    Pedantic point of correction - the Cherokee has a Power Transfer Unit, not a transfer case. Transfer cases are generally chain driven, the PTU in the Cherokee is gear driven, more similar to a differential or an old school power takeoff than a t-case honestly. There's also a big difference between the locker in the Cherokee and the "locker" in the Bronco Sport, which seemed to be kind of glossed over. The Cherokee has an honest-to-goodness mechanical locker, but the Bronco Sport uses a clutch-based system that will still allow for slip. That makes a big difference in doing anything more than forest roads, especially in these little CUVs that are going to be constantly on 3 wheels in any kind of actual, tough off roading. And, with these limited articulation vehicles, the Cherokee has a factory rock rail option, the Bronco Sport does not, which is an important consideration.

      This was 2 years ago. So probably didnt know enough then. But we know now that the dual clutch system is incredibly effective and does the same thing. Its not a Bronco, its not a Wrangler, it also isnt 60 to 100+k dollars..... Most people who own these super Jeeps or Broncos dont do more than trails anyway. Be honest. The real rear locking differential was a key feature that I was looking for and it's a tremendously good value based on price verses its on and off road capabilities . I'm sure the Ford will hold its value better over the next few years but that only matters if you're not going to hang on to it. The Jeep was just the smarter purchase.

    For the price of a jeep cherokee trailhawk you could get a little older grand cherokee laredo (trailrated) and put a 3 inch lift on it with slightly bigger tires. That's what I did and I think it seems smoother without the air suspension. Jeep is legendary as far as off-road capability when it comes to technical conditions and the limited slip differential is sweet. I've only had to use 4 low once or twice but it is a beast when it does. Also the 3.6 is probably a more reliable engine than the turbo in the long run but who knows right now for sure.

This Bronco sport would get stuck long before the Trailhawk. Per someone's comment below, you could have sat in the parking lot and had the same discussion if all you were going to base it on was looks.

    These two obviously want the look of an off road vehicle without the true capability. If you don't have a low range you don't get far anywhere here in Utah. Jeep wins and can also tow twice as much...4500lbs vs 2200. I can tow a boat, a small travel trailer etc. With the Bronco you can tow a pair of jet skis and you are maxed out.

  • @cdarwin2024
    @cdarwin2024 2 года назад

    I think the summary was dead on: If you want something more off road and towing capable the Trailhawk is the pick. If you want a smooth ride driving to the mall maybe in a snow storm or the occasional dirt road the Ford is the way to go. I went from a stock 14 Cherokee Latitude 3.2L to a 17 Trailhawk 3.2L lifted 2" with 31" KO2s and they are totally right on how much more "doggy" the TH is with all that added weight. My mileage went from 18/26 in the Latitude to 16/21 in the TH but at least I don't have to run that expensive 91 octane for the turbo that you can't always find in the back country off roading. Maybe a more fair comparison is the Cherokee Latitude equivalent now with the 2.0 vs the Bronco Sport 4 cyl since they stole the "GOAT mode" concept from Jeep who's been offering the same for a long time.

    Next time you pick people to rate a pair of vehicles try not to choose people that are not pre disposed to one of the vehicles being rated. That showed in this video based on the amount of time spent with each SUV. The Ford revieved twice the time that the Jeep did.

    you guys arent driving the trailhawk the way it is intended offroad wise in that comparison. the cherokee trailhawk is a weekend slow rock crawler... while the bronco sport or even the Bronco are main focused at a higher speed offroading baja style oriented. (Ford specified that). And you guys are driving both quick in the trails. not an apple to apple comparison. Should have tested both on both.

    I can feel the Ford bias. Praised the feautures on the Ford and really harped on the begative things about the Jeep. The reality is that these two vehicles aren't really that comparable. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk or Renegade would be more of a comparable to the Bronco Sport.

    Bronco sport doesn't have a low range like the Cherokee Trailhawk...It also doesn't have a rear locker like the Cherokee Trailhawk... Good talk, game over... Bronco Sport compares to a Jeep compass Trailhawk (maybe), not a Cherokee Trailhawk. As for the torque for climbing hills... engine torque almost doesn't matter at all. It's all about wheel torque. I can guarantee that the wheel torque is WAY better in the low range on the Cherokee Trailhawk. I don't care if you pick the best engine in the bronco and the worst engine in the Cherokee Trailhawk, it will absolutely obliterate the wheel torque produced by the baby bronco no matter what. It's not even close, I predict that the Cherokee Trailhawk has at LEAST 2x the wheel torque compared to the baby bronco (the actual climbing force).
    Ford Bronco Wheel torque: 190 ft-lb (Engine Torque) * 4.689 (first gear ) * 3.8 (the final drive ratio) yields a maximum of 3385.8 ft-lb of torque headed to the wheels ( basically the pulling force)
    Now for the Cherokee Trailhaw that has only 171ft-lb of torque but has a low range that's 56:1... That's 9576 ft-lb of torque headed to the wheels...
    That's almost 3x the pulling force. The weakest Cherokee Trailhawk will pull 2.92 times as hard off-road in 4 low ... AND... can also move about 2.92 times slower in a crawl.
    If you want to be really embarrassed... Let's check out the 2.0 turbo Cherokee Trailhawk... it has a 51.246:1 crawl ratio.
    That's 15,177.57 ft-lb of torque headed to the wheels compared to the Bronco Sports 3385.8. ... Now it's almost 5 times the wheel torque... it's 4.48x... There's no way in a million years that a Bronco sport will ever come anywhere close to a Cherokee Trailhawk off-road... This might even be better wheel torque than some of the 2.0 Jeep Wranglers. I'd have to check.

    Very disappointed in this "Face-off". What's the point of taking these two vehicles out on the trails If you're not actually going to compare and show their capabilities? You may as well have just parked them side by side in a parking lot and had this discussion. But I guess there's no click-bait in a heading that says"Ford Bronco Sport vs Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Parking-Spot Face-Off Comparison". Wasn't worth the time to view.

    • @TheHooniverse
      @TheHooniverse 3 года назад +2

      I mean... we legit drive them in the video. What are you looking for? We don't have the time or budget to cross Moab... honest question. And nothing we posted was clickbait. We drove both and gave our opinions. I'm not sure what makes you disappointed in that, unless it's just that the one YOU wanted to win didn't win...

    • @khanadda222
      @khanadda222 3 года назад +2

      @@TheHooniverse I’ve got a Bronco Sport Badlands on order, but I don’t know when it will come so I’m wondering if it might be worth considering the Cherokee Trailhawk. A key deciding factor is how capable each vehicle is. Perhaps you could highlight which part(s) of your “Face-off” might help anyone make such a decision. Was it the part where both vehicles are parked side by side in the dirt? Was it the part where we get to watch you sitting inside each vehicle while talking about them? Was it the part where we got to see some clips of both vehicles driving up a few dirt roads? Was it the part at the end where you gave your opinions that the Bronco Sport is better? Or, was it the part where you show some clips of each vehicle’s actual capability at tackling some reasonsbly challenging terrain - like a steep, bumpy hill, or some ruts etc.. Oh wait… you didn’t do that last part...
      So, what am I disappointed in about your "Face-off"? Mostly, that you went to the trouble of taking both of these vehicles off pavement but didn’t bother to do anything with them. In other words: This “Face-off” provided nothing that might help with anyone’s decision about which one to purchase. And if that was not the function of this “Face-off”, then I don’t know what your point was for posting this.
      My original statement stands: There is nothing relevant that you did here that couldn’t have been done with these vehicles parked side by side in a mall parking lot. If you want to call this a “Review”, that would be fair because that’s pretty much what it was, in which case the Cherokee was not even necessary. Calling this video a “Face-off”, when you don’t do any actual comparison of capabilities, is just click-bait to waste the time of anyone serious about purchasing one of these vehicles. I am happy that you chose the Sport over the Cherokee, I just wish you would have made it earn your choice. Another thing to consider: I may be going out on a limb here, but I suspect that most people came here to see some actual comparison of these two vehicles (which I’m sure can be done without going to Moab), not to watch you and someone else sitting in these vehicles and talking about them. Do better or do something else.

    • @joetrzaska
      @joetrzaska 3 года назад

      @@khanadda222 they all know that the Bronco Sport is nowhere near what the Trailhawk is as far as off-road capabilities are. This is a joke. They should have compared the Bronco Sport to the Cherokee Sport without the locker or 4 low. When you put the Trailhawk in 4 low you feel like you could pull the planet. The actual BRONCO is a real offroad vehicle on par with the Wrangler. The sport is just an Escape with big tires.
