You’re so right. Prince was not a performer, he was an experience!💜
Honestly have we ever seen anything close to Prince in this lifetime??? Hollywood wouldnt be able to make this up!! Simply the GOAT. Simply a FREAK OF NATURE! and im pretty sure The Purple one is watching over you Brian, & appreciating like all of here, for keeping his legacy alive. Great reaction my Freind!!
This was Prince’s THIRD show of the day. He started the day with a BBC radio performance, a full show in the evening at Wembley Arena (presumably with a full sound-check beforehand) and then this aftershow. That’s why his voice is so hoarse. Mayte was looking gorgeous. These were Prince’s best years imo (93-97).
I concur
💯🎯👍🏾
I absolutely love that performance. It's like he never got tired. He really loved his fams (fans)
Great reaction, you’re not alone in having Michael Bland and John Blackwell at one and two as far as his drummers. I think the majority of his fans feel the same.
agree
Love the chaos and disorder jam with peach a very cool mix Prince was just having fun and giving his all No matter how big or how small a venue was.A true legend whose legacy is set in stone.Keep up the wonderful work my brother
Peace and be wild
Was definitely an after show . I was there. He came on at 3am . I had the experience, went home and got showered and went to work . Couldn’t believe I had seen prince in a venue with less than 1000 people.
A lot of the times Prince used the aftershows to rehearse the band and experiment with new songs and concepts. Some of the aftershows I've been to were in my Top 5 Prince shows. Michael Bland is the drummer; he currently plays with Soul Asylum and Dr. Mambo's Combo at Bunker's - a local live spot in MPLS.
Prince was definitely one of a kind. I was blessed to see him live 8 times and each time was a completely different show. Prince was always changing his styles, bands and his music. The man touched more genre's than anyone. He could go from Rock to jazz to pop, R&B, Rap, Funk and even throw some swing music down incredibly. Definitely one of a kind. I know you're a guitar guy but you should check out Prince on piano too. Absolutely incredible musician. He was the G.O.A.T.
He was so the BEST 💜 wish I had seen him live! I bet it was an other worldly experience! Just the most talented musician ever!
I totally agree Sally!
Love how Prince went from performing Peach to Chaos & disorder in this show. Also a lot of people don't know this but he's playing with a broken string here. That's why he put his thumb up at the end, it was to say to the crowd "hey we jammed! it worked" & that's also why he trashes it lol
If you just listen to the guitar and tune out everything else, he's doing so much on that thing, that it's mind blowing.
It sure is! :)
Prince obviously loved this song. He played it a lot. I think it's a cool song.
You are absolutely correct Sir.....Prince is in a class all by himself. I've said this before....we are so incredibly blessed , in this lifetime to have witnessed the brilliance of Prince Rogers Nelson....thank God there are videos and recordings of live concert footage, along with his vast catalog of unforgettable music as proof to future generations as evidence that an individual of such magnitude actually existed....I love your reaction, I too am amazed....and at times, I inwardly pinch myself......that I was blessed over the years to actually be in his presence, by way of his concerts, 8 of them !!!! .......what an experience !!!!!! PS......and he's still the baddest in all the land !!!!!!!
Hi Arlene, I hope you get a chance to check out the interview we did with Susan Rogers recently.....
" Nobody can compare to him". That's why he was my favorite since the 1999 album. That's when I found out just how talented he was. It just blew my mind. Had the awesome privilege to see him live twice. Had great seats for both but on that 1999 tour I was right in the front. Right on the stage. That was in 1982 and it's still the best concert I've ever seen. My mind was blown that night lol. Enjoy your channel bro 👊
lucky you my man!!!!!!!! One of my biggest regrets in life is not seeing him perform live!
It’s priceless watching your face as you watch the O(+> footage. It’s worth watching for that alone.
The more I watch these, the more I miss him. Stay healthy and b funky. 💜
This show at Bagley's is notable for it's intensity; the 'throwback' arrangement of Peach fit in well with his Elvis cover of Jailhouse Rock during this performance. It may be worthwhile to compare and contrast this version of Peach vs the iteration at the 2009 Montreux show.
Great stuff 👍🏼 one of my favourites. The aftershows were epic. I actually saw him bin/fire a sound technician in the late 90’s at London Hippodrome. He wanted perfect sound even for these shows which often didn’t start until 2 or 3am. He’d also play a full length show of 2-3 hours. We were all toast afterwards. I have no idea how he did it. Sound checks, main show, sound check, aftershow… and then again night after night. Two shows never really the same. I miss it so much. The hardcore fans felt like we were in a secret club with a superstar, that no-one else knew about. The concerts were great, the aftershows - legendary 😎😎😎
Awesome
Great reaction. If you can ever get a hold of some of his soundchecks...they're EPIC and better than most performers concerts.
I don't even know if we can considerer Prince was more talented than others. He just was on another level. He was something else. Everyone is an artist in his/her own way. Some are talented, some are very talented, some are geniuses... and then there was this cat from another planet.
I love your face when he threw the guitar. 😮
At this decade, Prince’s world got rocky. He found out that money was being used by other people thinking PP was a club for all of them and so called friends. While they were partying, he was in the studio doing music. He was not a flashy or big spender except for his charities and family that he helped, such as educating nieces and nephews, buying homes and cars and generally looking after their needs. Prince didn’t drink alcohol or take recreational drugs and I think the costs from friends at PP, went on a tab without his knowledge at the time. He was kind and generous and learned a hard lesson of when success changes people’s attitude to you. He also realised what WB contract he signed at 19, really meant as to the ownership of the unreleased music in his vault. They told him it belonged to them. The more WB bought in new execs as others retired, the less appreciated he felt. He still had more power than other musicians. Mayte thought she was pregnant and they got married Valentine’s Day 1996. The tragedy of his son’s birth in late October 1996 and death days after was nearly the end of Prince and his music. End of everything as he did attempt suicide. Larry Graham saved from the deepest depression he had ever been in, in his own words. To have to watch his son suffer and then agree to effectively end his life by shutting off his breathing apparatus was so devastating. He wanted that child more than life. The 1990’s were so traumatic for Prince. He was thin, angry, feeling very isolated, his marriage was over by 1998, he wrote on his face slave, his parents died in early 2000’s and it seemed he was lonely.
Great Reaction again Bryan! I love this performance. You are right, this is an aftershow. I can’t believe he had so much energy still. He would do hours of rehearsal and soundchecks, then hours of the actual show, then hours at the aftershows and still have so much energy. That’s incredible! I come from a performance background and after an hour show I’m exhausted. lol Another performance that I really enjoy from this show is “The Ride.” It has a great solo as well!
@Penelope Sighs Thanks! It is one of my favorites too! He kills it!
That hair and outfit!!! That call and response from the audience!!! That guitar playing is intense! I used to refer to this time as Prince's strange phase...but I loved it all the same. Michael Bland did an interview on Prince podcast..he's a really cool guy. Seeing Prince was definitely an experience...nothing else like it.
Good to see you're feeling better..hope you taking care :)
Thank you SD from the 'Shwa, man I'd love some pancakes from the Rainbow! :)
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar You're making me wanna go to the rainbow..lol.
HI!!!
Amazing performance, I ve got this one on videotape (VHS). In the same aftershow you ve got "The Ride" and "Call the Law" with two amazings guitar solos!!
Check out The Ride, bro. Awesome song, awesome performance

After Prince’s death, Paisley Park were selling those Cloud guitars. I got this yellow one for £1950. I love it.
Were the guitars replicas?
@@bolder2009 you'd have to do a Google but I think they were licensed replicas from Schecter?
@@thesolitaryadventurer - yes, made by Schecter. They sold leftover stock on eBay for the same price.
@@thesolitaryadventurer Ok. Thanks!
'The kind of girl u want your Mama to meet - she's Peach'.
Very good reaction.
Tony
Yeah his sound checks were like 2 hours long (which is crazy in itself), then he’d have a 2 hour show on tour, and then to UNWIND Prince liked to do these aftershows which could go on for hours til like 4am. Often times they would be announced the day of or with very short notice.
And then of course in between shows on tour he would go into the studio and record for the next project(s)! I’ve been listening to this guy since 2018, and I’m with you, I still can’t wrap my head around all that.
You might want to pick up a copy of Duane Tudahl's books on his studio sessions. So far we have 2 books - 1983/4 and 1985/6.
They chronicle his life as a daily calendar and to see the schedule written down is unbelievable. At 600 pages per book, it just goes to show how busy this guy was.
Staggering work ethic and creative drive.
@@thesolitaryadventurer yes definitely have heard of those! They seem like insightful reads
He goes into the riff from a future song called Chaos & Disorder towards the end & he got his energy from God 😂
This is the era with unsubstantiated rumours of 'chemical help'. Rumours I don't believe but I'm sure will pop up again in comments on videos around this time period.
It's not hard to see how those rumours started when he's as hyped as he is at the end of this marathon day. He's probably on 22 hours without sleep here assuming he woke at 7 or 8 am for the BBC event that morning... He could have pushed straight through and been awake for a good 36 hours which would be crazy - 2 gigs, radio spot, aftershow.
Yeah 👁 always go back and forth with John and Mike on drumz as well; they're BOTH actually 2 of my ALL time faves. 😉
Both are amazing drummers for sure! :)
Great reaction. This was a great time to be a follower of Prince's music...so much intrigue and anticipation of what was next. Combine that with no internet and all those old ways of doing things like tickets, new releases etc!
I'm thinking around that time was the advent of dial-up for a chosen few ?
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar Possibly...I think I may still have been researching via encyclopaedias etc!! Got onto the net around '95 on the old AOL dial up lol
You're the best reaction man out there my friend. I look forward to your videos every time i get on the RUclips. I thoroughly appreciate your Prince reactions. Especially since, as you said yourself when you first started, that you are green on his discography until recently. I love your honesty and openness in these videos as an elder and expert musician. Thank you! Peace and B Wild ✌️
This will blow you away. He did concerts in the 90s where 30 people only showed up.
Not just that, he did rehearsels, show and aftershow.
The drummer is Michael Bland and he's very powerful as you can see but if you want to see versatility, listen to the long version of She Spoke 2 Me....listen to his playing on that.
The aftershows really took off during the Sign O’ The Times tour. I think it was a reaction to playing a rigid main show from the Purple Rain tour. That was 99 shows with virtually the same set and he was sick of touring for a year or so.
This is his way of unwinding after the main show. He gets to play different stuff and joke around. And he really was very funny during these aftershows
Hey mate, this was from " The Sacrifice of Victor " Great reaction, I still have this on VHS along with " The undertaker " Good work sir.
Very good Brian, ur right, basically a man without compare!
Right! The hole packade> NObody! compares 2 him! A kind of car that don‘t pass u every day. When u r lucky, he pass u in your life. So thankful that he was in my life and i saw him,
i don’t no, about 20 times. so thankful 4him, and yes, even so so blue 4the rest of my life that he is not there anymore.
Great reaction.
I was there that night/morning. He broke a string on the last solo. So played the solo using a different area of the guitar than usual, in an instant. At 5am. Not my favourite song but it has a lot of energy live
That was a long day.
Played a mini set for Radio 1 in the morning
A Full show (Last night of the tour) at Wembley Arena
And then this show at Bagleys until dawn
I was at the front at that aftershow and he didn't come on stage until around 3am after he performed at Wembley earlier
Great version of this song at the montraux 2009 show 2 straight after all shook up
The drummer is Michael B. (Michael Bland); he and Sonny T. (Thompson) joined Prince at about the same time (though Sonny was actually an early mentor for Prince)- I've read in several places that they both had perfect pitch.
Another thing I've read in multiple places was that there weren't just aftershows (which Prince said he needed in order to come down from the high of the main performance)- when they left the aftershow, they had to watch tape of the night's performance in order to critique themselves. Sleep was definitely not a requirement for working with Prince 😴😁
Highly Recommend Little red corvette live 2009,that guitar is crazy
Peach is a Chuck Berry tribute in my mind.
Yes, mine too!
Michael Bland is the drummer, he’s a beast 😁. This is one of my favorite straight rock tracks of his; there’s an amazing 10+ minute version of it on the ONA Live Aftershow LP. His aftershows were a lot looser and crazier than the arena shows, and they went all hours ☺️. One of the best shows I ever saw was his after show in NYC in the ONA tour. It was him, George Clinton, Musiq Soulchild, Alicia Keys, Doug E Fresh, Candy Dulfer, it was insane. Still not entirely convinced I didn’t dream the whole thing.
@Penelope Sighs there’s video of at least part of it floating around lemme see if I can find it
@Penelope Sighs here you go: ruclips.net/video/03fkUQzX1zU/видео.html. That's got the version of Joy in Repetition that they used for the live Album, plus George's appearance 😁
@Penelope Sighs but of course. Enjoy 😊
Mr Yes You Can...pls comment on the fact that not only can this guy play, he is all over the stage!! Who else...who...can cover this much ground...literally so much real estate on the stage?
And still be playing an instrument!
The drummer is Michael Bland. To a lot of fans he and John Blackwell are out favorite drummers that Prince had. Each brought something different to the sound of the band.
You’re right, but couldn’t imagine playing a 2-3 hour stadium show then a couple of hours later playing for another 2-3 hours. But as they say “If you do what you love 💗, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
I remember way back then I caught the entire show on MTV at around 3AM. I feel a skatepark with the TV on and woke to this performance. I couldn’t find a blank videotape to record it on and was disappointed with that. When I woke up later I thought I dreamed the whole thing.
Selfishly speaking I want his estate to release the music of the New Power Trio ( Prince guitar and vocals, Sonny T. on bass and vocals, & Michael Bland on the drums) I want it all to consume. 🤪🧐🧐
Hey Y!YCPG, Here is my personal favorite version of this song. He’s played it 5, 6 different ways, It’s called The Ride.
ruclips.net/video/mvQ62bX_keQ/видео.html
I really enjoy watching you watch these. I'm waiting for the day somebody requests something from the dirty mind or controversy tours. Particularly Head lol.
😂
The aftershows, in my mind, were where he really got to be himself just enjoying making music and people dancing and partying. It was common for a good portion of the audience to leave a concert when the encore started to get a head start to the aftershow venue. I should have done that myself... or just traveled to Paisley when he was still alive and holding parties at Paisley.
Right with you on taking the plunge and heading to Paisley while he was alive. No idea how I could have flown in not knowing if he would lay or was even there... But I should have.
It wasn't long after that year that I did some security for him in the state I live in... I made him laugh a lot, he loved good jokes, lol. I got a picture with him back when I was buffer, ha ha... I'll see if I can post that picture on my channel somewhere.
Yes exactly! So cool!
Fun fact. The "moan" sample is Kim Basinger. An eighth behind the 3.
He got a plastic carrier bag filled with £45,000 (about $60,000) from the promoter to play this gig. It was all last minute, he was meant to be paid after the show, but demanded it before the show or he wouldn’t perform. That’s my recollection from the time anyway.
Interesting....
Awesome performance and reaction as usual! Another performance at around the same time period you should check out is Jungle Strut. I think that one was at an after show in Miami in 1994?
I was there somewhere in the back.
Peach is a rock song!
💜🐾
yep was @ this show as well. (aftershow) but it was way 2 crowdy. (CHEck out call the law from this same gig) Michael Bland was His best drummer.
That Woman on stage with him was his soon to be wife Mayte. Yes, it was an after show club gig. That was Michael Bland on Drums. He was before John Blackwell.
I was stood at the front watching this show, it was a intense experience, good and bad.
They let way too many peolpe in and people where fainting and passing out from the heat, the club was making a lot of money in tickets.
Secondly, prince actually took a back seat at this and let a lot of others sing ,mavis staples, the game boys.
The good - he was having fun and he rocked the crowd big time.
On" call the law "and 'the ride"
He is shredding his ass off .
Yes its a jcm 900.
Prince used to take a b12 shot sometimes before his gigs to give him a boost.
He was stage acting with mayte about her jumping in the crowd as he was laughing offcamera After
I saw a lot of aftershows from this tour and ironically the one he chose to film was in my opinon the least entertaining.
In true prince style when he walked on stage he literally just appeared through the dry ice.
Its still bad ass though
I have this recorded show - it's awesome that you were there. I agree with the highs and lows of his aftershows in general; the downside includes the excessive 'guest appearances' stage at times...
Was also at this Aftershow (after being at the 2 performances earlier in the day) ,at the side near the fire exit, stood talking with Seal and a few other celebs. There were quite a lot of other celebs and a few film stars there.
Definitely way too overcrowded and much too warm. Security nearly started a riot when they wouldn't allow some people to leave due to the crush and heat.
Wasn't the best A/Show of the tour imho, The Forum and Paris Rex Club were miles better, possibly even The Mirano and Flughafen.
@@ED-jy1de I remember seal being there
@@ED-jy1de i also went to the rex club, that was incredible... blew my mind , good times dude
@Tony killer
Sheila and John were his best drummers for me.
Michael Bland is the drummer...thats Prince 1st wife Myte Garcia dancing.
Las Vegas call out - That’s the type of ending he wants
Drummer is Michael bland
MICHAEL BLAND is the DRUMMER 🥁 I love his RUclips interviews about PRINCE so informative 👏🏽 ENDING of 🍑🎶 after show performance remains me of a PRINCE *(🎸THROWING GUITAR) story. I remember PRINCE doing the Jimmy Fallon late night 🌙 show. He had the ROOTS as a BACK UP BAND to 3rd EYE GIRL performance of hit song SCREWDRIVER🎶 and BAMBI🎶. PRINCE borrowed The ROOTS lead guitarist CAPTAIN KIRK DOUGLAS prized GIBSON epiphone while playing his 🎶 2nd song BAMBI 🎶 finished by throwing KIRK'S prized possession on the stage floor breaking it. KIRK was upset but equally a FAN of PRINCE he asked PRINCE could he sign the broken guitar 🎸 PRINCE declined say he hasn't signed anything since the 70's 😢 This is a story available for viewing. I might have missed some of the facts but it can be equally GOOGLE for good measure 🙏🏽
Haha! So true. And really mean of him. He did get it professionally repaired but still, not cool.
I saw a copy of that guitar in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
At this stage (at this creative phase)he really does seem like a reptile, as Bobby Z said, rather than a human. A rare fascinating reptile...Michael B. had the most power imo. Mayte gives 101 percent 😉
Amazing show, happy audience and some very interesting comments here. Thanxx ☸💜
Since you like MB....you should checkout the full "Undertaker" video. The power trio of MB, PRN, and ST.
The drummer is Michael Bland, a.k.a. Michael B. I agree with your opinion that he is very close to John Blackwell. I think Michael B. gets overlooked because he was playing during a transitional period. For pretty much most of the 90s, Prince did not really have a commercial following, plus the dispute with Warner, name change, etc. His work was still good, but not as commercially popular. His tours also were not as extensive. In the 2000s, when John Blackwell was with him, Prince was still not “pop” by any stretch, but he really became more universally recognized as a top (or THE best) live performer; he had his most memorable live performances during that period; and he did most of his rock/guitar heavy performances while John Blackwell was playing. It didn’t hurt that John Blackwell is a great showman in his own right.
Their playing styles are different but man they are so good and so is their meter.... I have to say that I like them both equally now :)
That’s really interesting. That’s the beauty of music. Not to try to change your mind, but here is a performance of Sign of the Times from Prince’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. This was the night he performed “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, er al. (This was part of a set Prince did to open the show.) The whole band was so tight, including John Blackwell and Rhonda on bass. ruclips.net/video/kl7H4mPmvBI/видео.html
Mike B is the man. Please react to Mike B and Sonny T backing Jesse Johnson from The Time playing “ Machine Gun” live
Unpopular opinion, I like his hair during this time lol.
I love this video... he didn't look happy with matey going crowd surfing...does anyone else think that... great reaction as always Bryan
Edward, I think I recall that Prince held competitions within the band… whoever did the most outlandish thing onstage got a pay bonus. Did you see Mayte stage-diving in Berlin, during a Peach performance there? The crowd gave way and she fell on to the concrete floor. She was covered in green and blue bruises for a few weeks after that. It’s in her book. Funny stuff.
@Penelope Sighs Hi Penelope..yea..I ve always thought that...I wouldn't go as far as he pushed her of the stage but he didn't look happy..maybe u r right..concerned about her getting hurt...have a lovely day everyone.
@Penelope Sighs tbh ..i.ve always thought that Penelope...I just didn't want to say...i.ve seen him throw his guitar before but normally there's someone to catch it...but he was angry...u could tell .
I prefer Michael Bland, but just by a hair. Both great.
He is awesome for sure!
it's Victor or Kafka or Prince
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡💙
Michael Bland.
You echoed my thoughts....whenyou look at the whole package nothing Compares to him
@Penelope Sighs much appreciated 🙏 Penelope..hope you are feeling blessed an wonderful today..
Another great performance by the Purple Yoda. Were there ever any bad ones? Michael Bland is a good drummer but I loved John Blackwell's animation on drums, he was a show on his own. Can't stand Mayte Garcia though lol sorry 'bout that! 😆 He did look pissed about something by the way he threw his guitar on the ground at the end.
I have a question for the narrator..Could you explain to me why Jimi Hendix is considered the greatest guitar of all time?? Me personally i think Prince is a far better "Iive" guitarist than Jimi Hendrix!! I know I'm gonna lose this debate!!! Plus love your videos!! You the man!! 🎸 🎸 🎸
Great question Anthony, that deserves a video answer! :)
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar Can't wait!! I really value your opinion!!! 🤜🤛
@@YesYouCANPlayGuitar probbaly because he died too young so he went toofar for his age considering his achievements...so its a clichee
I just foolishly mentioned a website in my comment and it got swiped... I'm not typing it all out again. 😔
Is it similar to Johnny B. Goode in composition? He would play Peach with it quite often.
@Penelope Sighs I feel bad now... So here goes again.
There was an account on The Org (this stated in full is what got the comment removed I believe) back in the day where somebody mentioned that the aftershow was overfilled as security were selling the tickets from those inside to people gathered outside! And the free for all when doors first opened meant a lot of people ran in without tickets... So it was jammed. And hot. And a 3 hour wait. And lots of beer consumed to "hydrate". Only to have P come on and then leave so Mavis could do her set and T/D/K do a set... Then Prince comes back out and isn't happy with front of house sound and then he sees Mayte getting groped as she crowd surfs.
So the end product was him telling the band to get off the stage and then smashing his guitar down.
Given the fans had done a BBC mini-concert (which was brilliant by the way, some of the tightest playing that band ever did) then the Wembley Arena gig and then the aftershow... What a marathon. True funk soldiers.
It's one aftershow I'm glad I was too young to even entertain! Sounds like a nightmare and we have the video to watch so it's a no brainer to me!
@Penelope Sighs Just when you think you've seen everything, he gets you with a surprise!
It won't be the last time we see that face. 😂
I believe a good musician makes you want to pick up an instrument. But a great musician makes you want to put it back down again. Prince was the greatest.
Great post!
… and a suggestion for a future reaction. This is my favourite clip of Prince playing. ruclips.net/video/ExV0ls_5wQo/видео.html I think Santana himself might say ‘too good’
I think he lost his temper due to a broken string. He was very angry with the world, as you will read in my earlier comments.
That same Gig he plays a song called The Ride that is 10 times better than this song. Remember, if you play it it's the version from this gig.
I've sent you links to it before.
Michael Bland plays more in the pocket. And, no, Sheila E is betta lol
I actually feel like I underrate sheila's chops. I relate everything I hear to prince, so I'll listen to a really good drummer and be like sheila could never. Then ill find myself listening to something from the era and being pleasantly reminded that she is an extremely talented drummer. She has some really interesting fills too
That’s a bold statement, brother. 🥺😉😉
I don’t think you realize Prince WAS music…
Not a good day in Prince fandom. The show was amazing, but fans had to stand in the heat for something like 3 hours.
Would of been better if that dizzy girl wasn’t behind him. She was a mess
jan, sorry I'm just getting to this now, the comments section has really been growing. This comment had me laughing in stitches lol
