How would you know the gold medalist didn't do the same and cheer the other athletes. Nina is the champion with a breathtaking routine and she's a great athlete. Let's cheer for Suni and all the athletes but let's not try to divert the title away from the athlete who definitely earned that medal. It's disrespectful to her and her team.
Lilia seems very sweet, you can tell from her smile that she exudes genuine warmth when hugging the gymnasts from other countries! Excellent sportsmanship 👏
This EF was so underwhelming. Nobody hit with a great execution, i mean no one just did their actual best. When the reigning Olympic champion is as majestic and clean as Mustafina, everyone’s performance here just looked like warm-up (controversially, they really needed that warm-up) Also when Beth Tweddle and He Kexin did release after release, they were well executed. Yes I watch that EF about once a month.
This underwhelming final was good compared to the men's horizontal bar final with all those falls. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to not allow a warm-up.

But a mistake like Carey's (Who, in my opinion, was the only other woman in the Vault final that could have challenged Andrade for the gold) highlights why event finals need to have a touch warm up.

I wanted Seitz to medal so badly! All those UB finals in the Olympics (3 I think) and had that heartbreaking 4th place finish in Rio I really wanted it for her. GRRR If she didn't have that incredibly late pirouette right before her dismount she would have snuck on to the podium and gotten that bronze I believe!

That seitz is unnecesary and a little un-connected. The young Seitz who performed it for The first time si not the Seitz we see today (the same with the CODE)
It could have been, everyone in this final is very strong but it was one after another fall bad pirouette, Becky downie dropped out, etc. it could’ve been all high 14s
You can clearly see that there should’ve been a pre-finals warm up. None of these gymnast make those kinds of mistakes normally. It was a bit of a train-wreck.

Because of the fiberglass plus wood laminate combo, they were made by a Japanese sporting company for these Olympics. Now as to why they were chosen is a different question in itself

@@puffball4484 The “bendyness” of the bars as you put is is controllable. Each gymnast has a preference how they like the bags to feel depending on different factors. I think they all just preferred them looser . Or either due to not having a warm up, they weren’t able to try them out and decide. I REALLY don’t think it has anything to do with a company or the composition of them considering the apparatuses go through rigorous quantity control insuring apparatuses consistency no matter the competition. The only apparatus I’ve ever heard that has lacked consistency was the floor and that’s not even often. Imagine the injuries that would happen if the apparatuses could change depending on competition and country!

Lu Yufei deserved the bronze medal. Sunisa wasn't at her best this day, but the judges overscored her because at this point she already was all around champion
if Lu Yufei had connected the Jaeger into the Pak then she'd have gotten an extra 0.1 in start value and would have beaten Suni for bronze. But overall her E score was already generous; she had clear leg separation on the Pak and strange twisting technique on the Healy and Ling

These whole Olympics (gymnastics especially) showed anything can happen and no medal is ever a given or “won” before an event. So if there is anything you’ve ever wondered if you’re capable of doing, try.

Are the bars these days either more easily flexed or set looser than they used to be? I noticed with these Olympics how bouncy the bars look with all gymnasts and looked back at the 2000 Olympics and there is definitely a difference!! I’m wondering if they are being manufactured differently these days to allow for all of the high to low and low to high release moves, and whatnot.
@@queenofnevers6990 Yes you can ask, Ilyankova and the Chinese love the Bars when they are very loose. Unlike Carolan Heduit for example who likes them very tight (but it looks like she muscles everything which is very ugly to see...).

In 3rd grade I always climbed the money bars but I had crashed 2 rocks together to make powder and pretended like I was in the Olympics. (I got made fun of)
The commentators for gymnastics continue to drive me away from enjoying the sport. I get being critical and detail oriented, but when it's balanced with only 5-10% positive reinforcement, I cannot help but continue to admire this sport from afar. For context, I haven't watched in nearly a decade based on similar issues, and now I see not much has changed. I'll stick to track and field for my summer games viewing. At least the commentators there do a superior job of not being pretentious.

It depends on the brand. This one has flexible bars. Some like it, some don't. Nothing to do with "nowadays".

The commentators for gymnastics continue to drive me away from enjoying the sport. I get being critical and detail oriented, but when it's balanced with only 5-10% positive reinforcement, I cannot help but continue to admire this sport from afar. For context, I haven't watched in nearly a decade based on similar issues, and now I see not much has changed. I'll stick to track and field for my summer games viewing. At least the commentators there do a superior job of not being pretentious.
