My recommendations on your swim stroke: 1. Lean further forward ie head down in the water more (this will raise your hips and legs up, which will speed you up). 2. You need to think “high elbows” during the whole stroke (your elbows are dropping throughout the stroke). 3. You need to glide at the front of the stroke, with the other arm/hand providing propulsion under the water as you glide… you should do some catch up drills which will help with this. Good luck! Cheers Alec
Thanks you Alec! Super helpful! ☺️
I’d also look at your hand entry ! If you look up finger tip drill that will help a lot. You’ll find that in the sea the salt will make you more buoyant Vs a lake swim
Good luck. Have a great time.
I crashed several times learning with cleats also! The more you use them, the easier it is!!
That was great Kelly. It’s going to be so good for you to watch back at this video when you are further along and more confident. You’re half inspiring me to have a go and half scaring me to simply cheering you on from the comfort of RUclips 🤣
Thanks for taking us with you x
I’ve done triathlon for a long time and it brought me so much joy to see you doing these things and tackling the weird and wonderful bits of the sport for the first time. You will be brilliant in your race and I promise you’ll get used to the brick run jelly legs - it gets easier :) ps with the wetsuit - put baby oil on your wrists and ankles before the swim and step onto the legs to get the bottom half off, so much easier!
Well done Kelly
Well done Kelly! Looks like you're training is going well and you're really enjoying it!
Thank you. Ah yeah, I’m really enjoying it. It’s fun learning so much new stuff 🥳
“squirrel stop!” haha that made me laughout loud 😂 great progress Kelly. I find cleats v scary. I had spd pedals, but cos I was such a scaredy cat I got pedals that were flat on one side and spd on the other, that helped me, but looks like you are going to be great.
V well done kelly, really impressive, Iv done 3 triathlons now and I still don’t use cleats it frightens the absolute life outa me - v well done hun 💪 x
Kudos for riding in cleats for the first time on video! My first time was on a mountain bike, fell into a massive pile of nettles with the bike stuck on top of me! It becomes second nature very quickly though.
Welcome to the triathlon club!!!!
😍 it’s a fantastic club 🎉
Well done Kelly 🙂
FYI there are toilets at Bitton station 🙂 on the Bristol /Bath cycle path. And a cafe ☕
Thanks Claire! I’ve used them before but didn’t think to stop on way out then didn’t want to stop on way back 😆 lovely little cafe there!
@@KellogsOnTheRun ah okay 🙂 the path is perfect for getting away from the traffic. When is your triathlon ?
Hold yr front brake on to clip into your pedal. Also, have you got black cleats as they do not have any float i.e your foot/ knee position doesn't move, most people would where red cleats. Also a recovery run is exactly that, you should not have used it at as brick session, there are reasons why a "recovery run" is just that.
Ah yes, the first time in cleats, quite the learning experience. And two falls, I'd say that is normal. Good luck in your triathlon. And watch out, it could be addictive.
Thank you! I can very much see how it could be addictive 😅🎉
Are you and Matt both doing the Tri? You're going to smash it.
No, just me ☺️
Would Matt consider doing Duathlon?
regarding the cleats and pedals - have you considered SPDs? much easier to clip in and out as the pedals are double sided
Something to look into, thanks!
