In 1972 i sat in my house with my daughter Tara, her father left me for someone else. I used to play Joni Mitchel every day. This version is making me cry. Life is so incredible. PEACE
Karen, I agree. No disrespect meant to Joni Mitchell --- but I love the interaction between male and female vocalists. I also love the tempo. Slow, dramatic and lovely. Regards, Jim.
+James Millen Agreed. I loved this song performed by Joni Mitchell and others before hearing this version, but this duet with the slow haunting romantic arrangement is simply better. Also both of these singers have amazing voices.
i saw the movie switch when i was back in school days in 91/2 this song was the ending song to the movie very haunting and totally forgotten about it until i saw 'love actually' and heard the original by joni mitchel i would say this is the closes to the original i came across and bring me back to my youth
I heard this song first in the movie Switch, early 1990's I believe. Fell in love with it instantly. After I learned it was originally written and performed by Joni Mitchell, I listened to her versions. For years I much preferred this diet, so so beautiful. Lately though, I've come to appreciate the wistfulness, simplicity and depth of Joni's version much more. This one here is much more melodic and romantic. Joni's is, to me, more subtle, nuanced and multi-layered.
A truly wonderful song i use to have this on video. Paul Young apparently had a cold whilst filming the video, what a trooper.Senza una donna and heaven can wait are real classics too.
Hands down the best version. Anything with Paul Young in is going to be decent, but Maire's vocal gives this already amazing song another dimension. Different gravy.
I have just listened to this version of this classic song. Absolutely loved it. Joni owns this song but these version adds another dimension to it. It's just a great story.
don't feel like a sap saying that. i totally know how you feel and what you are trying to say.. i'm 37 and there are certain song that make me ache and think of all the years gone by. and really miss that carefree childhood. another one that always made me feel that way was Taylor Dane, "love will lead you back". try it out.. good post
Thanks for this video! Funny that it made such an impact when I first heard it on the movie...then somehow forgot about it. But now I remember...this is such a beautiful cover of the song. Isn't the lady Enya back when she was still in a group with her family- Clannad?
No, that is Moya Brennan who is the sister of Enya. Enya was only with them in the 1980s when they were a six piece band but left in 1982. By 1990 Clannad was only a four piece band when they released this duet in 1991.
I cried at the end of Switch because of this song. I was 15 and CONVINCED that I experienced a piece of heaven. It's like blue sky and clouds with the lyrics softly written in white. I never forgot that feeling. Also, if you listen to the track all the way to the very end you can hear Clannad softly cooing as if lulling a baby to sleep but really reassuring us! Honest and loving with a happy ending to everyone's story. It almost makes this life make sense.
I was 3 or 4 when I obsessed over that movie, cried every single time, but loved it, Still wished for Amanda to stay alive. Now I think that watching that movie at a such young age had an impact on me, but I remember almost every detail. How crazy is that. And I absolutely agree with the piece of heaven, I think it shaped my perception of religion even.
I remember watching this tune on top of the pops back in 1991 i was 15 and my Mother would hire the TV up when it came on..i always thought she was crazy ..but she died back in 95 and now at nearly 40 I know why this song meant so much to her
Bows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughin' when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say I love you, right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed But something's lost and something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
I appreciate this film and the song together have special meaning for you, though Joni Mitchell wrote Both Sides Now aged 21 having survived polio as a child and other personal challenges and traumas. She wrote from experience. Her own original recording on the album Clouds has to be the definitive version.
I would say Joni's version from the Love Actually film might be better than the original because it was being sung by a much more mature Joni Mitchell with even decades more life experience but that's just my opinion. Here's another version I really like as well. ruclips.net/video/bu4_WeZkSgc/видео.htmlsi=Wio-PaS1JBEWcmK9
This song always seems to sum up my dark years when I was either locked inside a box under water or flying high like a maniac. Luckily I made it through those years but I will always carry the mental and physical scars, and the name. Life is a forlorn dream, accept that and one day you might be happy.
I LOVED this song performed by Joni Mitchell and others before hearing this version, but this duet with the slow haunting romantic arrangement is simply better. Also both of these singers have amazing voices.
heard this the other day as I was waking up from sleeping in the TV room. The movie Switch was starting, and this song just gave me goose bumps. So hauntingly beautiful!!!
5min ago i was loughing to tears when Ellen Barkin was giving a birth and was grabing her mens balls and afterwords this song which took me almost to another kind of tears...oh lord...magic!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's where I first heard this beauty. Unbelievable! Every time I hear it I hear the final scene where God says "Take your time. You have all eternity." Epic tingles!
Sublime! A truly wonderful version of Joni Mitchell's 1969 classic. I am old enough to remember the original and even now, 40 years later, I really don't know clouds at all.
this is simply gorgeos, clannad are still as angelic as ever, and of course you sounded so sweet, sorry i dident warrent your friendship, i obviously dident count for much,
I’ve heard this song a long time ago and to be honest I don’t hear it much since, then the other day where I live in Llandudno North Wales I heard it playing along the pier, when I got home I tried to find the song and singer and played it again and again till I heard this version, what can I say, absolutely beautiful version if not better than the original, mind you Joshs version is good to

Best version I've ever heard of this lovely song.
Agree.
Agreed
Agree
one of the best paul young songs to go under the radar
In 1972 i sat in my house with my daughter Tara, her father left me for someone else. I used to play Joni Mitchel every day. This version is making me cry. Life is so incredible. PEACE
The best of the best duet ever...on a very wonderful song.
I just can't watch the end of the switch movie... when the little girl is standing by the grave and this song plays... I can't stop crying...😥
The absolute best version of them all
Totally agreed. Thanks.
still is. After all this time
I agree.
Just love this song and as a fan of Paul Young it couldn't be better. I agree it works so well as a duet
Karen, I agree. No disrespect meant to Joni Mitchell --- but I love the interaction between male and female vocalists. I also love the tempo. Slow, dramatic and lovely. Regards, Jim.

The Dexys version is tremendous. Different but really moving.
Que maravilha! Tema de Switche , que eu vi no cinema em 1991, fime pouco visto, mais muito bom! Inovador!
Beautiful
The most beautiful interpretation of this song I've ever heard. Sorry, Joni.
Agree
Love this track I always said I'd have this track at my funeral when it's time
i really love this song. the 2 of them together is class

Hi Andy: I, too, saw the Movie --- then was awe inspired by the closing credits, which included this lovely version. IMO --- better than Joni.

Absolutely beautiful 💞💞
Beautiful 🕊♥️
A truly wonderful song i use to have this on video.
Paul Young apparently had a cold whilst filming the video, what a trooper.Senza una donna and heaven can wait are real classics too.
so beautiful
Sheer class!
what a song and what a version !
I don't know Joni Mitchell version, but it's the only thing I've been told about my dad, this was his favourite song 😪😪😪😪x
Increíble version
Hands down the best version. Anything with Paul Young in is going to be decent, but Maire's vocal gives this already amazing song another dimension. Different gravy.
Hauntingly beautiful ❤️
I agree. This version is the best!
I have just listened to this version of this classic song. Absolutely loved it. Joni owns this song but these version adds another dimension to it. It's just a great story.
This is an amazing song and this is the best version of it ever done.
Very nice version i like clannad and paul young is great awsome
Stunning and hauting song. Thanks for the vid. Moire's voice works so well with Paul's. Great duet and thanks for sharing.
💔💔 A song I never showed you xxxxxx if you find this then it means something xxx hope you and bon are safe and warm 💕
Superb.
I admit it, no problem. This is my all-time favorite version. It leaves Joni lacking.
Great moments for the Soul
don't feel like a sap saying that. i totally know how you feel and what you are trying to say.. i'm 37 and there are certain song that make me ache and think of all the years gone by. and really miss that carefree childhood. another one that always made me feel that way was Taylor Dane, "love will lead you back". try it out.. good post
She played at my cousins funeral in 2008 . She sang a solo in Irish and played the harp ..A modest woman I reckon. ,
Wow! Amazing! (And yes: she is!)
Thanks for this video! Funny that it made such an impact when I first heard it on the movie...then somehow forgot about it. But now I remember...this is such a beautiful cover of the song.
Isn't the lady Enya back when she was still in a group with her family- Clannad?

Is This a Duet w/Dusty Springfield♥️🌟💖💪
Enya makes this song what it is - magic
This here is not sung by Enya, but her (eldest) sister Moya (=Máire) !
Have a listen to Roger Whittaker's version as well...just as beautiful even though I am a PY fan since the '80s!!
He died at 60. He died surfing. dont be sorry. you are sweet to think of me. he did leave me, but that was another time. its all love.
7 Thumbs down = 7 people with no soul
Thanks. I agree.
Scott A I have no soul, I'm an atheist, and I love this song :P
sorry for you. We all have something to believe --- but it's your call
Очень красивая Вещь
@darrenmaccann1 OOOoOOO It isn't Enya, it's her sister Maire Brennan.
Den Film hab ich ich 10 mal ausgeliehen (Video)
The lovely Irish Moya with her haunting voice. Best version of this beautiful song.
when the Irish and English team up as you say well proudly that achieves me lol.
so much better than that hack Joni Mitchell's version
Joni Mitchell wrote this song. Why is she a hack,
Played this at Mams funeral. She loved this track. Always brings a tear to my eye. Miss you Mam.
Sorry for your loss. It is a very moving song.
My mum loved it too 💚
It is a beautiful song. Maybe the most beautiful song ever. And this is the best version.
Beautiful song ❤ Maire Brennan lives about 20mins drive from where I am tonight & met Paul young early 90s and what a really nice person 👏👏👏
I cried at the end of Switch because of this song. I was 15 and CONVINCED that I experienced a piece of heaven. It's like blue sky and clouds with the lyrics softly written in white. I never forgot that feeling.

Indeed that was a good film. One of the best that was made for HBO in the 90s
I also remember crying while watching the movie.
Just too beautiful movie
Some Moving tributes to this very beautiful song and haunting, ethereal lyrics
I love the original and Glen Campbell's version, but I have to say this is the best interpretation I've ever heard! Absolutely magnificent!
I remember watching this tune on top of the pops back in 1991 i was 15 and my Mother would hire the TV up when it came on..i always thought she was crazy ..but she died back in 95 and now at nearly 40 I know why this song meant so much to her
The same year I lost my mom . God bless our mothers.
I lost my mam(RIP) in July 95 too, this has always been my favourite version of this beautiful Joni Mitchell song. 🎵🎤🎼📻🎧🎹🎸😍💕
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughin' when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you, right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
But something's lost and something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
"Rows and floes ...", as on Joni Mitchell's official website - floes are sheets of floating ice.
a very very underated song from these two, i love this.
I'm very sure that we all agree.
What makes you believe it's underrated?
It is excellent. Dexy's do a very different version which is also great.
A beautiful version of this song. I love the musical dialogue between the singers.
Supposedly they recorded the song separately in different locations and were never together. Paul Young had a dose of the flu at the time
Always cry… This song describes how I feel after loosing my angel my mother…
this is still the best version done god i miss the 80s
91

@@HarveyMillstone That misses the point, I think. The beauty of Joni's original version is its irony. I genuinely don't believe that can be bettered.
the best duet ever recorded. My heart is always totally touched when I hear this song...
Joni is the best songwriter on earth
I have been looking for this version. Its my favorite version of this song. I love Clannad and Paul Young did this song so good
heard this the other day as I was waking up from sleeping in the TV room. The movie Switch was starting, and this song just gave me goose bumps. So hauntingly beautiful!!!
I love this song. Joni Mitchell wrote this beautiful ballad.
Loved the movie, but my favorite part was the duet that closes (in credits). Best version I've ever hear --- and it, too, brings me to tears.
Me too... 😢🌟
Beautiful song and voices of Moya & Paul. Wonderful interpretation. The best!!
5min ago i was loughing to tears when Ellen Barkin was giving a birth and was grabing her mens balls and afterwords this song which took me almost to another kind of tears...oh lord...magic!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul Young's voice has never sounded better and the harmonies are beautiful. A duet beautifully arranged adds a new dimension to the song.
I love this song!!! :D
Fell in love with this version the very first time i heard it on Paul's From Time to Time album.
Joni's version came a close 2nd... 🤭
As much as I love both Judy and Joni versions this duet nails it
Disappointing that this version isn't on Spotify
Yeah. That pisses me off too. I just had to buy the CD after hearing this.
I bought the cd back in the days….
love this version

Who's here because of Switch?
Joseph Hernandez Me.
Me
Ellen barkin ❤
And me too❤️😍
Me. Just watched it for the first time.
Never knew they covered this! Wow! Lovely!

how are you paul. i love this song.
Paul and Clannad simply killed this. Do you know who came up with the arrangement?
Sublime!
A truly wonderful version of Joni Mitchell's 1969 classic.
I am old enough to remember the original and even now, 40 years later, I really don't know clouds at all.
Nice song , from two melodic and divine voices.
I'm from Philippines. I love this song. Ost from switch year 1991. July 14 2022.
My song at age 13......listened to this over and over! Still own the tape cassette and walkman! ❤
The best rendition of this song ever, is by these two.
this is simply gorgeos, clannad are still as angelic as ever, and of course you sounded so sweet, sorry i dident warrent your friendship, i obviously dident count for much,

I see life on both sides now ... somebody is cutting onions again 😂
A PY fan for a lifetime and never knew of this song! Shame on me.
A beautiful cover of joni Mitchell song well done done by two great artists
Aggravated I can’t get on Apple Music.
Paul Young...a voice that never been forgotten...
Very nice version, 😂 ❤
I came back here after watching CODA, but this is still by far my favorite version, ever since I heard it on the opening segment of the movie, Switch.
Paul Young with Clannad - Both Sides Now (1991 video).
She’s got a lovely voice very complimentary to Paul. I think this song clicked for both of them. Lovely video and very relaxing 😎 song.
Nicely done.
I remember breaking up with my first true girlfriend - this was the song that this sad kid used to cry myself to sleep with! That was twenty years ago! I feel so old LOL!!! What a song, though. Stands up to the modern songs of late! A classic
Thanks for the wonderful song i love it

Songwriters: MITCHELL, JONI
As they did mine, too.
Simply ono of the best songs ever written and performed. just love it
Never heard this before, wow!! Something else, 🤗
great version of this song .... just a wee bit heavy on the reverb!
A wonderful interpretation / interpretation of this song.
IMO ---- the best.
More you learn, more you don’t understand
I really love this song. This song and his other songs keep me going, when I have alot of ruff days with my kidneys.
