This one is a solo gamers game, and its a proper, ground up, fully designed for solo solo game and those are remarkably scarce. What you will experience playing Halls of Hegra isn't a bolted on game mode or a new game cobbled together out of bits. It's a bespoke solo game like Final Girl, Nemo's war, Pavlovs house or Day of the Zeds. And it belongs alongside those other titles in terms of quality and depth of play. Really good solo game this.
I'm so happy that you got a copy of this! This has been one of my favorite solo games in the last year. I think its such a great match of narrative and mechanics and everything I love about a narrative wargame. Glad you enjoyed it!
I bought this a couple of weeks ago and havent stopped playing it. In feels fiddly and complicated at first but when you got it all, it actually runs really smoothly. It has a lot different elements, mechanics and stages, working seamlessly together, and the story has real arc to it. It has a lot of potential good choices each round, but you dont have enough defenders to fulfill all of them, creating a real tense build up to the end. A great game.
I’m sure it’s a great game, but after you’ve played through it 10 times or so, where does the replay value stand? This was my issue with Pavlov’s house. Loved the game, but became too samey after repeated plays.
@@3MBG Right, but do you think that after a fair amount of plays you’ll figure out the best overall strategies and then the game will become a bit monotonous? Again, this is what I ran into with Pavlov’s house. Also, does the game come with different modes or is the only variability just increasing the difficulty? Sorry, I really don’t mean to sound like I’m crapping on the game, as I’m sure it’s great. For a while Pavlov’s house was my favorite game.
I can't honestly answer for you because that's such a personal thing. My grandmother would play the same simple solitaire game with a standard set of 52 cards almost nightly for decades. That had no variable setups or new cards being put out. But she and many many others would play it, so much so that the exact game still comes bundled in most version of Microsoft windows for people to play. I have 1000 hours on terraforming mars on steam solo. Some people get bored of that after winning it once. So no, new plays wont have a dramatic amount of novelty to them. Whether novelty is required for extended enjoyment of a game is up to you.

Perhaps spacing out your plays might be key. It's like eating your favourite food, if you eat nothing but your fav for a month its gonna suck.
