Hey Omar, sorry I don't remember the video it's in but I just read a better place. Thank you so much for posting it in your video. I lost my grandfather a while ago and I'm still not over it. This was a wonderful story to read and really made me cry a lot. Just wanted to say thank you for posting cause I never would of heard of it otherwise. Thank you so much!
Great list!…apart from Monsters as it fell apart for me by taking the depravity and needless pain and violence too far in the third part of the book. Stunning art for the most but the story didn’t need to keep layering it on as thickly after the domestic abuse section…tbh I think if he took out the opening experimentation and the WW2 flashback it would be a masterpiece looking at the impacts of domestic abuse and PTSD. I’ve loved so many books this year, beasts of burden, fullmetal alchemist, American gods, Vinland saga, upgrade soul, witchfinder, and on and on. Hope you and Melanie and the girls have a great new year!
What a great and diverse selection! This is what makes this channel so unique, Omar. And we love and proudly stock 90% of your superb selection ("No One Else" has a special place in our hearts), which proves once more that great minds think alike ;) Happy new year, Minties!!
Thanks for this! Wish the best to you this new year!! I haven't heard of "Queer in Asia" anywhere, it needed a Kickstarter campaign to be translated but man, it is an amazing autobiographical graphic novel of a Chinese artist wandering lost among unapologetic characters. The holes, drugs and so much with a cinematographic style made me feel like it was a Kar-wai film.
Just subbed to this great channel! I’m now going to have to get Last God, Once and Future and a few others you mentioned! Thank you so much! I have become really tired of the capes…so these new original graphics novels really grabbed me! I also just discovered We Live which was also great! Thanks again!
THANK YOU! I found this much more valuable than the Top 10 Collected Editions, as I will be picking up 6 of your suggestions. Most of them were new to me. I certainly agree with you about "Monster", what a pleasant surprise that book was! Speaking of elder cartoonists, I recommend, if you haven't tried, Bill Griffith's "Nobody's Fool: the Life and Times of Schlitzie the Pinhead" and "Invisible Ink: My Mother's Love Affair with a Famous Cartoonist". Both can be found pretty cheaply in the secondary market and are moving, personal work from the creator of Zippy the Pinhead.
My non Marvel/non DC top 10 reads for this year (in no particular order): - Message to Adolf - TMNT (the classic run) - Kubidai Hikiukenin (by Hiroshi Hirata) - Capa preta (by Mutarelli) - Andre the Giant: Life and Legend - The Mercenary (El Mercenario) (by Vicente Segrelles) - Long John Silver (by Xavier Dorison) - Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth - Nonnonba (by Shigeru Mizuki)
Excellent recommendations, I love serial killer stories so that Eddie Gein one looks amazing. Is that Black Widow one a TPB? I believe I picked it up a few months ago, but haven't gotten around to read it. Definitely going to check the Last God, seems right up my alley, Fantasy is having a comeback in both written and graphic novels. Joona sounds a lot like Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts, another cool cartoon, maybe that was the feeling they were going for. Added Once and Future to my list too, Gillien is one of my favourite writers since The Wicked+The Divine
I haven’t read any of the books on this list, but I just picked up Once and Future, so I’m excited to read that. I was surprised Aliens Vol. 1 didn’t make this list! I’ve only been reading for about 6-8 months now, but my favorite titles for the year were: House of X/Powers of X; Annihilation Conquest; and Nocterra. Definitely looking forward to being apart of the community in 2022!
Thanks for all your hard work and recommendations Omar. There are a couple that you've recommeded recently that I plan on picking up shortly, "I Kill Giants," and, "No One Else," for example.

Thanks to your overview the Star Wars omnibus was my first ever purchase. Amazing read. Kotor is my favorite game and this book added so much lore. Thanks for my new hobby!
just wanted to say, unlike the comment below i love when you flip through the pages :) seeing the art makes me feel the vibe of the story and that’s so important bfore i can give it a chance
I think my faves reads this year were: The Swamp Thing by Ram V Vol. 1 TP Middlewest The Complete Tale HC X-Statix The Complete Collection Vol. 2 TP and the Robin run by Joshua Williamson. Happy new year to all your family and yourself Omar! Here’s to another year of awesome content!
Thanks for the recommendations. I read Old Republic over the holidays and it was good solid fun indeed. Star Wars Legacy by Ostrander and Duursema is another fun, self-contained series with similar virtues.
Happy New Year Omar and family. Appreciate all the work and enjoyment you added to our lives this year. Amazing to have a 100% positive and fun (but expensive) forum. See you in '22.
I found a super beat up copy of Blueberry Confederate Gold and I loved it! But the copy was so mid treated it falling apart and has coffee stains. Wish Dark Horse would reprint his Blueberry stuff.
@@brianmurphy250 haha. Moebius is so overrated. (Gimenez did metabarons) Even if he is one of the best European comics artists of all time, it’s like being the best ski jumper from Fiji.
@@reginaldforthright805 To each there own. I’m not into the super sci fi trippy stuff…but his work on the Blueberry western series was really good. It’s funny how much a French guy can capture the beauty of the American old west. But I’m a western fan, so I’m biased.
Honestly the last god was a fantastic story. I really loved it. I’m hoping there is a second book, because this universe could really be expanded to make an amazing world.
Very happy with you’re #1 Definitely mine as well, you also inspired me to make my own top ten! Love your wholesomeness and always puts me on to new titles!
Last God was solid. Rare when supplemental material is just as engaging as the main story. It was painful reading it issue to issue waiting for the next installment.
According to my Goodreads record, I read about 100 in 2021. My best personal favorite is Scalped series, Monsters, House of Penance, Mail Order Bride, Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio, Last God, Outcast series, Monolith, and Alone.
I just went and picked up Did You Here based on your recommendation. I had not heard of that one. Monsters is definitely the best comic I read this year. I describe it as true literature to people. I’ve been waiting for a sale for The Last God. 65 CAD is a bit much for a book that’s not even in deluxe format. Once and Future is on my wish list. But I can’t decide between the deluxe edition which is available on Chapters or the slipcase which is available for preorder.
When I first read Monsters when it came out I knew I was reading something special. It is without question THE BEST graphic novel of 2021. Once and Future I dont really get so I had to stop and read into English fables like King Arthur and Beowulf and then come back to it because I wasnt getting the references. The art was really great and vibrant. Great video Omar!
2 hidden gems for me in 2021 was: 1. Infinite Kung Fu by Robert Venditti and Kagan McLeod 2. The Legend of Oz: The Wicked West by Big Dog Ink Awesome finds

Cool list, definitely some great reads. Comics I enjoyed reading this year: - Monsters - Headlopper - Justice League International - Scalped - Fable :P
Really cool to see "Did you hear what Eddie Gein Done", The Goon was what got me into collecting singles, and this was the first and only kickstarter I've backed. Eric Powell is the man!
I have been onboard since before Saga even released the first book, and it was in my most anticipated books every issue for a long time. Somewhere, it just lost the thing that gave such an immediacy for me to get my hands on it. It’s not just issues I didn’t like, or a feeling the writing or art design fell off. I can’t really put a finger on it. I don’t engage with the fan community, as most are so fat out on their political ideology, it feels like something from the books. Release delays are normal with some books, so it wasn’t that either. I finally made a decision to let 5 or 6 books pass before I dive back in, and it immediately pulled me back in. Vaughn can take a trope, and then it into something one has never seen before, and I have loved Fiona Staples’s artwork, as she has been brilliant with using digital tech for many years now. She got a lot of shit for being all digital, before Saga, and by some even after, but I found it inspiring.
My top reads this year have been Locke and Key Compendium, Gideon Falls, Green Arrow Longbow Hunters omnibus 1+2, Batman by Snyder Vol.1, Criminal - Ed Brubaker, Batman by Paul Dini, Something is killing the children, Captain America - Ed Brubaker
So far for me these books/series in 2021 have been amazing and for a few left I can't wait to finish or see more releases soon. Some were recommended through your channel and others I've put off for so long, finally made the time to pick up on my reading during winter break. The Scumbag by Rick Remender Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro Wasted Space by Michael Moreci Fist of the North Star by Tetsuo Hara, Buronson Sunstone by Stjepan Šejić Hi Score Girl by Rensuke Oshikiri Ai Yori Aoshi by Kou Fumizuki Pastel by Toshihiko Kobayashi
My top 10 reads of 2021: 10. New 52 Justice League 9. JLA: Year One 8. Supergirl by Peter David volume 1 (will get to the other 3 very soon) 7. Squadron Supreme 6. Rorschach 5. Irredeemable 4. Crisis on Infinite Earths 3. The Vision 2. JLA by Grant Morrison Omnibus 1. Legion of Super-Heroes: Five Years Later Omnibus Volume 1 ABSOLUTELY interested in Last God, sounds right up my alley Love KOTOR and KOTOR 2, depending on my wallet im interested in that omnibus as well
I’ve mostly spent the year catching up on old books, but The Immortal Hulk has been a stand-out for me in 2021. Al Ewing did such a good job with the character, and the body horror aspects are spot on
"It's about a monster hunter in modern times" SOLD - SOLD A MILLION TIMES Not even going to listen to the rest. Don't care. Best premise that ever existed. Need it a billion more times please.
Of these, I definitely want to pickup that Once and Future hardcover (haven't read any of it as yet but it looks really good). Monsters is another I want to read, so will lookout for a cheap copy of that, and I am tempted by Volume 1 of Black Widow as you've twice given it a good plug Omar!
In no particular order (and not necessarily my favorites): DC Rebirth Deluxe Doomsday Clock Superman Smashes the Klan Paper Girls Peter Cannon Wrinkles All-Star Superman Upgrade Soul TMNT vol 1 The Grot Five honorable mentions: Animal Man Infinite Crisis Kingdom Come The Incal Johns Green Lantern omni vol 1
I'm not a fan of Kelly Thompson stories at all. But her Black Widow is good especially if you like MCU Widow and Yelena. If not this book probably isn't for you.
Black Widow is one of the floppies I get and always put to the top of my pile. I also really enjoy her ongoing Captain Marvel, especially Lauri-Ell who deserves a spotlight series, IMO.
1. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2. Batman Long Halloween 3. Green Arrow Longbow Hunters 4. Aliens 5. New Warriors 6. Usagi Yojimbo 7. Thunderbolts 8. Blade of the Immortal 9. All Star Superman 10. Planetary

Excellent list, more to add to my TBR. The only one I’ve read is Once & Future and I concur about its excellence. A similar read is Seven Secrets by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nuocolo. My top ten in alphabetical order: Astro City vol. 17: Aftermaths by Kurt Busiek & Brent Anderson & Mike Norton DCeased: Dead Planet by Tom Taylor & Trevor Hairsine Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man by Tom Taylor & various History of the Marvel Universe by Mark Waid & Alvaro Lopez Ironheart: Meant to Fly by Eve L. I’ve been interested in the Ed Gein especially since my parents lived in Plainfield, Wi for a while and that’s where he was from. I’ve even seen the spot where his house used to be.
Very good list. I would also choose Monsters from US Comics. Over Here we have a ton of Comics that would also fit in this category.Dragman, Aldobrando, Contrapaso or Kitaro Just to Name a few.
I loved your top 10. Lots of great books to buy ... :) One of the best graphic novels that I read in 2021 that's not in your top is "Ballad for Sophie" from Top Shelf. A beautiful story about a musician and so much more ... If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it.
What are some good Star Wars omnibuses or collections like the one you showed? I’d really like a dark, maybe sith oriented one with lots of violence/battles
Just read Darth Vader Omnibus by Kieron Gillen and really enjoyed it. Most Star Wars comics I've read haven't impressed me but that one I really liked.
Thanks for this list. I bought Black Widow: The Ties That Bind for my 11 year old daughter, and then read it after her: we both loved it, she’s already harassing me to get her the next instalment. Personally, I discovered Michel Rabagliati this year, and read 5 of his books. All great, but I loved Paul At Home most of all.
Monsters and did you hear what Eddie Gein done? are two of my favourite reads this year but be warned! Both deal with the absolute destruction of innocence...truly bleak. Neonomicon and Providence Compendium plus from hell all make my best reads this year. All these story's I've mentioned are bleak, psychologically draining, imaginatively brutal pieces of work... My cup of tea ;)
Last year you "made" me buy 5 or 6 books with your recommendations and no regrets, I really enjoyed them. Of this lot, at the very least another 5 or 6 more. Thank you Omar for promoting these less known books.

This year I only read / bought Tokyo Ghost 1 & 2 TPB, Usagi Yojimbo Origins & Homecoming, Monstress TPB vol 6, and Batman / Judge Dredd Collection.
So far for me these books/series in 2021 have been amazing and for a few left I can't wait to finish or see more releases soon. Some were recommended through your channel and others I've put off for so long, finally made the time to pick up on my reading during winter break.

Thank you for this list and everything you've done this year :)
0:33 that's a great little thing you did there, welcome back to your actual viewers, not just asking to watch bla bla, that's cool
Thank you for the kind words.
I'm glad "Eddie Gein" was on the list. It was such a chilling and captivating read, couldn't put it down.
It was phenomenal.

Im definitely getting the last god, thanks for the vid
Woah. Omar has read Brandon Sanderson? Awesome 💚🔥
Sometimes I even surprise myself.
I’ve mostly spent the year catching up on old books, but The Immortal Hulk has been a stand-out for me in 2021. Al Ewing did such a good job with the character, and the body horror aspects are spot on
Dude thanks for this list - buying so many of 'em. Insanely fascinated by the Ed Gein one. You ever read MY FRIEND DAHMER? Fantastic stuff
Yes. I do love that book tooz
Deadly class, first and only comics I've read so far
I am currently reading daredevil by Charles Soule and it is amazing!
Interesting top 10! I just put Black Widow: Ties That Bind, Jonna, and Once and Future on my to-be-read list after watching this video.
The once and future comic, is that the deluxe edition?! Thank you for all the amazing recommendations!!
It’s the slipcase edition.
@@NearMintCondition thank you!
"It's about a monster hunter in modern times"
SOLD - SOLD A MILLION TIMES
Not even going to listen to the rest.
Don't care.
Best premise that ever existed.
Need it a billion more times please.
Said 2021 like 2021 times 😂😂----Great video though, I always look forward to em
Take a shot. Every 2021!
Now you've made me interested to read some in this list of yours
I enjoyed reading about the families of hobbits.
GOD COUNTRY is my current read that I’m enjoying. SIKTC is what brought me back to comics though
Last god was amazing, best thing from DC (or Marvel) that i've ever read
In no particular order (and not necessarily my favorites):
DC Rebirth Deluxe
Doomsday Clock
Superman Smashes the Klan
Paper Girls
Peter Cannon
Wrinkles
All-Star Superman
Upgrade Soul
TMNT vol 1
The Grot
Five honorable mentions:
Animal Man
Infinite Crisis
Kingdom Come
The Incal
Johns Green Lantern omni vol 1
Thank you Omar.
The last god need the Absolute format (come on DC … standard size ?!?!!)
Ether by Kindt for me is nº1
Glad to see Kelly Thompson's black widow on your list. Ive enjoyed all of her works so far.
1. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
2. Batman Long Halloween
3. Green Arrow Longbow Hunters
4. Aliens
5. New Warriors
6. Usagi Yojimbo
7. Thunderbolts
8. Blade of the Immortal
9. All Star Superman
10. Planetary
Monsters has been sitting on my shelf, just haven't had time. I'll have to make time soon for it!
There’s a few books that I’ll definitely pick up, thanks
No particular order here but some of my favorite 1st time reads this year are
Saga

Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson
God Loves Man Kills
Berserk Deluxe volumes 1 and 2
Hellions by Zeb Wells

Darth Vader by Charles Soule
Wonder Woman Dead Earth
Buzz Kill by Donny Cates
Mister Miracle was great. I bought both Vision and Mister Miracle by Tom King and I've gone back to reading Mister Miracle twice now :P
The invincible books blew my mind
Excellent list, more to add to my TBR. The only one I’ve read is Once & Future and I concur about its excellence. A similar read is Seven Secrets by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nuocolo.

I’ve been interested in the Ed Gein especially since my parents lived in Plainfield, Wi for a while and that’s where he was from. I’ve even seen the spot where his house used to be.
Not sure if you've read invincible but the comic is really good I definitely do recommend it
One of my top 10 Image comics.
Very good list. I would also choose Monsters from US Comics. Over Here we have a ton of Comics that would also fit in this category.Dragman, Aldobrando, Contrapaso or Kitaro Just to Name a few.
Just purchased the Ed gein book and monsters....excited
Kill or be killed is is a must read anyone that loves graphic novels
Can't WAIT to get to Once and Future!!!
I am sold on Better Place!
I really hope you enjoy it.
I loved your top 10. Lots of great books to buy ... :)
One of the best graphic novels that I read in 2021 that's not in your top is "Ballad for Sophie" from Top Shelf.
@@sheshotjfk8375 what did you like about it?
V1 of Bw was sikk. V2 was archetypal Thompson solo, but actually ensemble.
I just got in Paul at Home last month and it’s on my pile to read. So glad both of you liked Black widow.
Loved reading the series:
Once & Future
Crowded
I Hate Fairyland
Finally started beserk in 2021. Just about finished vol 19
im defenitly gettin eddie gein and once & future
Monsters and did you hear what Eddie Gein done? are two of my favourite reads this year but be warned!
Both deal with the absolute destruction of innocence...truly bleak.
Neonomicon and Providence Compendium plus from hell all make my best reads this year.
All these story's I've mentioned are bleak, psychologically draining, imaginatively brutal pieces of work...
My cup of tea ;)
I forgot to mention the deluxe Sandman books ( book 4 I've just acquired ) which I bought and read for the first time this year.
Absolutely amazing.

Last god looks way cooler than I expected
I've bought the first monstress saga hardcover.
