man what a powerhouse Thebs! that's a killer in my book even with a couple of dings in it. I haven't been able to hit any creeks yet but hopefully soon I'll get to go and find some artifacts to start my new year. awesome hunt guys👍
Well that Thebes looks suspiciously like the one Nelson made at the ridge last time.... Kidding of course. That was indeed a powerhouse! You have made the rest of us jealous. As for Mark, he was on the board so at least he didn't get skunked.
Very nice Thebes! beautiful. I have found material very similar to that in N.KY. I have always assumed Carter cave as well. Thanks for sharing and rock on!
Sweet E notch ....the little damage didn't hurt that thing at all ! Although yours wasn't as big Mark...it took a good eye to find it....LOL Good luck fellas on the next ones !
@PAHead... Thanx.... It is Nelson's first case-worthy Thebes... The E-Notch feature was the bonus plan.... Thanx for the comment and good luck to you too.!
You guys ever get out on the river down around your county? I talked to a guy that looked it with a sifter several months ago and he found a killer Heavy Duty point that is flawless. He had some bird points that were killer as well that would fit on a Lincoln penny.Should try it if you have time. All my better items come off the river
Woo - Niiice Thebs (E Notch)! Very cool nutter stone, and I love those chipped celts (find quite a few of those here in Pa.) As far as that bull-nosed scraper goes, I have to wonder that when they are so thick on the business end, are they blunts made from broken points, or are they hafted - scrapers from the get go? I know that most of the ones that are unifaced are hafted scrapers, not re-purposed points. Of course they could have been knapping a standard point, hit a bad spot part of the way through, and oops .... I guess it's gonna be a hafted - scraper. I guess you had to be there!
Hello Mark and Nelson, I live in Putnam county and I wanted to start looking for arrowheads with my dad. Can you give me some tips on where to go and look?
Love your channel! Got a question, do you all use or can you recommend a good reference book for identifying artifacts? I’m new to all this and am amazed when you guys readily ID something you find.
@MWigal.... We often try to identify artifacts when we find them but often make mistakes until we do a little research... We use the Overstreet Guide for identification... We believe it is the best research tool we have. You should be able to get one from the internet. Good luck... and thanx for the comment.!
@IanC.... They are some sort of old canning jar lid... We find dozens of these things in the creeks. We dont know exactly how old they are and we doubt they are worth anything.
@beveled.... The Thebes points are hard enough to find, let alone the ones with the E-notch... We know they are there now and will be looking for more. LOL... Good luck to you...!

You know Nelson's knapping is much better than that... LOL...

That Thebes is nice. Looks like Carter Cave flint to me...that is a good one
@ChristianA.... We also think it is Carter Cave Flint... There is a lot of this material in our hunting sites.
I get lucky and find some....the farther I go down river I start to find it....Around Belpre Ohio I start seeing it in quantity.

@FlintSp... Thanks for the comment.... The Thebes was a burner... Will be hard to beat but we're on it.

Great job guys! What is that white line on the Thebes?
@Ben Meter.... The white line is some sort of inclusion in the flint... It is visible on both sides.
