- KTM New Zealand Rallye from the east to west coast. Over 80 KTM Adventure bikes from the KTM1190 Adventure R, KTM1190, KTM690 and KTM 950 Super Enduro took on some of the best trails in the north of island of New Zealand. Hosted by Chris Birch and KTM New Zealand it was a brilliant ride.

Proper break in for a ktm. Looks like good training for West Virginia. Wish I could experience that part of this rock.

You throw those big adventure bikes around and make it look so deceptively easy ........ that is just amazingly skill full riding, .......... I find those conditions hard enough to ride on my small light enduro bike....great video!!
Remember there were 80 riders on this trip. I only filmed five and myself on day 5 up the whagamonoa track, the rest had turned back. This is the beauty of these rides, they cater for all skill levels. At the end of a days ride, everyone has something to talk about. The really are great rides.

Amazing compilation of a challenging week. Can't imagine wrestling a big rig through most of that stuff. What did they (KTM) do with the rigs afterward ... re-sell as demo's?
Thanks mate. Yep were resold as demos. I was reflecting on the bike I used. Yeah we took it in some tough places, but it was well looked after. I washed it every night. Checked fluids. Didn't bend it. I thought to myself, my bike would be a good deal. Oh and I left my Giant Loop exhaust heat shield.

Yes you can. There are adventure riding training courses run by Chris Birch in Australia and New Zealand but Chris also provides training to groups, small groups or individuals.
Thanks for the reply! The skills learned would from those kinds of courses would definitely make you a well rounded rider which means more freedom to explore.
How much is an adventure trip and do you supply the motorcycles?

I never tried it.
You can see from this video it's possible, BUT you've got to know what you are doing. It is extremely easy for the pillion to break their ankles.

I can't remember the last time you had something which wasn't KTM on this channel...
It comes in spits and spurts. I'm currently patiently waiting for Honda Australia to give me an Africa Twin to test. With sales so high they don't seem too worried to have a review. I'm booked in to film Yamaha Australia's 250 Adventure meet in May, I'm currently working on a film from our Northern India Adventure on a Bajaj 230, a couple of Enfield Himalaya's and a Triumph Tiger, then there's the crossing of Siberia and the road of Bones on KTM990s. And you may hate it but I'm booked in to test the KTM 1090 Adventure, a very significant addition to the quickly expanding adventure fleet.
Nah it's not that I hate KTM, I just want see the rest of the competition... Good to hear you're planning more.
And early next year maybe May......Yamaha T7

Ok we get it you like Hondas. What most riders are agreeing on is the Honda and KTM have about the same good handling and suspension but the Honda has less power, which depending on your ability and style might not be a bad thing.
