Brilliant, Jenny! What we think of as a habit is a business to everyone who touches the product before we bring it home. Many of the "Why don't they" questions can be answered when you understand the restrictions of mass production -- the wizard hiding behind the curtain. Thanks for sharing, Jenny!
Great video, i really have the upmost respect for the Dapol team, they do a fantastic job and they are all lovely people too, i like how your video shows how much work they put into each product!!! 👍
That was excellent Jennie ,watching the production of items at Dapols factory was a real treat .,love watching manufacturing of any kind ,but a British company is a big bonus . Thank you .😊
Well done Jenny, wonderful to see these intricate models being built in the UK. In addition you did not talk down to the assembly workers more... highlighted the ammount of effort taken "to get it right" by all those involved. You have probly done more to promote to the British modellers the quality of this Dapol product than a very expensive advertising campaign.
An excellent video giving us regular folks an insight into how our models are made. Dapol provide us with a wide range of value products and it's nice they are made in the UK.
Hi I went to the factory about 6 years ago on the open day. had a great time made my N -GAUGE wagon that is on display at home. A great time and nice to see that more is made in the UK .
Thanks Jennifer ,that was amazing to watch models being made & in Britain at an affordable price . It makes you appreciate what goes in to making a model .Thanks Dapol .😊
Just up the road for me, in fact my nearest modelling shop too!. Great that they are probably one of only manufacturers that have production in the UK.
@@andrewgrave Yep ok, Sussex not Essex. Well, I suspect more premium kits will be made there. I actually made the original 1:24 scale Spitfire circa 1971
What a fascinating video, Jen!! It’s absolutely wonderful to hear that at least ONE British company actually produces the models in Britain rather than blinking China!!
What a fascinating video. Thanks for sharing how this all works. Brings a new appreciation for the manufacturers to allow us to enjoy our hobby (in all scales!)
Loved watching the video. Been through the assembling process myself when attending the then Dapol Collectors Club. Did five OO models myself and purchased separately the N and O gauge versions for my collection. I do miss the Club and I travelled all the way from Scotland.
Really interesting video Jenny, it was great to have a chance to see the Dapol factory. Some good video editing too on the part of the Cupboard Monkey.
Thank you for a very interesting look inside the Dapol factory. Also, for covering some of the less commonly seen areas, such as printing, and laser cutting.
Positives. : In my view the best video you have ever done. To the point, interesting and educating. Negative : The truck assembly reminded of what a really boring job factory assembly is. There is nothing more mind numbing than a boring job you have to concentrate on. I did factory assembly for 2 months as a 16 year old, it numbed my head. Again, a fantastic video that I watched from start to finish. Thank you for doing this. !!!!!
Well done Jenny, you have shown more of the manufacturing process in one film than the whole of the Hornby tv series. Also well done Dapol for 'made in Britain' (well Wales really)
@@petertaylor2502 mmm interesting maybe I'm wrong but it's the Shropshire side of the river Ceiriog which is the border. It has a LL post code but then so do a lot of places in Shropshire . Anyway rather than me be pedantic more importantly as you say well done Jenny and Dapol👍
@@philipnewman8639 Hi Philip tricky thing these borders! I live by the river Ribble and a while ago could stand with one leg in Lancashire and one leg in Yorkshire. Yes lets have more Made in Britain.
Excellent video, really informative. I feel I know a lot more about how models are produced. And it's interesting how model wagons made in the Uk, albeit some much older mouldings, are very competitively priced compared to those new models produced in China. I am very happy with the quality of Dapol wagons and will continue to buy them.
I'd never seen those processes before - and how all those models are created and decorated - really interesting. It's good to see that at least some model manufacturing actually happens in the UK!
Great video Jen, as always. Really informative, is great to see model railways being made in the UK and even better that they are made in Wales!! I’m a big fan of Dapol, I can’t call it Daaypol though! 😊
Great video, very interesting but the real skill is in the actual making of the plastic mould tools - hats off to the toolmakers everywhere - you cant beat a good mill, drill, grind, scratch, buff and polisher.
I once won a Dapol Pendolino from Rail News when the Class 390 were launched. The last Dapol model I bought was a OO Class 121/122 rails and it's pretty impressive.
Hi Jennifer, greetings from Dartmouth Nova Scotia. The Tubeofyou algorithms popped up your video on Dapol for me. So I must confess that my attraction to Dapol goes back two or three decades to when they were producing Dr Who items, I have some of the figures and the pentagon Tardis console playset. ( rebuilt last year with LED lighting and a new motor). It still makes a wonderful wheezing sound when running. I enjoyed the video to see how complex and precise the production has to be to bring a product, Train or Tardis to us. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing your future videos.
Thank you Jenny for a thorough insight as to how they are made. More interestingly is when I suggest on the Hornby website that Hornby should make some of their wagons in the UK, I get all the rubbish about it is too expensive. Dapol wagons are the cheapest ones around so that statement is obviously rubbish. Very interesting though I often wondered how the printing worked. I just bought the Dapol Saxa wagon and was surprised how good it is for the price.
such another great video but especially this time with the factory tour and how much work goes into our models also hence the prices we pay four our models well done.
Hi Jenny. A most instructive and entertaining video. One aspect that I would have wanted to see was the creation of an actual tooling - from design to production.
What a great video Jenny! UK manufacturing that is well invested in advance kit can compete and produce astounding models. You have produced a super showcase, thank you
Glad to see made in uk possible , maybe Bachman’s, Hornby should learn that it is possible to make things locally without cheap labour , costly transport and environmentally better for all . Ps jobs at home Europe and skills here rather that than sent abroad and lost . Great video
So Dapol shows us you can manufacture great models costing less than GBP 200 for a OO steam locomotive in the UK... Some might have whistling ears by now ! Second revelation : the Dapol O 16,5 mm scale : wow ! I'm interested !
Well sadly you can't sell to the EU any more. In my youth, many years ago (75) I built railways and surroundings for a school mate and we had much fun doing it, in his parents one room used for the purpose. And I still look at model trains when possible. I never heard of Dapol before.
It's not as easy as some make it out to be. So many steps to get right, then the supplier of a motor, or wheels has every step to get right as well. Can't have eyes everywhere at all times. The wagon assembly looks fun but give it til lunch on day 1 of knowing you're doing it and have to hit a target and it will really quickly not be fun, at which point you better have the knack for zoning out with the radio on while still doing the job right or have a really good relationship with your coworkers and be able to chat to them without it getting annoying each day. Takes either a lot of getting used to or a natural aptitude to do a job like this, all to be told by some kid on the internet that your works naff and you don't know what your doing or deserve the wage you get cause the price is too high...🤨
So dapol can manufacture in the UK and still retail cheaper than Bachmann/Farish. I always suspected that we were getting ripped off, this is proof. I prefer dapol to farish from a quality perspective too.
Truly fascinating. I buy Dapol whenever I can in order to support British manufacturing.
The wagons are so detailed and diverse.
