I was hoping she would. Sigh.
Myk was likely to only qualify for vault, but was edged out by Jade with the two per country rule. Huge bummer since Myk placed 4th!
I mean this is still the qualifications so if USA get it together in the finals they still have a big chance in getting the gold since the scores will be reset to zero.
I'm afraid about US team, the selection to my point of view wasn't right. But we'll see. Hope all the best.
This is why I LOVEE the Olympics. This is judging at its best. They know excellence when they see it.
Its everybody's game, even the best athletes can have mistakes sometimes. Its a stiff competition, Good luck to all of them.
Praying for team usa and thanks for posting this unpdate!
I was one of the people who said that the US B team could win. I couldn't believe this today
Everyone is trying their best. There's tremendous pressure on these girls, and whoever made this video, is only making matters worse. Be supportive people.
So McKayla really did get two per countried out of vault and floor finals? Awkward…
In fairness, her only real shot was on vault. Her floor was never enough to cut the mustard. I'm bummed for her competition ending though.
She's taking home the silver medal on vault, so...
@@KimmaParish notice how this comment was written a week ago…?
Valentina was so ahead of her time
