For how long have I been waiting for someone to thoroughly talk about this. We need more content like this since next year is election time. Thank you for recognizing the importance of bringing such a critical conversation on deck🤝
No, a big NO. Digital voting can't be trusted, you can't maintain electoral integrity that way. People are not that lazy to mark X on paper, we've lost interest, that's all.
"The government prioritize the older generation" is the point I was anticipating throughout this content, as a youth of this country, I have to say you've outlined everything I needed to hear, down from the problem to the solution, salute. and amazing research bro
Youth not voting is an African thing... we have leaders in their 70s and 80s who have no connection or understanding on how to be a youth in Africa these days... we don't vote coz we are not included in their agendas...
Thank you for this. As a young person. My greatest anxiety about SA is that my generation has just given up. Without that changing, we will be stuck in the same situation. I hope your sentiments spreads to the IEC.
Digital voting would definitely be one the game changers, ( I / we ) don't care enough for politicians that can we stand in a long line for the whole day to vote for their party, only for said political party to act like we don't exist as soon as they get in power.
So yall thank that IEC or other institute are not captured? The ballot can still be rigged if yall don't know mates, there are warehouses that are being guard by security agencies that contains info.
Thanks dude for sharing this information. I think we also tend to underestimate the psychology of frustrated young people in this country due to unemployment alone. Put aside the suicide rate among young people, put aside the death rate of young people, put aside the university debt they have incurred, unemployment alone is a parasite that feeds off of young people. The sad part is that the government will NEVER be the one to take the first step towards any of the above-mentioned plagues, thereby defeated the e very purpose of their existence as a democratic government. Honestly my view is that the data alone makes sense as to why young people aren’t voting and no convincing evidence has been presented as a working solution to the opposite defense. The remedies you have mentioned are great sir but not enough to pullout young people from the deep might clay they find themselves in today. Looking forward to another episode .
Thanks for touching on this 👊🏼💪🏽 these old people in power don't want to reliqush it, so they do nothing to address this problem! We are young people nation led by dinosaurs.
The thing is I do not even know who to vote for, that is how sucky all political parties are for me. I considered voting, and have no freaking clue who best represents me, represents the country, they all suck, they are selfish and have zero interest about South Africans, we are soccer balls that they emotionally like kicking around.
Stunning vid, I think if we just put in a law that states you are not eligible for grants or government programs unless you vote. No tender, no grant and no nothing
For the youth to start voting it needs to be made compulsory to vote, if a youth does not vote, that it could affect negatively the prospects of employment or promotion. That it isolates that individual to economic & political isolation. I have spoken to alot of peers that have mentioned that-that is what it's gonna take for them to vote. Adolescents is getting the better of them, not realising that things are the way they are because of a lack of voter turn out to remove incompetence at the polls. Alot of the youth are also not politically conscientised and do not really have the desire to. So at times I think, maybe we are collectively getting what we deserve for being so unconscious ourselves.
Mntakwethu I first came across you on Penuel's channel and was very impressed by you. Subscribing to your channel therefore was a no brainer. Looking forward to more awesome content!
If they introduce the digital voting process, youth voter turnout would increase significantly. As a young person in South Africa, I won't use my time and money to go to voting booths while youth unemployment is at its highest.
This is the mind set that has gotten us to where we are right now , instead of going out and voting for change you rather stay in your current situation
Your content is full of love for South Africa. The youth can use this knowledge to turn the political climate of this country just by casting their vote with the understanding that they want to see their vote do The youth today are more informed. Love this, I am so worried about the upcoming elections. Considering the fact that scandals such as rigging of elections exists. Is voting not am elusion of democracy ??? Cambridge Analytica umzekelo
As a SAn youth, I vote because my parents are watching. If it wasn't for them, I'd be in my pyjamas all day. Looking at the voting paper is an eye roll. And these adults keep telling us we're spoilt and we have things are lot more easier and yet we're also labelled the boomerang generation. These voting stuff are not honest anyway. It's just a show and tell. It won'tput food on the table nor help you secure a job after graduation.
As a professional "hater", even if the government found a way to make voting so easy, secure and free from tempering that I do it from the comfort of my own bed. That would not be enough to make some of us even care to register to vote, unless we had something tangible to loss (potential is not tangible). I don't know if I am making sense
Truth is the youth have already lost. They lost employment opportunities, they lost business funding, they lost education through corruption and poor policy implementation
The University I work in recently had a thought leader webinar where a political analyst/researcher said this. I assume that their research probably has alot to do this, I'd write their name here but I forgot it. Anyway, great video.
@@mooshtaffa without a right mindset you won't even know how to choose leaders that will work best for you... you will be like a zombi who keep testing waters without knowing the end result
One I don't believe in a uneducated democracy. And two if one can't grasp the importance of a vote in a democracy one should not be allowed near a vote . Voter turn out is the last of the concerns. It's the parties and the policies that is on the table that are frightful while the country collapses . A game changer would be if the youth keep government accountable no matter who they are, We did it with apartheid but seem complicit with our current reality while we "opt out " by refusing to vote and failing to realise you can't opt out of a democracy by failing to partake.
This is a great video, I agree with you - we don't feel heard. Plus I feel like I'm not educated enough on politics. I've heard a lot of people just say the youth should start their own party. Video was beautifully edited and executed
You make a really good point, we need more youth participation. Youth participation is such an underrated issue, look at the impact politics' has had in the universities that same drive and energy needs to be aimed at fixing the country as well.
When I was a teenager, the ANC Youth league was super active. I would have never voted as a teen, but they had boots on the ground to get all of us to vote. Now they would never do that because they know that if young people vote they would be voted out of power. I blame political parties for being complacent, the only party that is engaging the youth constantly is the EFF. The rest of them are just hoping that the youth will show up on election day.
The youth cannot turn a blind eye to the lack of content in these politicians speeches, hypocricy and offcoarse their empty promises. If you are selling something I do not want nor need, I will not buy and guess what you cannot force me. Not voting is an action, I was hoping by now they would have asked why the youth does not vote and win them over by offering this but nope they have failed.
This is the same problem exists in Botswana..We are so disconnected with politics.Unemployment is high and our population rarely increase as economic situation after covid is not good.even when employed our salary scales and polocoes are outdated by two decades. The private sector is run mostly by I dian and Chinese conglomerates who are in every sector imaginable and buying land from poor & less informed. The areas with infinite water, like along the Limpopo river was long given to Boer farmers in pre-independence so they own majority of agricultural land.and the indigenous people there work for peanuts there and get to drink salty water at their villages..
Sho chef ,I have one request from you. Could you do us a video based on the education system we receive in south Africa compared to Westerns Educational system they have & how does it affect us ?
There is a difference between feeling unheard and not participating or being vocal about their needs. Youth are just not interested in politics. Perhaps the campaign should be to bring them up to speed
Bro, can you please interview that former Reserve Bank Director who revealed that a State Bank is infact the only solution to end poverty in SA since the real State Capture is by the SA Reserve Bank as well as the only 5 or so SA banks, who are the real culprits and the underlying cause and perpetuation of unemployment and povery in the landless black community. I think that interview will help the youth and all of us understand why they must go vote to change banking laws and the constitution to fast track land issues.
Representative democracy is a problem, not just in SA but globally. Hence why democracy itself is being questioned. Personally, I think representative democracy disempowers people and instead concentrates the power of the masses into the hands of a few. This leads to us not being able to make decisions on issues that directly affect us. Instead, we have to constantly protest a power structure that will always act in it's own interests
The people who don't vote have a serious issue of ignorance. Talk about entertainment they are number one but speak about their books they are not there
Politicians would not introduce a digital voting system because it conflicts with their interests. However, advanced digital verification systems are already utilized by banks and other entities worldwide.
Blockchain can help with the security and validation of online voting I think. This seems like the best option for all really, most of my gents go to the carwash because they don’t want to wait in voting queues you know
May you kindly make a short clip of the section in the video "The hidden SA youth voter power". The clip has to go viral to have any significant effect. Often majority of the population that falls under the youth are reluctant to vote because they think their vote is irrelevant or has no power. Your video contradicts that very notion and we need your clip to educate the masses because majority of the youth want change and I believe upon being educated that a mass collection of their votes can change the governorship in this country they'll definitely think twice as we're all aware, the Anc is only keeping their head above water from the elderly and seniority vote. Please do consider this. Let all the people you know that have a fairly large social media platform reshare the Clip. I honestly think if that clip circulates enough socoal media Accounts to reach approximately a million eyeballs(or more), you could very well help change the course of history in this country- Without most people knowing.
