I will admit this: I have always had a hard time understanding St. Paul, but I will make a better effort. Thank you always Bishop Barron for your teaching!
2.20am UK time. Monday 18th Seotember 2023. This Anglican follower of Bishop Barron's sermons and daily Gospel readings has found food for the soul. I loved all your world youth day sermons and I am 77 years old. Thank you Bishop. God be with you.
Goodmoring sir. That’s where we are with my son Joshua he stuck in that little world I was single mother just me and older brother Marcus my jumps on me for spoil ing him
Beautiful thoughts Bishop Barron, especially for those who are already striving for holiness. Hopefully they will also touch the minds of those lacking any observable spiritual sensibilities.
Thank you Bishop Barron, for all you do for our Faith. I started following you 6 yrs ago. Had cancer, radiation (which is killing me now), and I'm back subscribed to your Program. Our younger generations need you Sir; keep up God's work.
Man oh man, Bishop Barron is on a HOT STREAK! Thank you Bishop for this challenge to enter the adventure that Jesus calls each of us to participate in. There is not a soul alive that won't be impacted by hearing this treasure of a homily! God Bless you Bishop Barron and thank you! My prayers are with you.
I’m listening to one homily after another. ❤ God speaks so powerfully through you, so thankful for our priests that allow the Holy Spirit to work in them. We need your wisdom, courage, direction and hope! ❤ Thank you for your dedication.. thru Christ 😊
Thank you Bishop Barron for such a beautiful reflection and reminder for us as we navigate against the self centered culture in today's world. God Bless you.
Less that one year ago I would have struggled understanding your video but since some time now I am ready to follow you and fully suscribe what you say in this video and many others of yours. With the help of your videos Bishop Barron I am learning how to let Jesus live within me and he is teaching me what means to forgive, love and to carry your own cross.
Dear Bishop Barron, Is it not funny that to be Catholic is counter-culture? And yet so many that do not know, accuse the Church of being "traditional", stuck in it's old ways, unwilling to get in step with the times? The one thing I would add to these wonderful words shared by Paul and your exposition, is that once we understand we don't live for ourselves, how liberating it is! Once I understood that Our Lord loves us no matter what we do, I felt a tremendous burden lift from my heart. And as you pointed out as a child, how everything is taken care for us, the sacred milieu created by God, it's absolutely wonderful how liberating it can be for each of us. Thanks for all you do and I pray that Our Mother keeps you under the mantle of protection, always!
Brilliant! Permanent adolescence…what Fr Richard Rohr calls the first half of life, is exactly where so many remain stuck. Thank God for these two wise men who can articulate what we need to hear.
But aren't we His workmanship? Isn't God responsible for our growth and for reaching our maturity? There's nothing we have that is not given us, without Him we can do NOTHING!
Loved your homily Father Baron. I am a lector and read the first and second reading during vigil mass, and it was not until you explained the second reading that it hit home for me. I constantly hear it is my life, my body, my way, etc. No, it is really the Lord's. Mind blowing!
WOW! I have turned my will and my life over to God. Thank you, Lord, for the affirmation through the words of Bishop Barron. Thank you, Bishop Barron, for being an earthen vessel. WOW!
You saved the day again! Thank you, thank you for your gift of your life. Your words today made me smile and reminded me of an uncle of mine who had this saying, “you can swim around that guy’s world in a melon skin!” My Dad was raised with 12 boys and 2 girls in a, then remote, area of north central Saskatchewan in Canada. My Grandpa brought his large family to a place where not one tree was cut and no roads. - the tale is too long to tell here but needless to say, this family did not think you were handed anything for nothing and slogged life out together. I’m sure my Grandma was and is a saint; her rosary always at the front of her life and many hardships including feeding the many “strays” Grandpa would bring home to feed and help who had wandered into a hard land they had no idea how to survive in. Anyway the “faith” prevailed, sometimes you never saw a priest for a few months. Grandma was also a staunch supporter of the priesthood, sending a few cents or a dollar or two whenever she could to support them in seminary. Every single day, the family lived out the initiation steps you talked about, it was clearly spelled out through everyday living and there were was so much joy and fun mixed in with all the work and trials. We knew God - and how to find Him when we were lost. We knew the way home. JMJ please keep your great servant, Bishop Barron safe and strong. Amen.
I really wanted and prayed that someone teaches this message valiantly to our children, especially the young adults and even adults. Thanks to social media, we are able to listen to this great teaching. We are in deep need of the right education to bring us out of permanent adolescence. May God bless the world of today to get to the right space with proper change in thinking and understanding and acceptance of our belongingness to Christ, our Saviour. May metanoia preached and expected by Jesus for our own good get the souls back to God in this century too.
You described so succinctly the very essence of modern culture and the rise of narcissists, who are children in adult bodies, who are so self-absorbed and egocentric, there is no place for God in their lives. This is becoming more prevalent and this is our challenge as believers in God and in His son Jesus, Our role as parents and teachers to the next generation, is to ensure our children grow to become adults who are empathetic, kind and humble in their knowledge of God as Our King and the sacrifice made by his Son, Our Lord Jesus for us.
"My life, my death, my choice" Pretty much sums up the facile philosophy of Western secularism/consumerism; thus, the adolescent precepts that continue well into adulthood. Christianity has been reduced to a blandness in our world, so thank you to Bishop Barron for preaching the Good News.
Sometimes I listen to these sermons twice. I wish every homilist that has as much fervor for public speaking and preaching the Word would record what they say. I like the theme: "I belong to someone else," therefore, I must live to serve the Creator who made me.
Thank you Bishop Barron for REMINDING me!!! It's not I that LIVES but CHRIST WHO LIVES IN ME!!! It is not my ego that is in charge of my life but GOD!!! All that we have in this world; fame, riches, power, properties, attention seeking etc. we can't take with us in the grave, nor when our Lord comes again with GREAT HOPE to take us with Him into Heaven, according to His Perfect, Wonderful Will that we have strived in our lives on earth to do!!! That I am striving to do!!! May the Lord bless you Bishop Barron!!! Your sermons make me reflect, are encouraging, as well as questioning the conscience at times!!!
I think this same thing with everyone a Bishop Barron’s families. He is such a gift to our time. I have no doubt he will be known in history as one of the lords greatest messengers.
I am a member of Illuman (started by Fr Rohr) and did the Rights of Passage! Complete transformational and completely agree with your sermon! Thank you for addressing the issue of a culture of immaturity head on.
Thank you Bishop Barron. You are on point again. Sometimes our lives become too complicated and busy from work and family needs that we forget our purpose. Love and serve God as His children.
Thank you Lord for your annointed priests, specially for Bishop Barron! 12 years ago I started to follow Bishop Barron and since then I started to comprehend much better the magnitude of God's love for me and for each human person. It helps me to understand that isn't an easy path to reach heaven, that we will find many obstacles, and that we will find ourselves sometimes out of the way, but constant prayers and going to confession more often will help us to endure and get back to the right path. Thank you Bishop Barron, God bless you always!
Thank you, once again, Bishop Barron for your sermon. Lately, they have been challenging me to stand strong in our Catholic beliefs, even when I expect opposition. If I may say something a little about safe spaces - to my understanding, the motivation behind the opening up of these spaces is to give people whose narratives/voices/worldviews aren’t normally heard (whether that’s because the majority are usually the ones whose voices/stories are most vocalized/hearkened to, or because these people have lost their courage to express their views due to lack of support or resources, etc.) a chance to have their say. These spaces may seem bubble-wrapped and not in accordance with the harshness of reality, but I believe that’s the point. By creating these spaces, the hope is that they can help people gain courage in expressing their stories, as well as encourage others to actually listen to views that may be foreign to them instead of shutting them down.
Come, Holy Spirit, come Transform our faith, hope and love. Ps 103:1, Mt 18:22 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?' Jesus answered, “Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times.” 😇Jesus, I love you
Thank you Bishop..... can't go a week without listening to you. You are so in tune with the culture of today. It must break your heart to see these children of God acting out!!
Thank you for this wonderful reminder, that life is all about serving God and others. God is the centre piece of our existence, He created us to love Him, to know Him and to serve Him.
Every Sunday I listen to your sermon, I say to myself: "This is the best sermon you have given." Comes next Sunday, I think the same. Small humor here. Recently, my wife and I moved from Chicago southwest area to rural Plains. Originally, the area of our new home was settled by German-Cathollic immigrants. It remains overwhelming Catholic today. In asking myself how I could explain Bishop Barron's, Words on Fire, to my neighbor farmer down the gravel road, who is deeply religious in his Catholicism, I pictured myself saying how Bishop Barron is down to earth. He grew up in Chicago where I lived for 55 years. He played and followed baseball like many regular Joes from Chicago. "I've been bought and had a price and I belong to this higher power, Jesus Christ living his life in me; and that's an invitation to real spiritual maturity and real spiritual adventure. *- Bishop Robert Barron*
Now a senior and coming back to the Church, I see a lot of people who worship the Christ of the imagination which is idolatry. I'm guilty of that too and it's easy to fall into. I came to the conclusion that in order for me to get "fixed" it makes perfect sense to go to the One Who created me. I am realizing that who I think/thought I was is really a caricature and not who the Lord created me to be. The task of personal prayer now is for my Lord to reveal to me who He intended me to be. I believe this may be one of my favorite homilies of yours - - among many great ones - - to date. As much as I welcomed the reference to Richard Rohr, to whom I am very grateful for his example of humility and wisdom, I especially appreciated your recognition that idolatry of youth, rather than the embrace of wisdom that comes with age, is central to our current meaning crisis (John Vervaeke's term). There are perhaps other causes as to why people feel so groundless and fearful; but it is hard to find comfort when problems requiring maturity present themselves, and everyone in the room has only been educated on how to be childish. I am acquainting myself with the book, The Fourth Turning, and hope that the next cultural shift will be one that celebrates wisdom and maturity as much as we currently value novelty. Long post, but that's the natural result of a thought provoking talk. 😊 May God continue to bless you, and us, with your wonderful insights.
Thank you for another brilliant sermon Bishop Barron. May we pray for all to turn away from the culture of narcissism and live for the Will of the Lord. Amen 🙏💞🕊️
...And also important to not just note, but to know and believe with all our Heart...we have been purchased, true,,but NOT TO BE ENSLAVED By The Purchaser...rather, TO BE SET FREE...from the bondage of slavery to sin, aka the evil one...Yes...as The Rev. Bishop Barron reminded us in One Of His Eloquent Discourses, To Be Ourselves...NOT in competition with The Omnipotent GOD, but, (dare-say) enjoy Togetherness With 'N In The Omnopotence❣
I've been blessed with a long life and had time to think about my life and how much I wasted in doing so much wrong. Self inspection is good and can be bad for the individual, and in my case, it hurts to have wasted so much God gave me. I enjoy your sermons.
Thank you, Bishop Barron for always challenging us to think beyond what we already know. I can attest to the fact that when you live for God and demonstrate that in your love for others, you have achieved a high point in human existence. It’s when you experience overwhelming joy and awe.
Thanks Bishop Barron.
Been a fan of yours since you were Fr. Barron making commentaries on movies.
He nailed it: contemporary society treats adults like children and children like adults
AMEN!! I have finally accepted this reality. My life is not about ME anymore! God Bless you Bishop Barron.
Bishop, you are living saint . Thanks be to God for you.🥰🙏
These sermons are marvellous I look forward to them every week and reflecting on them

Exactly! We are bought with the precious life of Jesus our Lord. Thank you Bishop Barron.

Thank you bishop. I am sharing this forward. Beautiful.
Thank you Bishop, praying for you.
Bless you more Your Grace
Great summary of how we become adults in the world and the church
Thank you, Bishop Barron for always challenging us to think beyond what we already know. I can attest to the fact that when you live for God and demonstrate that in your love for others, you have achieved a high point in human existence. It’s when you experience overwhelming joy and awe.
