    Being a 290 pound old guy that used to weigh 175 pounds I have to agree that sometimes the greatest weigh savings can be with the driver. LOL! Spare tires are kinda handy at 3 am when you have a flat though. Having had to use mine once, I think that I'll keep it. Here in Brrrrmont (VT), assistance can sometimes be far away, and since cell phones are as often as not "Ornamental" (no service) in VT, a spare tire can save your ass when it's -30 F! Another thought on spare tires is, here in VT a spare tire is required for annual state safety inspections. I'm not sure if other states require this, but it might be wise to check before putting that spare in the closet. Love your videos! Regards, Dean

    Have you considered a tune? Ive owned a couple of sport cars and the greatest thing bang for buck has been handing the car over to a tech nerd with a computer and a dyno machine and getting that inline 6 the best optimal air fuel ratio it can.
    My inlaws got a z3 recently and after driving the much spirited 2.3 i can say it lacked response even for an Auto. I'd like to take it, replace the speakers and unit, detail it, tune it and get it breathing a little better. So intake, exhaust and tune and then really feel the Beamer spirit awaken.
    Food for thought. Tunes are like the secret level in car enthusiasts

    Hi Mark, Former Jacksonville, Florida resident and retired Navy Chief, Really enjoy your channel! I have a 2000 Z3, 2.8, 5 speed manual in Topaz Blue with 98k miles. Purchased the car with 87k. I've owned the car for 5 years and have invested in a laundry list of repairs and upgrades. Recently replacing my tires for the second time in10k miles. I've upgraded and lowered the suspension with Bilstein shocks and H&R springs. (There were some issues with this mod. Happy to discuss if interested). New leather interior; aftermarket Alpine head unit, speakers and power amp. Love to send you some photos for the channel. Not sure how?

    Subtle mod that i did, was replacing the rear view mirror with the E46 clown-nose, eliminating the alarm LED from the centre console and rewiring… That and 325mm E46 330i front brakes..

    You can remove the spare tire and get a tire repair kit but leave the spare tire well or tray for that will cause drag if removed and your mpgs will go down.

    I heard more weight is needed in the rear of the Z3 to balance it out better and keeping the spare tire would help with that. Not sure how entirely accurate that is though 🤷‍♂️

    Here's a couple mods not mentioned, rock guards and wind deflector.
    On my rock guards I laid down carbon fiber vinyl to give it that poor mans carbon fiber look. The cool thing about vinyl is you can experiment to what meets your taste.
    A buddy of mine recently bought a classy looking wind deflector (under $200 bucks) that's secured using 4 mounts, not velcro straps. The seller on ebay is out of Corona Ca. I have the original oem wind screen but I'm tempted to buy this one.

    Spare tire is not the greatest weight reduction, it lowers the center of gravity even more and adds some weight on the rear axle, not sure how ~30 lbs will affect anything except rear clearance if you remove it. if you really want weight reduction. A carbon fiber hood or anything else lighter than that piece of metal that at the time of production of this car was the biggest one piece hood in the car industry if I am not mistaken, is probably the most important weight reduction you can do. Speakers leave just the 2 on the sides in the footwell and throw everything else out, that's weight there too and of course lightweight seats, frankly that would be the biggest upgrade and make you enjoy this car a lot more, seats that hold you in let you push the car to higher limits with more confidence

    • @MomentofZed
      @MomentofZed  Год назад +1

      The weight reduction part was more tongue in cheek than anything else. I've spoken with a bmw suspension engineer. He reminded me that its not a race car and bmw built in a cushion for variations in passenger weight and luggage weight. There was just no reason to haul around a tire I couldn't use in my case.
