Great tip. Took longer to get on the waders than to get the outboard to drop from the stuck raised position. The outboard dropped all the way down, but then the power lift worked to raise it to proper operating levels. Big help!

This worked on my ProGuide V16 when tilt stopped working in up direction with less than 50 hours on the engine. You made it look easy lifting that 60 Merc - but I have a 75 and it takes 2-3 guys to lift that engine. Merc needs better quality control in their Trim System.
The manual release screw for my mercury 225 is plastic and it cracked when I attempted this. It now leaks from that screw. Looking for instructions on replacing this part. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks to the video went much faster than expected. Except for seating the gromet that the wires pass through under the cowling. Is there a trick? Took me 45mins and sore fingers trying to reseat the gromet correctly.
I have a brand new 60 and I connected the battery and tried the little tilt button on the motor. It tilted up all the way and the tilt motor just keeps running and running. I disconnected the battery. it won't stop tilting. What mow?

We used this tip last night. However the guy removed the screw completely and I lost some oil. I followed the instructions to lift, lock and fill the center. Motor runs, but will not move the motor.
I have a 1979 merc 115 hp. How do I manually put the motor down? I don't know where the screw or valve is. Can you show me in a video? IF it wud help, I could send u a picture /very short video, of the motor. Thank you
Thanks, I have an issue with the plastic bolt... I purchased a used boat with a 135 mercury motor. When taking it out for the second time the tilt and trim motor got stuck in the down position. I seen your video about releasing pressure by turning the screw. when I found it, the screw head was already broken off. What can i do at this point? I have checked everything and found that the motor is not working and both relays are good.
Evan Cordero any luck? I have this exact problem. The plastic screw, which appeared to be so easily removed in this video, would not budge and now the slot is stripped out.
Try at your own risk... Choose a larger flathead screwdriver than you have been using. Heat the tip of the screwdriver so that you can melt a new slot in the screw. Allow the plastic screw to return to normal temperature. Now you have a new slot in your screw head!
Ron Jones Thanks. This is exactly what I did. Still had to take entire tilt/trim assembly off so I could get enough leverage to drive heated screwdriver blade deep enough, then put a pair of pliers to the screwdriver and FINALLY got it to back out. Had to drain most of the fluid out and hammer the piston back down. Certainly wasn’t anything like this video!
No. I wound up getting one on Amazon that was almost the same but it didn’t seal properly. Leaked fluid. After that I went to Bass Shops and purchased an OEM one and it’s perfect.
Well heres qhat i got 50hp mercury bought it guy ran water to it started nice took to lake put it in water wont go over 10 mph we tied off with another boat for about a hour went to start it wouldnt start got towed back to dock trimed the motor all the way up for 30 min it started rite up

Remember to use the brace (if you have one) to keep it trimmed up as you drive it out of the water on the trailer.

I cannot BUDGE this screw. It’s defecting to where the screw notch is going to be destroyed if I continue trying.

How do you keep it from turning when trailering? There is a lock rubber but for this one it doesn't quite work.
