      Same! I’d love to buy a vintage WW2 fighter, but a couple million dollars will probably never be in my budget for an airplane, so this is probably the next best thing.

      I don't even want to buy a plane, but I enjoy learning about tech specs and economics of technology/human culture. I am a slight technology nerd (anything electronic, things that move, things that smash atoms, and architecture).

  • @StarStrider99

    Fantastic video! A little disappointing to see such a high cost for this one, but hopefully the industry for these types of sleek high-performance planes will grow in the future.

    • @thatguyalex2835
      @thatguyalex2835 2 года назад +2

      Actually, there is a high performance plane prototype (2021/2022) called the DarkAero 1 ($150K), which should be released sometime this year. While I don't buy planes, I like learning about sophisticated technology. This DarkAero 1 has a top speed of 275 mph, a ceiling of 20,000 ft, an empty mass of 750 lbs, and a maximum weight capacity of 750 lbs. Economy speed is 255 mph, at 12,000 feet. DarkAero is located in the Midwestern USA and is operated by three young brothers apparently. This plane popped up in my recommendations. The only issue I have with this prototype is the fact that it is not up for sale yet. Lol...

    • @huzcer
      @huzcer 8 месяцев назад

      @@thatguyalex2835 "this year" - that is still nowhere near being available more than 2 years later. also it's a kit plane with 1,500 hours to build if it ever actually does become available... so 1,500 (probably more) hours to build + $250,000 cost. You can buy a blackshape second hand now for $130,000 or less maybe.

    The few times I've gotten to fly one of these were all lovely, definitely a very fun plane to buzz about in. My only complaint is the seats, which are little more than a thin bit of leather over a metal sheet. If you've got a bony arse longer flights could prove a tad painful but apart from that it's an absolutely brilliant machine.

    There's one French ultralight that would make sense for you to check out since the aim was to offer this kind of speed for the lowest amount of money possible; the whole airplane is cheaper than a Rotax engine with a fuel burn as low as 2 gal an hour (in eco cruise around 120 kt), it's the Gaz'aile2

    Have you done the cirrus vision jet? I think those in the very light category would be a very nice fit for this series. As often newbie aviators dream about the sexy turbofans while also wondering if they're worth it to them over a more standard piston or turboprop

    • @thatguyalex2835
      @thatguyalex2835 2 года назад +1

      I suggest the A380, aviation's *biggest* mistake, in more ways than one. Underutilized passenger capacity (only 450-500 seats used out of 850 in an all-economy config), Qantas engine explosion, discontinued in 2021, and a huge fuel gulper. :/

    • @TheLiasas
      @TheLiasas 2 года назад +3

      @@thatguyalex2835 I know all you've said is true, (and I sure would also like an episode on those) but man i Can't bring myself to consider the a380 a mistake. At the time they went for the design, there were some clues it could make economical sense, and airbus took the gamble upon pioneering (maybe) progress. + It's such a beauty. Forever i was way more impressed by the a380 than the 747. "its a full 2 story plane" duuuuuuuuude lol
      kinda hope it remains operational even if for some special missions for a long while just for it to being kept relevant

    • @thatguyalex2835
      @thatguyalex2835 2 года назад

      @@TheLiasas I loved the two story design also, but airlines only utilized 60% of it's rated design capacity. All Emirates, Qatar and British Airways did were use the plane to show off their luxurious $10,000 first class cabins with showers and stuff. That wasted cabin space could have been used for some economy seats. I am hoping for an 850 passenger configuration of the A380, but sadly the virus killed this plane off.

    How can at Rotax-912 burn 8gph? It burns 6 gph at takeoff climb in a Sling-2 running at max power. And 4 gph at 70% cruise power. Now, the Sling-2 cruise at 95 TAS but that's 'cause they prioritized simplicity over aerodynamics, and it's fixed gear, of course.
    Maybe these have a Rotax-914 in them? That'd do 8 gph. Also easier to believe 148 kt cruise with an R- 914
