  • Today Jenny visits Trevor Jones to take a look at his amazing garden railway, the Gt Wakering, Flackwell Heath and Whitefield Railway. Trevor a modeller since receiving from Father Christmas at the age of five a Hornby OO train set containing an A4 No7, Sir Nigel Gresley and two teak coaches.
He has been a professional photographer since leaving school in 1961 working in many photographic disciplines and has witnessed the greatest period of change in photography in his life time. Much of his work in the past was with a plate camera, and now he works exclusively with digital Lumix micro four thirds format G9 and G8 cameras, doing photography and writing for Hornby Magazine.
He is not a member of a local model railway club buts firmly believes in being a member of DOGA the OO gauge association, where amongst its 800 members there is a great fund of knowledge and help on any modelling and railway topic.
He and his wife Janet are keen horticulturists and his garden is open to the public under the NGS open scheme, listed under Buckinghamshire in the open by appointments section. He cannot guarantee the railway will be running but can often run a demonstration in the protected station area of Flackwell Heath.

Thanks! That was lovely. What a fantastic lay-out and beautiful garden too! The problems and puzzles to build it and keep it working for so long is a credit to the gentleman's care for it all. What a lovely day out. Thanks for showing this gem of a garden railway. Cheers Jenny!

I think the layout he referred to in Coventry was the late Don jones ,Dons miniature new street he built Birmingham new street as it was rebuilt in the sixties in his shed rotunda tower etc it went right out into his garden and included a power station with MGR trains it had fully interlocked electronic signalling as per the prototype it was awesome ,it’s on Chris spencers RUclips channel I love this too layout and like the system he uses for his track bed ,superb Jenny you looked at home there 👍🏻😊

This is what inspired me to move to the bigger canvas of my garden, unfortunately i don’t have enough straight tracks for proper mainline but im happy with the simple loop with a one sided yard i currently have right now!

This must be the best 00 gauge garden railway ever created, the landscaping is just stunning! I was lucky enough to visit this railway six years ago, a day I will always remember. Many thanks to Jenny, Zoe and Trevor for this footage. I would love to see a driver's eye view around the complete circuit.

OH MAN! I would love a outdoor Ho Layout I've certainly have enough track for it. Unfortunately I live in the more desert regain of California and our summers are brutal. Maybe one day I'll do a small one but I should finish my indoor layout first.😂

This is amazing, there is a outdoor railroad in Bristol TN, I sat down and had a cookout, I just forgot the name of the chap that had it, he also had a drive in movie theater.

I have an O gauge garden railway and one day an express train consisting of one locomotive and eight coaches completely derailed. When I went to investigate, there was a frog lying across the live rails twitching away. I flicked him off and he hopped away. The frog had not had a good day being clobbered by a heavy train travelling at speed and electrocuted as well rgds

Is the line Analogue or Digital, If I had a garden I’d opt for the latter just so I could have my sound fitted models running around in a natural environment and giving a near perfect representation of the real thing.
The whole layout is stunning and is a year older than me, well done to the gent who built it, good to see the youngster in the background operating it while the two of you were chatting.
