- Experience the Rubicon Trail by watching FJ Cruisers, two Lexus GX 470 and a 4Runner tackle the rocks. In part one we start at the Loon Lake trailhead and end getting to Buck Island Lake Campground.
The Voo Doo blue FJ did the Soup Bowl ! nice work .
Yes! He's on 37's which helped. Good eye! Thanks for watching!
The Lexus GX is the wealthier, hotter, and more athletic cousin you rarely see at the reunions.
Such an awesome vid! It’s nice seeing FJs out there putting in work!
Thank you!

These toyotas are so damn capable off road. Absolute monsters.

How does this channel not have more subscribers? Great video! Great to see the Toyotas on the rubicon 👍
@mars7374 thank you!
Awesome video. I'm too particular about my own vehicles to do this kind of serious off-roading but its awesome to see what they are capable of!
MORE FJ's!
Love your videos! Its great to see people getting together from all over the US and sharing adventures!
Really awesome!!
It seems really like what we do with our FJ 1/10 scaler on mountain paths...!
Thanks for sharing!
Hannah & I chickened out. We backed out even before entering the Gatekeeper, lol. Very nice video Ken. Many thanks for capturing the epic event. I can't wait for Part 2.
Sorry I didn't capture you guys, I was way in the back.

Great video!! Keep em coming. 👍
Thank you, I will!
It’s nice to watch this even if I’ll never beat up on my own car like this 🤙

Driver, driver, driveerrrr lol. These videos are as close to the Rubicon as we'll probably ever get, thanks for sharing, looks incredible.
I'm glad you liked to dialogue 😄 I sometimes laugh at myself in these videos... Thank you!
Really enjoyed this video and liked the history along the way. What an intresting trail.
The Rubicon is truly epic!
Have a voodoo blue FJ, best truck I’ve ever owned.
That’s some great 4-wheelin there!
There should be at least a million follower here those videos are awesome
Thanks! 😍
Awesome video!! 👏👏

Oh I cant wait to get my 09 FJ set up for this.
The Rubicon is amazing, you'll love it!
Here i am in CT with an fj and there are no offroad trails.
@@Kana0211 there's got to be something out there!
@@offroadhub.official i could go through saltwater as im next to the ocean but my car would turn into a rust bucket lol. ive found some trails near me but even a sedan can go on those. information is also very scarce
Great stuff!! I wish I could have made this trip.
Awesome group of rigs nice to see other 4 wheelers instead of jeeps don't get me wrong jeeps are sweet too though
You don't see too many groups of IFS Toyotas on the Rubicon! Thanks for watching!
Nice job on the videos! Like many other commentators have noted, when playing videos of the trail, natural sounds, voices, etc., are better than music. Some of us use these as instructional videos and recon for when we will do this trail. Btw what size tires was the 4runner rolling on?
Thank you! The 4runner is on 37's.
I agree, I muted it. I did enjoy the footage though!
Music wasnt bad at all
I like seeing IFS rigs getting it done
Awesome Video. To extreme for my FJ. My kid ran the Rubicon in August with a group of Jeeps. I'm guessing you will go SXS like Eric did if you're going to run the extreme stuff but that new Marlin kit would be way cool. Staying with the Toyota heritage of IFS...
Your videos are great.
Thank you! Yeah I'm planning on going one tons. I want to go with the older Land Cruiser heritage of a solid front axle... 😀👍🏻I'm glad you're liking the videos, thanks again!
Nice FJ! You should do a walkaround video of everything you've done to it.
Here you go! Thank you for watching!

Offroad Hub Lol shoot and I even looked for it before I asked.
Great Looking Rigs, Great group of Friends!! Thanks for the video!! The music over takes away some what from the trails sounds, IMO. I Subscribed :)
Thank you! And on the music yes I absolutely agree. I was yet inexperienced at editing video and hadn't really found my style yet. Maybe one day I re-release this video with far less music.
@@offroadhub.official Absolutely!! Thank you for the videos!!
I have an fj, but something about that Lexus I like.
the V8 maybe? haha...there is actually a lot to like
I love the Lexus
Loved/Enjoyed the HECK out of this video.. Nice to see a few 4.7s out there as well.
What up - DI Dusto's friend here - DUSTIN.

Id like to know the build sheet on that GX470, Starting on one of those soon possibly!!
Great video. If I was to ever build a Toyota it’d be the FJ. Too bad they’re not making it anymore.
It's a great platform! I'm sure Toyota will get back into the FJ someday.
Great video!!! Looks like you all had a ton of fun and am a bit jealous. Shoot us an invite, we love to join you all.
That would be great. Do you mean for the Rubicon or just any trail?
@@offroadhub.official Any trail. We love to get out and wheel.
That Voodoo and those 37s!
Check him out on Instagram @iconicfj_ 👍
Not sure If I'd ever feel ready for that trail, lol. My poor 5th gen with 34s probably wouldn't stand a chance even with Steel bumpers and full skids.
You could make it through, but it would be a challenge for sure. 👍
I’m doing Rubicon next weekend in my Fj. Really looking forward to it. How much did you air down?
13-15 psi seems to be a good range without beadlocks.
Thank you :)
White Fj: “So anyways, I started blasting”
the Blue FJ’s tires are MASSIVE
37's to be exact. Same size as the 4Runner and GX.
Offroad Hub jeesh... and i thought 285’s were big! definition of monster truck tires
@@TheSlvrGR86 my little 35's are 315/75/16.
So what if I told you we did a bunch of the same trail in Subarus with 30 inch tires in 2003? :) Cool vid, the scenery is spectacular.
Sounds fun!
Not going to pretend that my stock Trailhawk KL Cherokee can do it, but sure looks like a fun trail.
It's amazing! The Rubicon lives up to the hype!
The white FJ's were taking a beating.
Great video!!
Thank you!
4th Gen 4runner❤️
That last white FJ is beat up…
Yes! 😂 This video was made shortly after my Busywild experience...
Can you do a build video?
That's a good idea. Thank you for watching!
Seems like same one or two person giving thumbs down on all your videos. They must hate IFS FJ doing Jeep thing. Btw, anyone with 33" tire?
That's ok... Everyone likes different things. Everyone on this outing had at least 35 inch tires, a few 37's. Thanks for watching!!
I reckon the spotter probably walked most of that trail. Did a great job though.
Oh yeah lots of walking... Sometimes it's faster than driving. 😄
He told me net to wear seatbelts. BREAKING NEWS! He clearly has a new girlfriend. BRILLIANT
Very cool. But I just don't get how somebody can go out and beat their FJ to a pulp like that.. Is it really worth it?
I didn't get any body damage on the Rubicon, so it wasn't beaten to a pulp at all. There were a couple minor incidents of body damage on other's vehicles, but nothing terrible.
Passenger... Ahhhh!
Toyota heaven!
7:35,,see those boulders on the flat plain,, dropped off by glacier..a while back..
I love geology. Very interesting.
Great vid, you got yourself a subscriber. Looked like you guys had an awesome trip. One of these days I will attempt that trail. What's the spec on the white 4th gen? regeared? locked front/rears? 35's?
Thank you! The Rubicon is a blast! The white 4runner is a V8, 37's, Dana 60 rear, LT front with RCV axles, locked front and rear.
@@offroadhub.official Wow... what a build!! Does he have a channel as well?
@@slixxster5118 no, but his brother with the blue FJ is @iconicfj_ and there are some photos of the 4runner there.
Крутое видео! Привет из России!!!
KUDOS! Loved this vid!
Thank you! The Rubicon is amazing!
No Way i would take my FJ through that . : )
Wow awesome.
Awesome video! Loved every minute. Don’t know how I missed this one. Great spotting and footage. We might go hit it this summer. Was the trail worth the trip? Those tire changes suck. Did you try seating it with a CO2 tank? I’ve got a DIY 10 lb CO2 tank and I seated my last popped bead with it. Worked out pretty good. Not sure if you have tried it before
Thanks for watching! The Rubicon is the most amazing trail, absolutely worth the trip!! There are also other great trails in Northern California worth checking out. As for tires, we actually had another flat earlier in the day, and we reseated that one with just an ARB dual cylinder air compressor. There was some reason we couldn't do that with the one in the video, I think maybe the sidewall was damaged. But yeah, do the Rubicon, you won't regret it!
@@offroadhub.official sweet! Thanks Ken! Do you think 3 days on the trail is best? Late August? We’re the mosquitos bad? I hate mosquitoes 🦟
@@Colorado4x4 3 days would be good, camp 2 nights on the trail. I was there in late July last year, I don't remember having any mosquitos. We took an entire day off the trail camped near Rubicon Springs on the river. It's beautiful and worth the time. Bring a way to filter water for drinking.
@@offroadhub.official awesome. Thanks a bunch. We appreciate it!!!!!
That’s rad
Thank you!
Which do you feel did better. I want to build a gx 470 for the rubicon because I like the look but function means more to me
The 470 and the FJ are functionally almost identical, except the 470 comes with a V8.
I wonder how much you guys spend in spare parts when you come back from those trips
Nothing broke for me on this trip. Sometimes things break, sometimes they don't.
I'm just curious if the 4th gen 4runner had any front or rear lockers?
Can’t believe that Gx made it. Is everyone on 35s?
Both GX's were on 37's, along with the blue FJ and the 4 runner.
@@offroadhub.official man video does not do you justice. Great video btw!
21:48 Soup bowl
Hey brother new subscriber here. Love your channel. Great content. I want to do this trail soon. My platform is gx470 on 33s 3 inch lift no gearing or lockers. Whats your advice. Can I do it as is or?????
Welcome aboard! On 33's you'll be dragging a lot, make sure you have solid protection! With no lockers you'll struggle, have recovery points front and rear, and people willing to give you a tug now and then. Can you do it? Yes, but it won't be easy!
So you're saying there's a chance lol.....gotcha im definitely going to save up for 35s and lockers and bumpers before attempting. It would be nice to do it now but I'm patient. Thanks man. Keep putting out that great content.
@@g8rayrr yeah, it could be done 😄 but your factory bumpers probably won't survive... Sounds like you'll need to gear up a bit more to make it less damaging.
@@offroadhub.official i definitely will. Keep an eye for me in the future. I'll be out there soon. 💪💯
Hey I did see the inside of your FJ cruiser while you we're driving it seems like you do care about the inside. So if yours is an 07 through 12 or 14 not exactly sure but you should get your seatbelt reinforced so it doesn't cause cracks . It's free cause it's a call back. Hi remember me. I'm not being faucetious.
I'll have to see if mine is covered, it's a 2010. 😉
@@offroadhub.official just sent you a picture of my safety report!
Sway bars disconnected on any of these vehicles?
Most have removed sway bars. I had my front sway bar on for this trip, rear removed.
More gx470 action please. Do they wheel as good as the modified FJs?
Yes they're just as good as an FJ. They're extremely similar.
@@offroadhub.official new subscriber here. Keep up the good work. I just bought a gx470 so love the content . I also have a hummer H3, Chevy zr2 Bison and a Toyota Tundra all with front and rear lockers we run in Wyoming ! Keep it up !
@@drjhunter I need to explore Wyoming more! I did the Morrison Jeep Trail, that was amazing. I want to get over there to do Christina Lake over near Lander. I live in eastern Idaho.
@@offroadhub.official The road to Christina lake is slow and rocky but fun. Beautiful up there - early in spring it is wet and muddy with lots of 2-3 foot deep water/mud holes to cross and several creek crossings .
@@drjhunter sounds like a good time!
Where do I find the build on the gx470 ( dark gray one)?
Try contacting @zman377 on Instagram. Thanks for watching!
Imagine doing it in a conestoga with a team of mules
The Rubicon Trail has been more of a road in the past. During its historical use it was far smoother. Fill dirt and gravel have eroded away, rocks have moved, and we're left today with the 4x4 trail we know.
Stock jeep Rubicon on the trial be like "nice lift bro I want one too"
A stock Jeep Rubicon would want a lift, and some real skids. A stock Rubicon "could do" the Rubicon, but it wouldn't be pretty.
You’ve never been on the rubicon
I have been..... but as a passenger

Debating on taking my 4Runner on 33s lifted with skids and sliders on the rubicon
Honestly I wouldn't want to do it with smaller than 35's. On 33's you'll be using your skids A LOT! Even on 35's there's a lot of sliding over rocks.
Offroad Hub yeah I get what your saying. Haha my skid plate is definitely not for looks though. Did holy cross on 33s here in Colorado and that was definitely a challenge. To me the hardest part about the rubicon will be how long it is and the opportunity to make note mistakes

No he does not.
I have a Lexus lx570 on 37s. Only center diff lock. U guys think I can make it through rubicon with good spotter and line?
Yes you could 👍
Hey man, I've heard some horror stories with taking the roof rack off. Was your factory like this or did you take it off?
This one came without a roof rack. It has the factory plugs and has never been a problem. 👍
What size tires on the FJ?
35's on all the FJ's except the blue one which is on 37's.
#OffRoadHub Awesome video 👏🏼. Love the FJ’s 💪🏼✊🏼
Thanks for watching!
Were any of those FJs that made it through with your group running anything close to stock?
No, not really. 35s were the smallest tires. Doing the Rubicon in a stock FJ would likely lead to a lot of damage. Thanks for watching
Offroad Hub I bet. That trail looks super challenging. Mine is bone stock right now. I took her off roading once already. Did some pretty decent hill climbs and crawled a few rocks.
