    So let me see if i got this right.
    -She was taken from her father when they were young, the mother says she ran away with him, age seems to be unspecified , but the letter then goes "i didn't run he took me with him", which implies she was forced to. Either the mother is lying to make herself feel better about not wanting to see her daughter, or the protagonist was old enough to make certain choices, which drove the mother to think she ran away with him also due to the letters not being responded
    -She came to know her husband, and they both actually liked each other a lot, and he was a decent enough guy. Died in the Feris-wheel accident, and that left her scarred, she later also came to get some trauma for birthing Callum, and developed even deeper depression. She clearly hated raising him, if you remember the incident with leaving him inside the car, most likely under the sun with everything closed. She was later made to suffer shock therapy, since at the time that was a thing i guess, and was made to use medication, apparently she lost some sort of heritage dispute without being able to prove herself as being from the same family
    -She was discharged and seemed to still suffer a whole lot, but tried to shape herself up, but things just got worse and worse, and her relationship with her father was absolute shit, she projected her dissatisfaction on everyone else who seemed happier than she was, and clearly was still completely inept for raising Callum. In one of the pictures you see with her and Callum he clearly wanted to let go of her hand, and she looked extremely uncaring, almost scary. Taking him to the park where his father died, that clearly had major problems with infrastructure, and bad management, was most likely some sort of way to "get back" at him, or her trying to find an excuse to having him killed without the blame falling on her
    -The entire backstory with the haunted lands, the guy doing experiments, him taking out the joy from that place, the voice telling her that she and Callum were antithesis of what that place represented, the witch story, and the witch itself were most likely her going crazy, or she suffers from schizophrenia, trying to pin the blame of what was going on in absurd events or super natural stuff, like the story about Callum doing things that weren't like him, when it was most likely him cowering in fear from her abuse. She killed him with an ice pick, and is being suspected most likely

    • @patternaut8338
      @patternaut8338 8 лет назад +46

      Seems about right with a couple minor things wrong. However on the last part about the backstory, I think the whole place was real. The game is a spinoff of (and an actual place in) The Secret World, which is a MMORPG about the modern day world but with occult forces. The Secret World actually gives you a lot more backstory on the park and how it started. Basically, the park feeds of off joy leaving some attendees with a sad feeling, but the more time you spend there the worse it gets. Hence Chad (Steve) going crazy in the suit, people jumping from the top of the ferris wheel (likely how Don died, it says he 'fell', but an earlier document suggested people falling were actually committing suicide), and the other deaths at the park. I believe she previously killed Callum, possibly getting more depressed as she continually took him to the park, and now she has returned having some sort of mental breakdown trying to get her son back, just for the park to remind her that she can't. I'm leaving some details out, but that's the gist of what I think is happening.

    I may need to get this straight...a young mother tells the kid to stay in the car...when she was gonna get his teddy bear the kid disobeyed her and went to the park....then that story of Hansel and Gretel which ended as soon as they returned home their mother ran into the woods never to be seen again....the woodcutter claimed that it will be the three of them again....the woodcutter worked hard and recovered and (although I wouldn't be surprised if the mom saw what they done) lived happily ever after... anyway the mother discovers that things aren't what hey seem.

      DannyTcat Considering this game is a spinoff of another game called The Secret World (which I barely know anything about aside from some brief research), it seems like they’re going for a Silent Hill 2 angle, where rather than the story being about the origin of the park and the reason for why it’s the way it is (aside from small implications and expansions of the backstory), it’s more about the effects of the park on individuals while touching on taboo subject matter.

    Just a Something about the Hansel and Gretel story: it reached its peak of popularity in the United States right around the time of the Revolutionary War. Literary analysts believe that it was because the American people at that time saw themselves in the position of the children, lost in the woods with politicians trying to lead them into dangerous circumstances (and promises of candy!), while they sought to find their way to a final happy end - I'll leave the full symbolism to others, though. The same thing, incidentally, happened around World War II, except with the story The Three Little Pigs, a zeitgeist into which Disney played perfectly when they released their award-winning cartoon around that same time period.
    Oh, and a note about electroshock therapy: www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/electroconvulsive-therapy/about/pac-20393894 - I'd guess poor Lorraine got her treatment because her doctors couldn't figure out what else to do...in the days before they finally figured out how to make the procedure not horrific.

    For those of you looking at the comments to see if you should watch this video: If you are looking for a good scare and a game that doesn't shove the plot down your throat, DON'T WATCH IT. The whole game is told through the eyes of the mother and nothing scary ever happens. At no point is there tension and you always knew when the "scary" parts were going to happen, which made the game really less thrilling. They had a good story on paper, but they had no innovative ways of telling the story.

    The atmosphere was awesome. The plot was confusing and you are left with an open ending (maybe not; I couldn't read the notes). But in this case it isn't satisfying. You don't know what was real. Kind of everything appears as imagined (even the ending, in which the detective has a bottled fly on the table). It appears as a continouus illusion that you can't feel involved in. I.e. the boy couldn't enter the park because it was locked, the entrance guy/detective had to open the doors for the mother to pass.

    I find it hilarious how she takes Zolift, which is clearly a fictional replacement for Zoloft, which is an actual antidepressant that many people including myself take.
    However, i'm pretty sure that zoloft is not an anti psychotic.... so wth?

    • @suicune2001
      @suicune2001 8 лет назад +1

      Maybe the doctors thought she was merely depressed and gave her the wrong medicine.

    • @TheGlassAddiction
      @TheGlassAddiction 8 лет назад +6

      suicune2001 maybe, but honestly they put such a heavy emphasis on what brand of medicine it is that it feels like that's not really the case.
      I just think the creators didnt really do their homeowork is all. Zoloft (Sertraline) is a *small* component to anti psychotics and isn't the main active ingredient. It's suggested she was recognized as more than just having depression (a personality disorder) so just zoloft would have done jack shit lol.
      I think it was just used because it's a recognizable brand, not because it's accurate

    • @suicune2001
      @suicune2001 8 лет назад

      Strange Magic Possibly, but the date in the records was 1977. So I guess we'd have to see if people in 1977 prescribed Zoloft for that purpose, or if Zoloft was even around during that time. It could be like you said, they put it in there simply because it's recognizable.

    • @TheGlassAddiction
      @TheGlassAddiction 8 лет назад +3

      suicune2001 just did a bit of a google facts hunt and apparently sertraline wasnt even approved for medicinal use until 1991, but it WAS being developed from 1970 forward, with breakthroughs in it's study in.... 1977!
      *HOWEVER* Mental health and illness wasn't recognised as something normal people could have yet, and it was well into the 70s and 80s that people were en masse institutionalized *for life* because of things we recognize as depression, personality disorders today. As in, not only is it unlikely the character would have been allowed to walk around free *AT ALL*, but her child would likely have been taken as well.
      With that said, they mention *A LOT* of things in this game that aren't even representative to the 70's culture (looking down on a woman for having left baby in car, etc, which was never made a big deal until the late 80s 90s)
      I'm reading *wwwaaaaaay too into this* but idk, it just irks me when people don't do their research when implementing things as plot in a game

      Strange Magic Well, she did undergo electroshock therapy and they knew her depression stemmed from the death of Don. So it's not like her depression came from nowhere. I could hardly read a damn word on those reports but I thought I read something about she had responded very well to the electroshock therapy and they figured with pills and probably a little bit of outpatient counseling, she would be fine. But yeah, a lot of things were just fine in the 70's that we frown upon today. And yes, don't worry yourself about it too much. lol

    Wow there are a lot of Lovecraft references in this game, the mention of Dunwich and Innsmouth and the Cthulhu/Deep one statue. I always enjoy it when games implement Lovecraft elements in their games :D

    Does anyone know of a transcript posted somewhere, or has anyone actually been able to squint hard enough and write down and post what all those notes and accident reports say? I can barely make out any of them - the only one I was able to read so far was the one about the ice-carving incident.

    Thank you so much for making this playthrough. When I first saw the Park it looked like a really fun and interesting game. Even the Steam reviews were giving it some heavy positive feedback. Then I watched your play through of the game and yeah I think I will keep my money. And the creators really want 13.00 dollars for this!? Yeah no thanks.
    So thank you for allowing me to keep 13:00 dollars in my wallet. lol

      If the boy is ghost, then how can the man behind counter can see and react to him running in?
      Perhaps that was the whole hallucination to the protagonist, no?

    • @adorkablybrieski4774
      @adorkablybrieski4774 7 лет назад +6

      Frederick All of it was the hallucination that guy behind the counter is actually the detective.

    • @Fredcat11
      @Fredcat11 7 лет назад

      Adorkablybrieski Then if he's the detective, then why the hell did he let her going ahead in?

      Frederick I was all in her head until she went inside the park. Then it became reality.

    • @adorkablybrieski4774
      @adorkablybrieski4774 7 лет назад +1

      Frederick This is the way I see it, the park is reality while her life represented an hallucination because the park closed down years before (by the letters found by the owner). As she walked through and began to slowly admit how she really felt about Callum. And what this didn't show is the books at the end. On the back of them they were telling her to remember and screaming at her that her son had died by her hands.

    The only reason this wasn't scary for me is because everything was obviously an illusion. The visible flickering on the sides was a dead givaway for the jumpscares. Still, it made my pulse race on certain parts.

      I highly doubt P.T. was the first game to have a sequence that repeats over and over again. And P.T. is different in that things don't necessarily get more and more fucked up over a small number of repeats.

    Well it was an interesting experience, but it felt disappointing in the fact that Chad was just a ghost and didn't get to chase Lorraine around. Just remove Chad and the experience would be the same because Boogeyman is the main focus here. I bet there's no game over state.

    It was ok. They didn't look around enough. At the end, instead of looking at stuff as they went through the rooms over and over they rushed through it. The notes kept changing and i would have liked to see them deteriorate like they did. If your gonna do a walkthrough video at least be thorough and don't rush through everything. Especially the end.
