Great choice, I own a 99 same engine, manual, and color. It's the most fun car I've ever owned.
I'm loving it so far. Check out my newer videos to see what I've done to it 🙌
More Z3 content!
Working on it as we speak!
17 inch rims from Apex. Cheap, BMW specific fitments and go as wide as 9.5 inches
I feel like the stock e90 18” would look good. The one I have in mind is the sport package wheel I believe I’ve seen it mostly on 335i’s but they are a concave design and I think look very good on most applications
Yeah I think I've seen those on a Z3 and they look pretty cool.
The camber in the rear of a Z3 is deliberate. There are offset bushings available to "fix" this but they detract from the car's handing rather than helping. I found with my 2002 2.5i that staggered wheels/tires, 20mm hubcentric spacers and polyurethane bushings in both the front and rear did wonders for the handling while staying with the original factory springs.
I welded adjustment plates to the rear subframe at trailing arm attachment points making it adjustable. Once I got it aligned and new wheels and tires it handles incredible.
Love the Z, and I'm planning to put BR coilovers on mine as well. Only thing im not set on are the spring rates. What spring rates did you go with?
I installed a wide body kit in the rear from a 6 cylinders but instead of changing wheels, I just installed a 40mm spacer from China and it looks great!
I'll admit; I usually don't care for those cars, but that looks great & that stance!
This is just the start 🤘
E30/E36 compact/z3 all share the same rear suspension setup. E36s and beyond don't. You can buy weld on camber plates to adjust this
That's what I did, it was a lot of work 😂
Looks great, never seen a modern car with wheel bolts instead of lugs I guess. Seen them on plenty of farm equipment I work on but not cars. awesome video
Thanks! Yeah I think it's mostly bmw and vw that uses lug bolts.....really annoying.
There are quite a few cars that use them. Mercedes, land rover, Chrysler crossfire and some new jeeps. Really strange. Usually if a car has then the Germans had something to do with it.
@@Kordare they do make studs you thred into the hub and use lug nuts but they can back out with the lug when taking them off.
If you really want the go kart feel, try the MR2 Spyder.
My stock 17 inch staggered rims look nice from the factory!
I have HR coilovers and IRP shock mounts. Do you need to grease or lube the coilovers ? Looks nice btw !
Not that I know of. Thanks!
what? i just looked for z3 content and klicked. then i saw the intro and realized ur that guy with the crazy fucking garage xD
Hahaha yup that's me 😂
Great choice, looks sick. I think your going to be surprised at how well these hold up to northeast roads. 👍
Thanks I'm excited for what's next!
the first upgrade should always be wheels and tires, chosen based on the goals for the car. shock struts and spring should be set aside until all of the old rubber bushings have been replaced. firm up the subframes the engine mounts the trans mount and then do the bushings for all of the control arms. THEN it's time to install coilovers.
I did wheels and tires right after this and did all rear subframe bushings as well.
Hey man, looking at getting these, but I read some review that said they had blown. How are yours holding up?
No issues with mine but I still only have like 1000 miles on them
I’ve been running bc’s br’s on my f30 for half a year and I love them. Need sway bars tho
Good to hear! This is my first set of bc's
Is it harder than the stock suspension? Is the ride quality compromised essentially
Im surprised you didnt need to compressed the springs.i thought people talked about the springs can hurt you.please let me know.thanks nice work too
If you have a lift and disconnect a few things you don't need to
did you ever fix the rear toe? and if so how?
This!
hey man nice video could you help me with some advice i have a z3 with HR coilovers street and the rear has upgraded shock mounts too but it seems to be tapping and clapping on majority of the roads and im wondering could it be the sway bar or stock end links etc ? thanks
and can i know if you used any aftermarket bolts or nuts that are stronger etc?
Nice video ! Can you help me out I’m wondering why I’m getting a ticking/knocking/clapping on dips mainly not really on bumps only when the wheel comes down I think maybe I’m bottoming out or didn’t do something special or correctly idk if I’m supposed to lube anything. it’s just the rear. They’re HR street coilovers on a 3.0i roadster
That could be a worn out bushing somewhere or maybe a tire rub issue
I have m-parallel wheels on mine. Looks great with those coils. Those headlights stock?
Oh sweet and yes I believe they are
Looks great man! Im running 18x9 avant garde m240s on my z3, even with 18s and being wide as 9 I don't have any rubbing. I am stock height though don't know if that would effect it all. Cant Wait to see what you do next!
lug bolts are king baby wym
Hey I got a Z3 Build in the Philly area that I’m working on. Think you could help?
Nice work. Any plans for exhaust?
Of course, but big power mods first!
Hows the ride quality and the handling
Very pleased overall
does the rear dampening knob showing in the rear? some cars you have to cut a hole out for it. and did these come with a comber adjuster?
Front has camber plates and rear knob is under the panel where the top lays in.
A shoe. You used an old shoe on the fender gap lol. I think you should look for a 17 inch wheel if you can. I agree an 18 might look too big.
Yup I think I'm going with 17's
Sweet viddy, your right reverse light is out. (you probably already know that)
haha I only realized once I was editing the video...
you should get black dots revvo wheels or apex arc 8 black wheels
Looks great
Thanks!
I have a rattle.in the back maybe where the stock shocks mount on top and was hoping to see under the rear cover but I guess ya completely skipped showing that even though it is definitely a part of this procedure. Oh well.
Ha sorry it was impossible to see with a camera
I'm sorry if this was mentioned somewhere in the video but what engine does this car have?
2.8l m52
I went 18s 8.5J around and they really fill the wheel well.
do you have any video showing the camber fix?
I do not sorry
Passenger side back up light is out too, that'll never pass inspection in Pennsyltuckey.
hahah yeah I realized that while editing this video
Where is the antenna now? Or no radio?
Wasn't there when I bought it but yes I don't use normal radio anyway
You went with the base spring rate or you choose a different rate?
Base
@@Kordare How you like it? I was wondering if I should go stiffer than what bc recommends?
@@philippegelinas3083 feels good so far but haven't done enough hard testing yet to say. Ride comfort would probably suck if you go much stiffer
How did you get the rear springs out so easily ?
Disconnect struts and pull down on hub
brooo great vid...it looks soooo good. Any update on the camber/toe issue? where the update lol. Keep up the great work fam!
Actually I had an update at the end of the kart build video, check it out I explain how I fixed that issue. Parts are on the way for it so new videos coming soon!
What did you do for camber and toe?
Had to pull the whole rear end out and weld adjustment plates to the trailing arm connection points. Huge pain but it's the only way to do it on this car. I have pictures of what I did in the next video in this series.
"Lug bolts are dumb"? Wheels on a BMW are hub-centric and they should not drop off like that. They should self support on the hub flange and require a tug or a solid whack to remove. If the wheel drops like that you may need shims that hug the flange curve. They are about the thickness of an aluminum can. A slight ill-fit is often the cause of a seemingly impossible to pinpoint vibration at speed.
Yeah they fit on the hub ring fine but sometimes the vibrations of an impact loosen that up and the wheels fall as shown. Not to mention it is much more difficult to mount the wheel because you are blindly threading the bolts. So yes I stand by my statement lug bolts are dumb.
@@Kordare Yeah I know what you mean regarding the awkwardness. My Toyota 4WD has bolts (6 of them) and with the weight of the wheel and tire it makes it a pia to line them up compared to studs. But I also have 3 BMWs and none of them sit loose enough to fall free like that.
@@DiscoFang yeah the fronts were tighter and didn't fall which is why I wasn't expecting that one to.
What is the actual reasoning behind putting coil overs on a regular z3? How fast you looking to be with that ? It would make more sense on an M roadster with 320hp but not a turd z3.
This has the 2.8l m52 which provides plenty of power with this small car. These coilovers with proper alignment made this car insanely fast through the turns. I also plan to add power at some point.
How many inch you cut front ones ?
Cut what?
@@Kordare sorry bro i mean you need to roll your fender hows it feel good quality ?
How did you get the back springs out so easily
Usually you kinda need to hang on it to bring down the control arm enough
@@Kordare dang it ok. It’s only on jackstands so I can’t hang on it much, do you have any other ways?
@@reflex4489 you can rent a spring compressor from the auto store
@@Kordare will do, thank you. Btw you have an amazing Z3 and I love everything about it
@@reflex4489 thanks a lot and good luck with yours!
Will you sell your rims and tires of your Jeep????
Not right now but maybe If I get rid of it
@@Kordare how much would you if so. Serious interest.
@@HooodTv I don't have any others right now so I cant
@@Kordare I’m having problems with my grand Cheroke you got any idea what might be going wrong with my truck please check my channel I got a video of the issue if you could help or have any idea I would truly appreciate it
cute how you forget to add the detail of the topbolts from the rear shocks.
What about them?
@@Kordare well they are located behind the seats under the carpet. Rather anoying to get to.
@@mmethorst yeah kinda, just gotta pull that carpet back
@@Kordare and then you have to fit in to get there, since the roof has to be up or removed
is it a 2.5 or a 3.0?
2.8 M52
@@Kordare oh ok, cool! Car looks great
@@temio.463 Thanks a lot!
It must be nice having the right setup to do that job!
I bought a lift before a bed, priorities 🤘
Oh to be young again and be able to lower my car. jk, just turned 24 but my backs shot lol
Haha I'm 29
You should do a drift build and learn to drift
hmmm I'm sure it will happen eventually. I did build a 240 before I started youtube which was a pretty fun car to slide around.
me watching these videos knowing i got no tools for this 🧍🏽♂️😭
Start investing in tools, you really don't need much to start.
reverse light is out
lol wanna help me install mine on my z, i dont have a lift but i dont want to pay a shop
You definitely don't need a lift, I've done this on jack stands many times
Ugh. I think it looks terrible lowered.
Haha yeah with stock body and camber and wheels it did. Cars finished now with new wheels and widebody.
ruclips.net/video/qwwihrAL6W0/видео.html
Drift build
Looks great, but these northern roads and that set up,would destroy the car in an afternoon.
I live in Pennsylvania and it's not bad at all
@@Kordare
It is in New England.Send your road crews up here!
who cares how it looks? how the hell does it ride ????
Not a lover of them z3 to me they are like a hairdresser car. lol
You just wait
Whats wrong with hairdressing?
@@teagancombest6049 Who said hatrdressing is wrong ?
@@markmdusty3 "I don't like x they are for hairdressers" implies there's some negative quality to "hairdressers x" so what is wrong with hairdressers that make their cars unlikeable to you?
