DJI RS 2 | How to Perfectly Balance Your Gimbal With Few Steps

    To obtain the best performance from DJI RS 2, proper balancing of the three axes (tilt, roll, and pan) is essential. Improper balance may reduce stability and battery runtime. Severe imbalance can also lead to overheated motors which may force the gimbal to enter sleep mode for overheating protection.
    Timecodes:
    0:00 - Introduction
    0:32 - Balancing Basics
    The gimbal is considered balanced when the camera is mounted to DJI RS 2 and remains steady at any angle it moves along the three axes. The order for balancing the axes is:
    1:36 - Balancing the vertical tilt;
    2:10 - Balancing depth for the tilt axis;
    2:37 - Balancing the roll axis;
    3:02 - Balancing the pan axis.

    I truly believe that only due to marketing purposes, DJI won’t release a smart gimbal that can perfectly balance the camera automatically. They can’t show us their aces up their sleeve all at once, but incrementally. But I’m convinced 100% DJI has the technology and capability to release something like that in the near future. When they do, it’ll be game over for all other “competitors”.

    Does anyone else have a situation with the roll axis where it just will not stay in a position and returns to the centre, no matter how much you microadjust it and even if all the other axis are balanced? On the front screen the gimbal icon is green and it believes it is well balanced but I cannot get it to stay as in the video?

    I have two RS2 units, both show Error 1009 upon doing a Gimbal Self Check, after a successful Calibration and Balance (Excellent on all three axes). It does not always fail, but fails enough for me to not count on it working correctly. I've sent them both the DJI for 'repair' and they replaced them both after finding the faults. Now both of the replacement units yield the same Error 1009. I'm mystified that four of four fail for me and I do not see that others are having the same issues. Any recommendations? Thanks

      @@gerardorodriguez7858 I think the trick is to tighten the clamp as much as you can by lifting the clamp up and out of its spring seat and readjusting the clamp so that it clamped really hard, carbon fibre is more springy than metal so the pan and roll axis need more tightening to prevent any shifts in the arm clamps when they move.

    It is not possible to balance the pan axis with my RS2 and I have years of experience with balancing gimbals. All the other axis' are perfectly balanced, but no matter how I adjust the pan axis, the camera always tilts to the right side. It looks like there is a production error with the positioning of the pan axis or something.

    • @DJITutorials
      @DJITutorials  2 года назад +1

      Hello, there, please check the following steps:
      Method 1. The most accurate judgment method;
      Connect to the mobile device, launch the Ronin APP, find the "motor parameters" setting, click "more parameters", and check the power values of the pan axis, pitch axis, and roll axis. After the Auto Tune is completed, the smaller the power value, the better the balance status. If it exceeds ±5, it is recommended that the customer re-adjust the mechanical balance before performing Auto Tune .
      Before Auto Tune or after the mechanical balance is adjusted, it is recommended that the power values of the pan axis, pitch axis, and roll axis are all within ±5 before performing Auto Tune.
      Notice:
      1) Check the power value of the three-axis, the gimbal must exit the sleep mode. If the gimbal has entered the sleep mode, but the power values of all three axes are 0, and the gimbal is powerless, it may be a malfunction of the gimbal motor.
      Method 2: The most commonly used method;
      Connect to the mobile device, launch the Ronin APP, find the "balance adjustment" setting, tilt the gimbal according to the APP icon (the tilt angle must be greater than 15°, the APP interface prompts the current tilt angle), click "start detection" to check the balance detection result .
      Notice:
      Method 3: The method which does not need to connect to the APP;
      Check whether the camera and the gimbal can maintain the current position at different angles through the video provided by the customer. When the camera tilts up 45°, tilts down 45°, tilts 45° to the left, tilts 45° to the right, and the gimbal tilts 45° to the left, tilt 45° to the right. If the balance cannot be
      maintained at any position, the mechanical balance still needs to be adjusted.
      1) Ronin-SC recommends that the tilt angle of the gimbal is about 30°
      If these steps can not help you solve this problem, please contact our support via this link: www.dji.com/support/repair
      Thank you for your support.

    The vertical lift arm is so hard to move when a camera is attached, the side is all scratched now.

    • @DJITutorials
      @DJITutorials  2 года назад

      Hello, there. Sorry for your inconvenience. The roll axis of ronin s is a non-orthogonal design, so the cooperation between the axis arms will be relatively tight, and the additional weight of the camera will cause the axis arms to be inclined, resulting in a large friction force.
      It is suggested that when adjusting, refer to the figure below and lift the arm marked "RONIN" to reduce the friction of the shaft arm, and then adjust.

      Okay brotha, I think I found the solution on another video. You start the tilt axis all of the way at the bottom of the tilt arm. Balance the camera with the adjusting knob on baseplate. Get the camera looking straightforward level as possible. Then point camera upwards and perfect that by sliding the camera up the tilt arm to where it needs to be. Once the camera can look straight upwards without moving, Then put the camera in a looking forward position and use the adjusting knob one more time for fine tuning. Works great for me and seems to be working every time.
