I'm a project manager. I started as a bricklayer. I'm from a poor, settled travelling family. I was a site manager for many years and went to uni as a mature student for the PM degree. It's not about colour. Or background. It's about being able to cope. And being good at what you do. And also being culturally aware...like...you need to learn how to act, collaborate and hold yourself. You have to grow into a mature adult and be responsible...and promotion comes quickly. Salaries are great too. But no one gives a f*ck about your background or heritage. Ive got one of the worst thought of blood lines in travellers. I have a criminal record. I was trouble when i was a bricklayer. Drugs alcohol fighting. None of it has effected my progression when i finally grew up!!!!! You don't get something for nothing. Be the person for the role and the role will come.
I studied plumbing level 2,3 and today I just applied for Construction management projects course for university. i really hope I can get it so I can take my skills back to Africa and use it there for the greater good
I just got a job as a project engineer in training, I appreciate these videos very much because it gives me knowledge and inspiration to tackle this new challenge in my life. Much love from America
I've been told by 2 managers to go for a management position. A lot of responsibility, but rewarding once you know what you're doing and see the end results
Being able to build something that is going to last 50-100+ years and serve the community can be challenging, but the gratification will stay with you forever. 👷♂️
Would you recommend going through construction project management through an apprenticeship. If so what free or cheap courses would you recommend I do to increase my chances of landing an apprenticeship for myself
I'm just starting my internship w/ an electrical subcontractor here in Texas. I'm nervous and excited....I have come a long way, ex-con w/ a second chance and making the most of it!!!!
Hope it’s going well bro, I tok went jail some years ago and just got accepted to do a Bsc in construction management starting in Feb. can’t wait. Don’t let no one tell you, you can’t do something. Respect bro
I was in a dilemma of going for either construction project management and supply chain management for my second programe in fanshawe college. As a civil engineering major, honestly this video was of great help deciding between the two, I think now i know where my heart belongs.
I'm 32 applying for construction management apprenticeship degree! With 5 years maintenance electricians background... hope I'm making the right choice 😔😔
As an International Student who recently completed Master's in Construction Management, what steps do I need to follow to get my foot into the industry?
I lost my job last year due to covid, always been interested in construction. Spent a year doing joinery and painting with city and guilds. Just been accepted for HNC Construction Management absolutely buzzing to get started but have no idea how to get my foot in with a company! Loved this video especially talking about mental health, good to see the management taking it seriously!
Love it ,you speak from the hart, I found if you are strong charismatic, a good problem solver love to build, get though it and say we built that , its the most satisfying job you can wish for.
I’ve been in construction for over 10 years. Over the years I’ve been promoted to lead, supervisor, onsite supervisor, and now superintendent. These titles are given within the company I’m at which is a small family company. How do I expand to other companies and apply for these positions I’ve work at for so many years but received in an untraditional way?
Would you recommend going through construction project management through an apprenticeship. If so what free or cheap courses would you recommend I do to increase my chances of landing an apprenticeship for myself
Hi sir, finally I'm writing my thoughts down here. Your channel has really inspired me. I spent a whole day going through your videos when I was preparing interviews for a site engineer role abroad, I'm soooo excited about this role. Even though it is true, I didn't realise how much this industry is worldwide saturated more importantly, how this has an effect on the everyday life of Indian engineers I grew up in India and 7 years before completed my B.TECH(CIVIL- ENGINEERING) and now I am doing normal civil engineer job in india !! This is so embraced and I feel this is a headache I still can't move abroad I am trying it. I want to encourage Indian engineering students, especially those from the Indian community and with lack of English barrier and also it being their second language, to follow their dreams to become an engineer in Abroad. Only one chance to give me I will perform definitely
I appreciate you shining light on the fact that there aren't many ethnic people in higher positions in construction. This video gave me so much hope that I can change that.
The most recent study said that the most likely people to recommend construction were ethnic minority groups. So...its just the man keeping people down with a perception. No one in construction gives a flying f*ck what colour you are. If you are competent...you get the job. Simple as. It's a ridiculously tough career...is likely why. More than anything else. I know at least 30 white people that aren't in construction management roles anymore. Gone. That's not looking good for it being a 'white mans' job is it. That difficult all the white people are leaving 😂😂
now im in my final year of studey, degree in civil. i still thinking about what should i do after i graduate. either be engineer or be project manager. anyone can you share any ideas.
I've reached a point in my where I want to have a career change to construction from real estate. Where should I start any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Anthony, can I ask for some advice. I did my BA in journalism then a master's in Marketing Management but the office isn't for me. I went to work for JCB and was fascinated by diggers and construction. I now want to work in construction as a manager or site supervisor. Please if anything can you give me the best and honest advice. I have heard from my master's degree I can do project management so I'm hoping it leads to construction project management.
I have been in construction since I left school I’m 25 now, I have NVQ level 2 from college in groundworks and general construction (blue CSCS) I’m going to soon upgrade my 360 CPCS red to a blue skilled operative and then later on in next couple years go for the SSSTS, be a groundworks foreman then work my way up to site manager. I feel there’s more garnered respect from those below you if you’ve been there and done it in a few aspects of construction, no disrespect to the people who have uni degrees in various construction areas but I know what people say about those who have gone straight from uni to being above them.

Very inspiring. I have been working in the construction industry as a plant machine operator for so many years now but currently, I’m undergoing the (HNC construction and the built environment) 2 years program at Sunderland college. I will be completing my program by July 2022 however, I have been trying to get a role as a trainee assistant site manager before next year September when I will be furthering my education in construction management degree at the Salford university in Manchester. Please what advice can you offer to somebody like myself who is struggling to get a trainee assistant role as well as a work placement role? Thanks
