  • Lecrae gives praise to Jesus in his rhymes, doesn't cuss in his rhymes -- but also doesn't like to be categorized as a Christian rapper.
    This MC stopped by Sway in the Morning and opened up about groupies on the road and how easy it is to look through the temptation.
    "if you live for their acceptance, you'll die from their rejection."
    Before he left our studio, he dug into Sway's Mystery Sack and answered some intimate questions. Watch above.

    I appreciate how honest he is while still avoiding explicitly saying certain things (Whether or not he's still active in that fraternity, whether or not he says the n-word, etc). He's one of my favorites and seems like a really cool, authentic and funny dude.

    I love Lecrae. The one thing that always hurts to hear is a Christian not liking to be called a Christian first and foremost. Lecrae is a Christian rapper and should be proud of that fact. Not that silly thing where they call him a rapper who happens to be Christian. What is bad about being known as a Christian rapper. What is bad about being called a Christian therapist. What is bad about being called a Christian "insert your profession here". I do not get Christian being afraid to call themselves Christian before anything because if you are a Christian, then that is your title and should be happy to carry that title. Trying to please the world isn't going to get you anywhere you want to be.

    • @ImCeeJay
      @ImCeeJay 10 лет назад

      I do like his response to the whole being a Christian rapper. God can work through anyone at anytime and I have no problem with nonchristians listening to his music if it hits them in the heart.

      He wants to reach out to a broader audience who may not find him if that title is attached to him. Kids today are into the trendy thing but being proud of your faith is not always the biggest trend among the youth. So many kids may not give him a chance if they hear he's a Christian rapper. However, if somebody said “hey kid, check out this new cool rapper cuz he got bars!" They may give em a chance and then realize he's a man of faith through his lyrics. Best :)

    I like this but sometimes I dont like the "pick on the christian and see if he slips and his lukewarm like the rest of us" vibe....I mean do yall joke and offer pork to muslim guests? Would yall joke and ask these questions to the president or a strong black political figure? Why you even ask these questions of say a Russel Simmons or a Diddy? Youre sitting there talking to the president of Reach Records who is leading many souls to the God who made you and you play with him like 5th graders? I dont mind jokes and silliness but what a way to show bankruptcy of character. I say, keep up the good work Crae!

    • @welcome2thekingdom
      @welcome2thekingdom 10 лет назад +1

      He's the standard so he want to ask a real questions. They not trying to kill his character they challenging. With pastors cheating and stealing money they need to make try you to see if you're real. Those moments create ministry moments. The low self-esteem comment wouldn't have been heard if he didn't ask that question.
      Diddy and Russell went through their fair share of challenging questions (Charlemagne)

    I'm just gonna say this. There's 4 things u don't argue about; Sports, Race, Music, and Religion. It's just gonna be an on going conversation with no point. So can't we just be happy that we have Christian rappers that are spreading Jesus through the world and not try to claim that they're not Christian and all this nonsense.

    • @Himihan
      @Himihan 9 лет назад

      Why don't you follow any religion? Do you know why music can evoke emotions easier that any other sound? Because it touches your spirituality. Humans are spiritual creatures. We have souls.

    • @MaddieMadness
      @MaddieMadness 9 лет назад

      Josh Schulz That doesn't mean we have to follow or believe in some man made religion. Who says that we have souls anyway? Can you prove this? Or is this more based on your opinion and interpretation of your religion?

    • @Himihan
      @Himihan 9 лет назад

      Where do you think the term "I got soul" came from? There are certain things like music, spoken words, written words, visual art, ect, that "touch" you, or connect with you on a deeper level much more quickly than if you were watching something funny, or listening to the sounds of the city while walking down a busy street.
      So when you hear a really beautiful piece of music, or piece of art, it instantly evokes emotions that give you perfect catharsis.
      So if humans evolved from monkeys, how could we have developed are brains to love and connect with certain art so quickly, if we've only been intelligent creatures for this short amount of time? Keep in mind that humans have always created art, such as singing, playing instruments, painting, ect.
      (You also completely ignored the question I asked.)

    • @MaddieMadness
      @MaddieMadness 9 лет назад

    All I have to say...listen to Joshuas story and at 16 minutes and 23 seconds. listen who he say his wife serves. I've seen many interviews with Lecrae, hes a "slickster" as the older people will say. Do your homework people, dont just listen and watch for entertainment. KNOW WHAT YOU'RE LETTING IN YOUR SPIRIT!

    • @Delightnureyes
      @Delightnureyes 9 лет назад

      I had to listen a couple of times but I caught it. That's tough... Joshua sounded very excited and was rushing through his story and could've just tripped up on his words... I do it when I try to rush and get out what I need to and then afterwards I'm like," Did I really say that?" I can see why it would be disconcerting +Dee Martin, but I really think it was his excitement that caused that. I love Lecrae because his life and his choices bring hope to millions who are "turned off" by Christian music because of what they think it implies. He's literally bringing the Word in a genre that's literally the belly of the beast...

    Without a shadow of a doubt, it's not that Lecrae is a Christian rapper or a rapper that's a Christian; Lecrae is New hiphop, point blank...

    I am not judging ya'll but when he asked him if he uses the N word he could have explained a lil bit about it instead of saying that he ain't perfect right? I am also a black guy but i kinda got confused on that question n answer. Have your say!!

      @Himihan 9 лет назад

      What he meant by "I ain't perfect", was he would never say the N word if he could, but he knows he can always slip up. If he was perfect, he would gladly never say the N word, but he isn't, so he slips up.

    Whether you claim to be Christian or you're a follower of Christ we will be ridiculed, discredited, and persecuted. Jesus has been through all of this and morewith no sin. They hated him without a cause. They even called Jesus Satan because of His miracles. It's funny to me how things haven't changed. It seems like we have more Pharisees in the world than people actually having a relationship with Christ. If you are still breathing and not incarcerated is only because of Grace. Grace is undeserving favor. We truthfully don't deserve salvation or any of the blessings, but God is faithful and just to forgive us. Striving for perfection doesn't mean we are perfect it's only improvements. This makes me wonder if people really believe that Jesus is fully God and man, because we exalt ourselves too much. It's one thing to imitate Christ, but to act as if you don't sin is mocking God (making Him a liar). Those that exalt themselves will be humbled and those that are humble will be exalted. We must walk in Christ but we must know our place as well or God will put you in yo place. Look what happened to Satan (Lucifer). Pride = unforgiving = destruction. Love Over Everything

    I am torn. Lacrea is an exceptional lyricist. I appreciate his clean, socially conscious work that challenges the framework of the stereotypical secular artist. My issue or my confusion is with that he represents. I thought he was a Christian rapper, but as he said and many of you have explained, he is a rapper, who happens to be a Christian. When we hear the world Christian, we automatically tie it with specific expectations of the way one should behave that lines up with the WORD of God. After listening to some of Lacrea's songs and this interview, he's starting to sound more secular. This is not to judge, Im just trying to figure out what he's all about . That's imperative to me because I dont want to mistakenly look to him as a representation of a Christian rapper. I'm trying to find new music that is set forward to minister.
    Then there's the hip hop issue. Hip hop can't be tied to Christianity. Hip hop is a religion. It has roots that are opposed to and/or opposite of Christianity. Many people don't know that ir choose to ignore the facts surrounding hip hop. :/ I'm torn. He's a very talented rapper!!!! Lacrea replaces Wayne, Drake, and the other rappers killing the brain cells, but he confuses the Word, tge walk, the people. .. :/
