- It’s time for a couple of old friends to catch up after not seeing each other for over a decade as Johnny sits down with Jason “Jay” James from Kill The Lights. The duo reminisces on the tours Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine had together, and the legendary debauchery that usually ensued while on the road together.
Jay opens up about his departure from Bullet For My Valentine, and how it ended up leading him on a road to sobriety. He also goes in-depth about the journey that led to his return to the stage with another former BFMV member in Kill The Lights. Johnny and Jay talk about new music and touring for each of their respective bands before looking back at the careers each of them were afforded through music.
We learn what kind of nightmares rockstars have, the most epic prank that’s ever happened to Jay, how Johnny and Jay switched roles during an A7X performance, the special tattoo that both friends share, how Jay first met Trivium’s Matt Heafy (spoiler: covered in duct tape), if Jay still talks to the BFMV guys, why Johnny has a medieval drinking horn, and much more on the latest episode of Drinks With Johnny!

Glad to see Jay doing so well, met him at Download 06 & 07 and got to hang with him, such a lovely fella and funny as fuck, caught Lamb of God and Machine Head with him, he was partying hard then. I was so hungover by the sunday night 07 and had a full big bottle of JD in my backpack that i couldnt face drinking, i handed it to him before i went back to the hotel. Turns out the very next night at the Metal Hammer awards he said on live TV he got blackout drunk and made a fool of himself infront of the Iron Maiden lads and apologised through the camera to them. I always feel bad about that, felt like that was my fault for handing him a full 700cl bottle of Jack. lol
He's getting emotional when he speak about the standout memories with bullet😥
I love that youve reached out to the old Bullet boys. These guys were my childhood along side A7X. I’m bummed they left but I definitely think it’s best for both sides that they’re at where they’re at!
Glad to see Jay doing well!
Dude, been looking for info about him for many years, happy to see he is doing well, alive, and happy! Jay is part of my childhood!
So great to see Jay back playing music and looking happy and healthy!! I met Jay fairly frequently in Bullet’s early days from the Hand of Blood video shoot, Brixton Academy, album launch parties etc, and he was always the most welcoming and friendliest guy in the band. Always took the time to come and say hi and ask how I was! Always appreciated him for that! Can’t wait to see what Kill the Lights can do! I didn’t really listen to Bullet after he and Moose left. They seemed to stray from everything I loved about that band. 💜
You are great guy Jay, lot of people miss you in Bullet, thank you and keep your heads up!
5:28 I'm so proud of this big boi, that was such a sweet gesture.
What a nice guy 👍🏼 I had a chat with him in Paris in early 2008 during the listening party of Scream Aim Fire, very nice and down to earth, I am happy to see him doing well.
Avenged need to take kill the lights on tour!! Would be legendary! Good to hear jay is doing well, was stoked when he joined kill the lights with moose.
I love how this turned into a warm hearted conversation between 2 close friends catching up.
This was an absolute treasure. I'm not even keen to find out why he left bullet. I'm just happy to see Jay in such a good place. Bullet was my favourite band up until fever and in some ways still are. But Jay and Moose was the standout for me. Over the moon when I saw the KTL post saying jay had joined. Thanks for this Johnny. I know this was as much for you as for Jay's fans, but it's so nice to see him this good a place after years of being media dark. The tour stories had me roiling. Nearly pissed myself on the gaffer tape/Heafy story. Thanks again Johnny. Hope you and A7X, family, friends are well after the hellstorm of the pandemic.
i'm so happy to see that jay is back and he is ok with his own life and family
Such a good episode and so good to see Jay (and Moose) back at it again.
Hope KTL can grow as big as BFMV and A7X in the future. These guys are all such talented individuals from rich backgrounds.
Can't wait to hear this! Though i'd love to know why the current bullet lads aren't getting to explain their side of the story :)
With a band as big as bullet, I imagine there are legal limitations regarding what they can and can’t say about his departure. Say if Jay or Matt said something spicy that developed a lot of drama, that could affect record sales, ticket sales, merch sales… all of that can be quantified and linked to whatever either one of them said. That means that if one person said something that negatively impacted the other, they can sue for damages and be able to quantify it too.
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe Never though of that before. That makes sense.
It was so great so finally see and hear Jay after all those years. Thanks Johnny!:)
Awesome interview Johnny. Good to see Jason is well. I still have fond memories of the A7X, BFMV and Atreyu tour down here in Nz Years ago!
Me too. Thanx for watching
Woohoo! Jay you look awesome! so happy for you and Moose!
love the 8bit version of songs in the background, noticed it a few times, always makes me smile
Really great to see Jason James back. Some of my best shows were seeing Bullet and Avenged touring together. The Sinner album is great and looking forward to what you have in store next. Thanks Johnny
Jay looks amazing!! Can't wait to hear what you guys talk about 🖤🖤
Excited for this
Wild. It's interesting watching this from a mostly punk rock side, being a drummer for The Dickies and other bands within the old school punk camp; realizing that even larger rock/metal bands have gone through some wild shit as well. Great episode. You've got fun videos, Johnny. Thanks to you and your guests/friends /family for putting it out there.
i love both of you guys
Congrats on your sobriety! We must’ve quit around the same time. Can’t wait to check out your band!
So good to see jay back in the music industry!! Loved him in bullet, can’t wait to hear some new music with him!
Was wondering what happened to Jason. So great he's doing well.
One day when everyones old as a rock maybe we will hear some of these unheard of stories
I love when Jay say lets get back to the basic,
Great episode I'm watching from India, a fan of both the Ax7 and Bfmv..... Jason I was shocked to know that he left bfmv few years ago. Awesome James u are sober ,keep trying to stay forever ❤💙 everyone had the past but when we realized that it wasn't true to hold on the bad habits it has become a message to the listeners....tq both of you
Fellow Indian cum Bullet For My Valentine fan.
Jay's story was just fucking hilarious
Great episode !
looking forward to watch this ep, love the content
Well done Jay 🤘 glad you're back and raise a finger to those who pissed you off
I remember seeeing you guys together! Best show of my life.
You guys are fkn amazing !
I've been trying to get an update on Jay for so many years
I like the way James speaks straight about alcohol 🍸 and struggles. I love listening to metalcore immensely 15years ago till now, many friends criticize me cuz they said metal are satanic. However, I found that it was not like that, metal songs has helped me alot to cope with my depression. I'm a Christian therfore around me live only Christians who judge things always quickly. I've watched many metal musicians with good implications for us which we can cope with our personal challenges. (Don't judge the book by its cover)
I'm a Christian and I like metal. I feel nothing is wrong with it.
@@khumgangte9246 same here, rock on
@@AA1613 yeah bro🔥
Some people don’t understand. Not all metal is the same.
Jason 🤘🏽
Jay!! 😍😍
Bullet needs to get back the good old Moose & Jay lineup. Obviously there’s been bad blood but that was years ago. Maybe if they all got back together they’d put out an album as good as The Poison and Scream, Aim, Fire.
Last time I seen Jay was in Worcester MA may 1st 2013 temper temper
Me too.. same show!
He's still not speaking about what actually led to him leaving Bullet. Even when asked about it, he's talking about what happened after he left.
He clearly says it was alcohol and substance abuse but due to legal implications he cant get into details as of yet.
The band’s management may have asked him to sign an NDA regarding certain issues
You have been my idol jason .. If you are reading this
Maan! Just love u guys ❤️ no other words ❤️❤️❤️
Gotta bring moose on the show too!

Does anyone know who he gaffer taped? 😂
I have a feeling it would have been Matt
@@tehpadgeth5385 Somebody else in the comments section of this video stated it was Matt Heafy, the singer in Trivium.
where can i listen to Hit the Lights? only metallica comes up
holy fuck i’m retarded… KILL the lights
also, FUCK the BFMV guys that are forcing these guys to stay quiet. Matt Tuck and Padge are annoying to me now, definitely going for the pop star persona
@@cade3154 😂
Kill the Lights...
Duo manusia idola sya jay KTL dan jonni a7x
That's nice that he stopped drinking, cuz this sh*t might look innocent at the beginning, without you realising it swallows you whole into the abyss.
Love the show, not a fan of him but will listen and support anyway 🤟🍻
I think this is the breakdown he's talking about ruclips.net/video/RxdgpJ6Z8oM/видео.html
