I bought my ex-demo A2 from Audi 21 years ago and still driving it 225,000 mikes later. Definitely a car for life, it is an engineering masterpiece and most certainly not ugly.
Re. CAR magazine, agree 100%! There are so many of us whose lives were enriched by the insight, skill, enthusiasm and relentless joy of LJK Setright; Barker; Cropley; Frankl; Green; Llewellin et al. Some of whom are sadly now gone but their gifts live on. Brilliant, marvellous, life-affirming 👏👏👏
For some reason, since the 80s, I've thought of LJK at least once a week.
@@stevenkelby2169 Bizarre isn't it? I can't claim to have always understood everything he wrote but you couldn't help but be drawn in by his enthusiasm for driving and his understanding of the engineering that made it possible.

I had a 6 seat daihatsu hi jet for years untill it finally overheated for the last time. Was great around town as long as speed bumps were avoided, dual carriageways and motorways were a bit challenging. But fun none the less

The first thing I purchased with my 1st proper job wage was Car Sept 1985. I may have every copy until about 2001 ish. Russell Bulgin, LJK, Cropley etc. The best writing and photography.
I’ve got some gift advice for Laura, I listen to every cast but don’t often comment but today I finished early and bought a bag of cans on my way home. I’m celebrating my 50th year so today I bought myself a present a Sony xr85x95lpu 85inch tv its last years model Curry’s are selling them off for half price. I think most Fellows would be happy with one as a present.

a recent channel discovery is "i do cars" tear downs of failed engines and its an adventure to see all the different ways engines fail and some of them are spectacularly catastrophic.
Found him with the Kia 3.3 V6 video over a year ago, he's become a staple of my saturday evenings ever since! Though his release schedule would put that at 1 or 2 in the morning UK time... Tip to anyone new to that channel: all the V10s have impressive carnage 😉

Been watching that sammy oreilly channel for a few years now and you're right about the before and after,some of the wrecks are insane and how the walk away from them is baffling .

On the subject of parking, OTOSOT, people who reverse into a spot in front of you and using their parking sensors, park 3mm off your bumper whilst giving themselves 2 metres infront
Over here in the US, we actually do park on the other side of things, mostly streets.
