    Not being a "Ford Guy," I was impressed hunting last month in Kansas riding in my buddies 2013 Ford F-150 FX4 (eco-boost). The Winter storm that hit December 6, 2013 was a great concern, but his FX4 handled highway snow, ice and mud at speed, and crawling with Perelli Scorpion tires??! The tires looked like something you might expect to see on a Camaro, or Charger, but they "worked!" Kudo's to the Ford Boys, they built one helluva truck...

      It's a great truck, those tires are overpriced junk. I own same truck & tires.

    Wow, real surprised how well it handled that mud on those tires. I just bought a 2012 F150 5.0 4x4 and love it. It's lifted on 35" Toyo Open Country's. Has 4x4 with the ELD. Can't waint to see how well it handles offroad.

    People on here are asking if its a5 liter v8 or an EcoBoost v6 this is actually relatively easy to spot. Just look at the front bumper if it has a large air gap in the middle with the license plate holder to the driver side it's an EcoBoost. The air vapid there to force air into the intercooler. If the license plate holder is in the middle it is a V8 or naturally aspired V6.

    • @Imightberiding
      @Imightberiding 10 лет назад +1

      That's a good tip on how to tell the difference but he did state it was an EcoBoost in the video. It was also in the specs shown towards the end.

    • @lesleymrick
      @lesleymrick 10 лет назад +1

      Yeah. I understand that completely "Imightberiding". But even still you had people asking. Regardless if it was in the specs at the end of the show or not. So I just said it to add some clarification to the comment section. But thanks for the comment.

    During that time I went full throttle to snap the back end around, and then it gripped in the mud and I could really feel the power. The sound was from the gear in the back seat moving around. The locking differential is controlled by a button inside the cab, and it doesn’t lock automatically. So it only engages when the driver pulls the switch. ^Brad

  • @Skott62

    51k is just the list price. No one should ever pay list price for any new vehicle. My 2013 Ford 150 FX4 has everything loaded on it and it listed a bit over 51k but I only paid 39k for it. 2013 Ford trucks usually have around 9k-10k in rebates if you qualify for all of them. Shop around people and dont pay list price!

    • @Skott62

      Rebates mostly. At that time Ford was giving out at least $10k in rebates. Plus good old haggling with the dealer.

    not to mention the ecoboost motor provides 5hp more than the 5.0L V8 as well.
    Aaaaaaaaaand even the stock 3.7L V6 has more hp than the 2009 4.6L, 2V and 3V. Just thought I'd remind y'all.

  • @EngineeringGoneWrong

    Put some good all terrains on that truck and it will do even better than it did. I really like that electronic locking rear axle it is a good feature. My dad's Silverado has the post trac axle on the z71 package and it is very similar but under a lot of stress it will still let only one tire spin. I think the locker probably stops that from happening without breaking stuff to boot. Nice vid

    • @robertvasquez6011
      @robertvasquez6011 9 лет назад

      No Silverado has ever had a posi-traction rear end

    • @EngineeringGoneWrong
      @EngineeringGoneWrong 9 лет назад

      The g80 is technically a posi traction unit as it locks both tires in full 100% power when it detects 100 rpm of wheel differential speed.
      That being said, IMO it is not a "real" posi traction device because the tires are not locked in 100% of the time EXCEPT when wheel differential speed is needed for turning.
      So the g80 is kind of 50% posi 50% limited slip...because it doesn't really totally fit the definition of either as a true limited slip cannot have an even torque split to both tires, one will always have a bit more or less speed as they aren't locked in.

    The raptor still exceeds any F150 in mud. Larger tires, more ground clearance, more suspension travel. It comes wth BFG AT's as opposed to pirelli's. Only difference between an FX4 and other trucks is that it has bilstien shocks.

    • @davidlecroy432
      @davidlecroy432 2 года назад

      That's not the only difference. FX4 also has skid plates, hill descent (which may be a newer option since you posted your comment), and rear locking differential. Normal 4wd does not come with locking rear diff.

    This is a beautiful truck, but It doesn't look like an ecoboost. There isn't any eco boost badging on the doors and it has a flex fuel badge on the tailgate that is only on the 5.0 V8. The front is also missing the license plate holder that is shifted to the left to open up space for the air entry for the intercooler. Just a thought unless for some reason it was removed

    The Eco-Boost V-6 has comparable torque numbers at a much lower RPM, plus its a twin turbo... The best part is it gets 15 mpg city and 22 highway... This technology is easily worth the 51k price tag.

    There's not really much point to adding a more powerful engine to the F-150 lineup. The F-150's current max tow capacity is primarily limited by the strength of the transmission and rear axle, not a lack of power.

    i have a question, does a truck like this have a "stability control" where if you start to fishtail, it will apply the ABS and straighten out the truck? I am a proud owner of a 2011 ram 1500, and any time the truck senses it is getting the least bit sideways at any speed in 4x4 or not, it applies really harsh brakes and slows the truck down till its straight.
    anyhow, I am not a big fan of ford, but I got to hand it to them for this decently looking truck!

      In ford trucks, the 2 1/2 door models and the 4 door models only slightly vary in price. If you build a truck on their website the price difference is only a meer $2800. When buying a $50,000 truck this makes little to no difference. Also dont forget, with the 2 1/2 doors you get a larger bed.

    • @thegreatga
      @thegreatga 10 лет назад

      Are you crazy? $2800 bucks is a huge difference, maybe 500 isn't bad. But 50K is 1/2 the cost of most small homes. And you can get a long bed w/4dr.

    • @trey8543
      @trey8543 10 лет назад +3

      How is that? The Silverado has the same weak auto g80 locker they have had since the 80's in their rearend. The ford has a selectable electric locker and a larger rearend, plus you don't see the Ford's snapping CV axles on the front end near as often as on the GM's. The GM trucks tend to be a little quicker but the Fords are the better built trucks. Look at any construction or oilfield crew, 9 out of 10 will be FORD. Just take a look under each of them and tell me which one is more heavy duty. An F150 looks like a GM 2500 underneath.

      because the raptor is 10 grand more. also the raptor wouldn't have any advantage for what was done here other than stock tires being better and the 4.10 ratio.
      the long travel suspension on the raptor is more for dunes/desert racing.

      Cause the dealers don't discount the Raptor and the Raptor gets 10 mpg all the time. This truck you can get $10k off sticker....so the raptors 15-20k more with shit gas mileage.

      Do you ever heard about Land Rover Defender?When i was kid i read "Born Free" 1960-1961by Joy Adamson about a lioness criated by one family in Kenia (Africa),probably you know the movie.In this book one vehicle call landrover "helps" them in their every-day life.Than i thought that landrover is kind of car like sedan,statition wagon ,coupe etc.Later when i grew up i understand that is a brand of car,but for their offroad capabilities between the people the name of the brand became name of the type of vehicle in general.Here in Bulgaria we have one name for offroad vehicle(djip-pronouncing jiip) and i´m shure that is for the brand Jeep.Someone says i will buy myself one "DJIP" and he buys Toyota for example,not Jeep .Jeep is one of the best offroad machines too.

    Oh, man, you call this off-road? I'll do this on my Dodge Caravan (except maybe the part where it got stuck).
    That's more like off-road:
    Нива и бездорожье

      Yes..."Ford suck!!"....guess that's why it's been the best selling truck for over 40 years running! Not only the best selling truck, but the best selling vehicle in America PERIOD for over 40 years! Considering these things are about the lowest maintenance vehicles you can possibly get....I would hardly say that "Ford suck!!" More like " FORD = MURICA = AWESOME = BACK TO BACK WORLD WAR CHAMPS!" #youmad
