I may be in the minority, but the Pawn system is what makes this franchise my favorite of all time, I don't always want to play with friends, but I also don't want to play the sole badass all the time, so having a talkative 'blank' follower who grows and learns by how you play allows my imagination to paint them how I want. This allows me to make the adventure fully my own. The combat is fun, the exploration enjoyable, and the Pawns just allow me to do the heavy lifting in terms of imagining how my fellowship got together and their dynamics. It creates such a fun experience in this seamless open world, and I want more. If I want party memebrs with deep stories there's plenty of those (Infinite Wealth was my fave of 2024 in that aspect), this is unique, and it is a niche no one else tries to fill, and honestly the most enjoyable gaming experience I had in 2024. Can the game improve with a DLC? Hell yeah! The foundation we have is amazing, and I am hopeful Capcom gives the team the necessary time and budget, to make this game even bigger!
Yeah as someone who played a good amount of dd1 and dd2 these ppl definitely overlook alot of what makes these games good they don't like something in a game so it's immediately bad or not good i bet he doesn't even now secrets/tricks with the pawns like how they will call you out for having only women in your party or how you can teach them to feed meat to wolves.
@@Gems56 I will say the comment that pawn inclinations are just choosing what 5 phrases are regurgitated to you is disengenous. The inclinations not only dictate the voice and voice lines, but also their idle actions, their battle tendencies, as well as some other small things like Simple Pawns playing catch with you if you throw and animal at them lol. Is pawn chatter repetative? Yes. Does that add to their charm in both games? To me, it does. lol. Like I said I'm very biased as this game fits my very specific niche and interests. As for the fast travel complaints, I'm sure they'll add an eternal ferrystone in the expansion, like they did in DD1. That said, the ox cart gets you to the towns fairly quickly, and unless you are just trying to finish the game as quickly as possible, the travel time is not too bad, especially when your pawn gets the area badges and can guid you through short cuts to specific locations, I don't miss fast travel in this game personally, especially with there being NO LOADING SCREENS, the seamless nature of the open world make this game an absolute joy to exist in imo.
@Gems56 I think you're overlooking the point of the video. I really liked Dragons Dogma 2 but felt that it fell short in some areas that I think could have skyrocketed it up to being one of the greatest games of all time. In my conclusion I state that the game is frustrating more than anything because I can see the potential but it never feels like it fulfills it. And yes I've played through this game and beaten it twice, I'm very aware of what the pawns are capable of in and out of combat. I just don't think that the pawns "secrets" even if they're really cool, make much of a difference in terms of the quality of the rest of the game.
@@ProfessorPowGames ig we can agree to disagree bc I have a hard time finding other games that fullfill the potential dd2 does so it kinda makes up for it's flaws other games don't have as good of pawn/party systems unless they are co op and that's not the same and ferrystones don't bother me they are easy to get most towns have them cash is also easy to come by other games don't have climbing combat or flying combat and much more dogma offers.
@@Wachalpharoh I'm personally really glad you like the game and the franchise a lot. Again, I dont think Dragons Dogma 2 is a bad game, I think it's a great game that has flaws that hold it back from being amazing. The idea that the pawns are blank slates that grow around you as you play and grow their own personalities and set of behaviors is an awesome concept and I do think it's what they are going for but I just don't think it's executed well. And yeah I said in the video that I was being hyperbolic with the "same 5 lines" statement, but the reason I said it was because what they say is of such little consequence and meaning thay they might has well have only had 5 lines of dialogue. Plus things they say have no bearing on specific actions you take, or how you handled certain situations. You could literally have the worst fight of your life where you go down like 3 times along with a bunch of you pawns, and afterwards they might say, "that was executed flawlessy!" heck I'm pretty sure they never even say a single other characters name outside of "the arisen" for the entire game. They don't feel like characters and they certainly don't grow into characters by the end. If you try to do everything this game has to offer you will hear the same repeated lines of dialogue from your pawns literally 100's of times, and for me that ruins the entire illusion that they might be growing and changing as I play. I do really think you can make a game with almost no fast travel work but you need a super interesting world with new routes to take and new interesting things to find along the way, but here, once you discover the fastest way from one place to another you just go back and forth over and over and over running into the same enemies over and over and over, it makes the world feel static and uninteresting. But I respect your opinion and I defiantly don't think your wrong about how you feel, I just wish I could love it as much as you do essentially.
@ssuniljust4u Fair enough, they are very different games. I enjoyed DD2 a lot but my biggest problem was that it could've been so much more if it didn't get in its own way yknow? But i'm interested to hear your thoughts when you finish the game!
Having played all the soul games I always felt that the lack of move sets for the playable character was a let down. The bosses and some regular enemies do so much. Combos, jumping of walls, flying around, teleporting. All we could do is block, poke, or slash in one or two directions. So much stamina spent dodging or blocking that when an opportunity came only one hit could be done. Meanwhile bosses and some enemies do Tekken combos. Full on 10+ hits Tekken combos. I don't need every ARPG to feel like Dragon's Dogma combat. I do feel that FromSoftware needs to seriously work on player combat mechanics.
@mobilegamer4956 yeah I feel like elden ring specifically has so much stuff that could fix that issue with the spells and ashes of war but 90% of them, especially the cool ones, take wayyyy too long to execute so they're basically a death sentence. But despite that, I find the fact that the bosses are so diverse with their moves is what gives the combat its variety, so you still have options to adapt. I think there's definitely a conversation to be had about how the combat only really pushes players in one direction. There are options for build variety, but I do think they're very poorly communicated within the game itself.
I feel that the reason my generation is able to enjoy Dragon's Dogma story, both of them, is because we grew up watching soap opras. General Hospital, Guiding Light, One life to Live, As the World Turns, and others. This is what Dragon's Dogma is. A soap opera. Regular life still exists and is on going admist the extraordinary or convoluted journey of the main character. Same is for true for Harry Potter. We got the grand story of the wizards but we always knew of the muggles. I feel that Dragon's Dogma does a good job of portraying both normal life and the grand adventure without the normal side feeling tacked on.
@mobilegamer4956 I think that's a fair point, although I don't feel the same way. Soap operas still have memorable and unique characters no matter how poor, or overly dramatic the acting may be. For me DD2 introduces 2 or three characters with potential, but then it forgets about them almost immediately, so if the game itself can't be bothered to care about it's characters then neither will I.
@WanderingRagabond Harry Potter is an objectively successful IP, and I think one of the biggest reasons is because it has unique and memorable characters. I mean, Harry Potter, the name of the main character, is the title of the series.
@ProfessorPowGames Maybe so, I used to be a big fan. But given the author, it's an IP that should be rejected into irrelevance. Other examples would have illustrated your point just as well.
@WanderingRagabond I think that perspective is valid, but, like it or not, Harry Potter became an entertainment empire, so if divorced from personal feelings about the author, the story of its success can and should be used to learn lessons from. I'm not interested in dictating to anyone what they ought to enjoy, I just think that when trying to critique and analyze media, there is value in studying various works, even if you disagree with some of them.
JK Rowling is so transphobic, she said only women are women, we shouldn't like Harry Potter anymore. It should be relegated into the fiery depths of modern irrelevancy. Nevermind that the cinematic series was one of the best performing in history. She's transphoic, so we hate harry potter now
"I bought this the other day for $40 on Steam. It was on sale, and I like it! It's been fun. The fighting especially the giant beasts are the best parts. There's a lot of running around, it crashes sometimes ... " I wouldn't give the best though but I'm not complaining.
DD2 is way the fuck better than The padded FF7 Rebirth. Rebirth is nothing but a bunch of cell phone games. It’s like Square Enix version of Mario Party. To me it’s an insult that Rebirth was nominated for any thing. Rebirth is trash.

I am playing DD2 now and having a blast compared to elden ring

Bro, who cares? Your personal anecdotal experience is not indicative of the subject of this video. Why did you even bring it up? It's so obnoxious.

17:35 so true so true
Essentially, the pawns are slaves xD
@corbenikgaming7688 for real! It's weird!
"I bought this the other day for $40 on Steam. It was on sale, and I like it! It's been fun. The fighting especially the giant beasts are the best parts. There's a lot of running around, it crashes sometimes ... " I wouldn't give the best though but I'm not complaining.
@mikelreborn3254 Oh yeah, there is definitely a lot of fun to be had! I don't regret buying it at all. I'd love to know your thoughts when you finish!
yeah but have you played helldivers 2
@sethsmurthwaite nah, is that one of your iPad games?
DD2 is way the fuck better than The padded FF7 Rebirth. Rebirth is nothing but a bunch of cell phone games. It’s like Square Enix version of Mario Party. To me it’s an insult that Rebirth was nominated for any thing. Rebirth is trash.
Very valid opinion, I didn't play FF7 Rebirth because I was trying to get through FF7 remake and have really struggled to do so.
Finally, this channel is starting to cook🔥
It deserves to win game of the year more than elden ring deserved it two years ago, RPG is too specific, it deserves the main award.
@AlbinoMothDragon I actually want astrobot to win xD. But I agree shadow of the erdtree should definitely not be in contention for game of the year.
nah shadow of the erdtree deserves rpg of the year wayy more than dd2
