  • I'm installing a hot water recirculation pump on the existing tankless water heater. My customer didn't have a hot water recirculation pump for years but the house was plumbed for it. It was just never installed. He told me that he would have to wait 20 minutes for the hot water to get to the bathroom sink. Also his shower valves were never calibrated so it never got hot enough at the shower. I fixed all that on that day.

What Grundfos model circulating pump did you use? Was it a 595916? Any issue using those on the exterior of the house? I would like to do the same setup at my house in Florida

It's a Grundfos RCP96 KIT that includes a built-in check valve, flanges, 3/4" valves and timer. Cost about $800. And they say it could be installed indoors or outdoors.

I think the hose bib goes before the pump to purge the line, no expansion tank and check valve ?

The host bib goes after the pump to purge the air out so the pump will be pumping only water and not air.

And the check valve on the cold water prevents hot water from going in the cold water we can’t see one unless its inside

@@javierprado6545 The check valve is built into the $850 pump. This pump came with two valves and a check valve assembled.

The built in check on the pump doesn't stop hot water from feeding into the cold side where you tied in!

I hope that's not a gundfos pump says on the box and website cannot be used with tankless WH. Hole in the bridge valve is too small. I learned the hard way.

I buy these pumps from Ferguson pipe and supply. They always make sure to give me the right pump. This pump works with Tankless Water Heaters. I've been buying these pumps for over 30 years. I think I know which pumps to buy. Thanks for your comment though.

Ferguson is my LAST resort! They think they're shit is gold compared to all the other suppliers, and if they pull your order amd you don't check it before you leave, 9 out of 10 times your going back because somethings wrong. I've installed dozens of those grundfos pumps on different tankless also. The right pump does work.

@@nickmac3426 I had to find a private company out of California to get the right one. The standard one from depot says in their literature "not for tankless". Sounds like we go to the same Ferguson LOL yeah they can be very frustrating I check every time before I leave

No insulation? And how did it take 20 minutes to get hot water? My boiler is really far away and takes less than 2 minutes

    • @richyyaz

The homeowner said he'll take care of the insulation. It took less than 2 hours to do the installation. Now he gets hot water at the showers that are far away unless than it 5 seconds.

I usually don't use a Propess when I'm installing a hose bibb or a purge valve. People can yank on the hose and loosen the pressed joint. It's happened before.
